This story starts with Emma finding her husband face down in the lake of their home, this would be horrible for most though for Emma it's a relief. She and her husband couldn't stand each other and Emma was done but was she done enough to murder him?
So many things happen within this story that make it so good you just can't stop reading it and you spend the whole time second guessing of who murdered the husband or was he even murdered but rather died of natural causes? I love when a book has me still guessing after reading so many mysteries and thrillers that can be hard to do.
Thank you to the author and netgalley for providing me with an e-arc!
This book had me gripped and hooked with so many turns. Some I saw coming but the ending *brain exploded*
If you love a good mystery give this a chance!
Samantha! You clever, wicked woman. This story was completely addicting and full of 'what the f'-moments. There were several moments where I sat with my mouth hanging open. I read this book in two sittings and was a literal zombie the next day, but I have zero regrets. It was worth it!

A fab read.
When you return from a work trip to find your husband dead in the pond, it’s best not to call him a liar and a cheat in front of the cops. Especially when you’ve spent the last few years telling anyone who’ll listen that you sometimes fantasise about killing him. It makes you look kind of, well, guilty. Now I’m suspect number one for Nathaniel’s murder and the police are snooping around our perfect home. And the house is perfect because I designed it, down to the last marbled detail. You could say I designed our marriage, too. As soon as I saw Nathaniel – so handsome, successful, a surgeon – I knew I wanted him. Sadly our marriage wasn’t quite as perfect as our house. But whose is? The cops want to talk to our daughters, our friends, even our staff. There’s the housekeeper, the cook, the pool cleaner, the dog walker. But like me they were all out of town when he died. They won’t have anything to say about what happened. Certainly nothing that will suggest I had something to do with it…
Thanks to NetGalley and Storm Publishing for giving me an advance copy.
For a new to me author, it was an okay thriller! Very fast paced! Pretty easy to predict though. Hated all the characters (which is not a bad thing) I just didn’t feel that characters were developed enough. Wish I had liked it more.
I am new to Samantha Verant books and was drawn to the book by the blurb and it didn’t disappoint, I was hooked and you will be too. This was a clever and twisty read that I couldn’t read fast enough. I loved the dual POVs and the fact we are slowly given jigsaw pieces of the truth and the characters motives. If you love a psychological thriller with twists and turns that will keep you guessing then this is perfect.
Fast paced! Pretty easy to predict though. Many pretty despicable characters. Didn’t feel that characters were developed enough. Wish I had liked it more!
This was a pretty good thriller from a new to me author. The plot was a little predictable just because I read ALOT of thriller books, but it kept my attention. I enjoyed the writing style and will definitely look into more books by this author and hope to find one that shocks me :)
The Lucky Widow, eeeeeek what a title.
Makes you want to know more though, huh?
Same, same, the FOMO was almost instant so, I hit the big ole request button and sat back to pray.
WORTH IT
Samantha Verant, is an author to keep an eye on, The Lucky Widow is equal parts thrilling as it is suspenseful.
This book right here is a must read!

Wishing your husband dead isn't a crime…
My husband was the man of my dreams. Drop-dead gorgeous, filthy rich and a respected surgeon. When we first met, I would have done anything to call him mine. Now I’d do anything to get rid of him.
Our beautiful home might make the cover of magazines but look past the shining glass and glossy marble and you’ll see a gilded prison. From the start, Nathaniel has lied – about the man he truly is, his love for me, and the terrible things he’s capable of doing in secret.
He might be used to pulling the strings, but I won’t let him destroy lives any longer. I’ll free myself and I’ll protect our children. Whatever it takes…
Emma has had it with her lying, cheating husband and is ready for divorce. She knows it’s going to be an uphill battle - her husband is a respected doctor and billionaire. On more than one occasion, Emma wishes him dead, just to make things easier. It’s all wishful thinking until he ends up floating in a pond, dead, and Emma’s death fantasies and open loathing of her husband come back to haunt her.
This was a fantastic, fast-paced mystery/psychological thriller with loads of twists and turns. I absolutely loved it!
Thanks so much for the opportunity to read in advance!
Thank you Netgalley, Storm Publishing and Samantha Vérant
The Lucky Widow is a great domestic psychological thriller and gets straight into it with. dead body! Nathaniel's body to be precise, floating in the swimming pool. His wife, is a suspect, in fact , everyone is because Nathaniel ( Nat for short ) wasn't a suckable person the those who knew him.
I devoured this book within 2 sittings. It's such a great medium paced thriller with some great tropes, a controlling Husband, a scorned Wife, who is trapped by a prenup. A stubborn DSI, who in her bones, feels like there is something a miss but can't put her finger on it. Plenty of drama, well fleshed out likeable (and a few unlikable ) characters and it all comes together at the end. I loved how Samantha took us through the final twist in the end.
I also listened to the audiobook which is narrated by Laurel Lefkow. This brought the book right out with her voice, which kept me intrigued and captivated while I was listening ( rather than reading) Her voice suited the pacing of this book with the right emphasis on wording.
4.25 stars for Storygraph. 4 stars on amazon, Netgalley and Goodreads
love it when the story starts with a dead body!
This book cleverly intertwines the less-than-sad widows attitude towards her dead husband with his heinous lifestyle, all of which is gradually unfolded and explained without every becoming bogged down in detail.
Impossible to put down until the mystery is resolved!
Another very good book, very gripping and anxiety induced by the author. Hope there will be more books like this one. It was really impossible to put the book down.
The Lucky Widow is a great psychological thriller!
I really enjoyed this book it was so hard to put down. As the title says a woman's husband dies and the twists begin lol... Who done it? Why is she under investigation? Why doesn't she seem more upset about his death? What did she say when she called Nine-1-one ? Guess you better read to get the answers!
I got distracted reading the book. The plot is well structured and deals with one of the most important themes, always present in humanity's history: the enslavement of human beings. But I have mixed feelings about the ending of the story. You'll have to read the book to find out!
4.5 rounded down!
I devoured this in a long weekend, finding myself unable to put it down even on the train. The beginning sets you up instantly, a dead husband and a wife who despises him. This was a wild read from start to finish, leaving no time to guess the outcome. Whilst I was a teensy bit disappointed in the ending, I really couldn't rate it lower than 4.5 as the entire book was so well written, the details were fantastic and I loved the back and forth chapters between Emma and Rossi. I do wish they had more interactions towards the end, but loved any chapters they spoke to each other. Overall a fantastic read and I'll be keeping an eye out for more from Samantha Vérant in the future
A lot of drama in this book and I really enjoyed it! It kept shocking me and didn’t expect any of the twists
Although the story has a lot of clichés they combine well together and make an enjoyable reading. A stubborn detective, an above all suspicions wife and family whose father and husband turned up dead, will lead to an even more extensive number of crimes and death. Good entertainment!
I thank the author, her publisher, and NetGalley for this ARC.
Thanks to #NetGalley and #StormPublishing for the book #TheLuckyWidow by #SamanthaVerant. I absolutely loved this book! Emma comes home from a trip to Paris to find her husband dead in their Koi pond. She has wished this day for years. But now the police are looking at her. Is this the perfect murder? What will the police uncover. So much praise for this book!

The Lucky Wide Is a fast paced domestic thriller told in "many" point of views. I must warn you, it has a lot of drama, it involve human sex trafficking, drugs, abuse, lots of upsetting things. Once you start reading you are hooked and will not want to stop until the last page!
