Lots of twists and turns and a dark ending. If you like books set in neighbourhoods, small towns and lots of gossip - this is the book for you!
Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC!
Wow The House Across the Street was fantastic. It was absolutely packed full of twists and turns and had lots of characters that I actually cared about and kept me engrossed.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for my ARC.
This book felt like an old, wooden roller coaster. A slow start to the top of the first hill, but then once you are off, you are sent flying every which way through endless twists, turns and bumps. I found the multiple twists at the ending surprising, but they tied together so many elements of the book that it all made sense.
Anna is hosting a party when she sees a mysterious light flashing at a house across the street. She goes to investigate and discovers a body.
To me the highlight of the book is the complexity of the characters. None seem wholly good or bad for the entirely of the book. Character motives and perspectives make sense.
Overall a fun, suspenseful read.
A gripping thriller that you will find hard to put down. It’s a tale of secrets, lies, friendship and revenge and just when I thought it was coming to an end, there was another dramatic twist. A fabulous read that will keep you hooked to the end. Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and the author for the chance to review.
🔪ARC REVIEW🔪
Thank you @netgalley , @bookouture and Jill Childs for my copy of The House Across the Street.
I was looking for a good thriller and remembered I had this on my NetGalley shelf! It was the pallet cleanser I needed for sure!! Dr. Taylor, a loved man residing in a small town with his daughter Lily and son George is suddenly murdered, and found by Lily’s best friend Anna. This isn’t the first time Anna’s family has been connected to the loss of one of Lily and George’s parents. Who could have done this? Why can’t they find the murder weapon? Does Anna and her brother Tim have something to do with it? Is Anna in danger? And what about her daughter?
So many questions, so many twists. This was a super enjoyable read, and I had not expected it to end the way it did at all!
The House Across the Street is available on all platforms as of today!!!
I was shocked at the the turns USA Today bestseller, Jill Childs, took me on as the end drew near in her latest psychological thriller!
She’s a truly gifted thriller writer, & I’ve loved everything I’ve read by her! I highly recommend adding her books to your TBR pile! Start with this one & you won’t be disappointed at the twists that keep coming at the end!
Thank you, Jill Childs, Bookouture, & Netgalley for my early copy! All opinions are my own.
A twisty domestic thriller based around two women, Anna and Lily, who grew up as neighbours and best friends, and their families.
When Anna discovers Lily’s father, Dr Taylor, murdered in his bed, the two families turn to each other for support and answers. But there are secrets and history between them and when Anna’s daughter, Cassie, tells Anna she is being watched, and Anna starts receiving threatening notes, the chilling tension really ramps up!
The twists come thick and fast and I really had no idea who the killer was, so the revelation was like a punch to the gut!
I was amazed when I realised there was just one narrator for all of the characters. Kristin Atherton did a brilliant job of differentiating between the characters, especially the three female narrators of Anna, Lily and Cassie.
4.5 ⭐️ Thanks to Netgalley, Jill Childs and Bookouture, for an ARC in return for an honest review.
After reading the description for this book I knew I would be hooked on this and my goodness I had no idea. I literally read this book in a matter of hours. The whole storyline grips you and doesn't let you go till that last page and even on that last page you will be in total shock from the twists. Honestly my heart was racing, I was absolutely terrified reading this, the suspense is unreal and I had no idea what was going to happen next.
This book has everything I look for in a psychological thriller and I can see this going straight to the top of the bestsellers charts. I will be recommending this to everyone! Oh and this author is definitely becoming one of my all time favourites.
The House Across the Street was a quick read popcorn thriller. Many secrets, lies, and deceit lie within this book. Although I predicted all of the twists in this story, I did enjoy reading. When reading a thriller, I much enjoy when the twists take me by surprise and really make me question everything! The twists in this book were very mid and predictable. I would have loved more character development from the characters to really add to the overall experience and ending of the story.
And I am still curious....what were the test results?
The House Across the Street by Jill Childs is fast paced and well written, this book had me gripped right from the start and I didn't want it to end.
It has a fast pace, relentless suspense, believable characters, and a whole bunch of shocking surprises.
The storyline was so well written I really enjoyed how all the characters were so well described.
It kept me engaged and on the edge of my seat, particularly towards the end.
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for your generosity and gifting me a copy of this amazing eARC!
Thank you Bookouture for a copy on Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
A smouldering tension filled psychological thriller with lots of suburban drama and extended family dysfunction.
The latest quick read from Jill Childs is a domestic melodramatic romp.
Anna and Lily have been best friends since childhood.
Anna lives with her daughter, Cassie and her newly returned home, brother Tim.
Lily lives with her father, Dr Taylor and her brother George, across the street.
One night, Dr Taylor is found dead, while they are all at a gathering.
But soon secrets and lies are accumulating and the truth is uncovered.
The House Across The Street drags you in from the premise, storyline, characters, setting and that final chapter.
It does build up with many scenarios for your guessing brain until the big twist and that very clever and unexpected ending.
I was kept on my toes in the last third of the book wanting answers to my many different questions and the answers gave me some chills.
This is my third read from the talented author and I look forward to my next.
Oh my word! What a twisted tale. You won't be able to put this book down. You never know what's coming next. Get this book on your list today!
My thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘The House Across The Street’ written by Jill Childs in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
While Anna is giving a party she sees a light moving in Dr Taylor’s house opposite hers in Riverside Road. She lets herself in to check there isn’t a burglar and is shocked when she comes across Dr Taylor who’s been stabbed to death. The following day she has a hand-delivered note put through her letter-box threatening the lives of herself and her ten-year-old daughter Cassie if she doesn’t keep her mouth shut.
‘The House Across The Street’ is a psychological thriller of secrets, lies and love that takes place in Riverside Road. The story is intriguing as it moves from the events of ten years ago to the present time and I was so involved with the characters that I had no idea who could have committed the crime. There’s plenty of drama and suspense and although I thought I knew where the plot was heading, even with the twists and turns not for one minute could I have foreseen what was going to happen. When I reached the conclusion there was an even bigger twist that was shocking and totally unexpected and had me wondering how on earth did that happen. This is an excellent novel that’s kept me on the edge of my seat and is one I’m happy to recommend.

Wow, I finished this novel in less than 24 hours, from the first chapter I couldn't put this one down. The novel starts with a party that leads to a violent murder in a house across the street. The author's writing is enticing, makes you believe anything, I wasn't sure who to believe from one chapter to the next, yet somehow ended up believing everyone as the clever story developed! A tale that will certainly shock you, full of mystery as secrets of the past come to light after years of hiding and lying. This novel definitely tests the strength of love and friendship, loyalty and justice, there were many unexpected twists in the story, and the ending will stay with me for a long time. Is blood truly thicker than water? Get reading to see if friendship can survive against all odds!
The House Across the Street by Jill Childs is a gripping psychological thriller that hooks you from the very first page. The story revolves around Ellie, who becomes embroiled in the mysterious events unfolding in the house across from her own. Childs masterfully weaves a tale of suspense, secrets, and unexpected twists that keep you guessing until the end. The characters are well-developed, and the atmospheric writing adds a layer of tension that makes it hard to put down. This book is a must-read for fans of thrillers and mysteries, earning every bit of its five-star rating for its compelling plot and expertly crafted narrative. Definitely a must read! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The House Across The Street was twisty and fun. It was my first Jill Childs book and I really enjoyed it. The book starts off at a fast pace and maintains the pace throughout.
The saying goes secrets have a way of catching up with you and this holds true for Anna and Lily. Best friends from childhood, each has returned to the homes they grew up in which are across the street from each other. When a casualty occurs they lean on each other to come to grips with the tragedy. They both are carrying secrets that could be harmful to the other. Though they try to guard their secrets they eventually surface and the hurt is unavoidable.
This story is told from multiple POVs and is very fast paced. The ending is something I didn't see coming and caught me off guard. I highly recommend this to anyone who loves a twisty domestic thriller.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for an ARC of this book
Who killed DR. Taylor? That's the question Anna is determined to answer for her friend Lili who has been like a sister to her. Unfortunately, someone doesn't want her to get the answer and goes so far as to threaten Anna's daughter Cassie. And btw, who is Cassie's dad? This is told in multiple POVs and time frames and while it isn't as twisty as I'd hoped, there are some good surprises. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. A good read.
3.5 Stars! Overall, I enjoyed this book! I felt it was a slow start and read a lot like a movie script. There were multiple POVs and a lot of time jumping. But 40% of the way in and I was definitely more interested! The flashback scene in chapter 23 is when things pick up. I felt that the story lacked any real hints. I find the best part of reading a thriller is trying to guess the ending! While I enjoyed reading this book I wish it was more suspenseful. The author did surprise me with twists I didn’t see coming and for me that’s always a good thriller!
This is your classic domestic thriller, which is great for me because I love domestic thrillers, but unfortunately it was missing that WOW factor. There were several things I predicted ahead of time, but still a few fun twists that I didn't. I had fun reading it, it just wasn't anything super exceptional. 3.5 stars rounded up to 4!
The book grips you right from the start. The beginning is a description of a lovely idyllic life on Riverside street where all neighbours know and look after each other.
Two families are especially close, main characters growing up together. As book unfolds, many secrets and life tragedies that met those families are revealed. It seems incredible they have moved past some of those.
The book is fast paced and it keeps you guessing.
However there were occasions you are cross with the main character, holding on to some secrets.
Without giving anything away, I would give the book higher rating if the last page was removed, it just made me frustrated and annoyed ha-ha.
