OUR INFINITE FATES

⭐️⭐️💫

Ugh, I hate when I have such mixed feelings about a book.

Things I liked:
•the tie between fantasy and historical fiction
•the message that love and hope can surmount pain and suffering
•beautiful poetry
•there were enough cliffhangers to keep me interested in the mystery til the end

Things I disliked:
•there was a lot of repetition
•things started to drag on in the last half
•I never felt connected to the love story as the flashback chapters didn’t necessarily contribute to the back story to show why the MCs loved each other. They were more just showing that they lived in a different time period and eventually found each other in the new life.

Honestly, I probably would have stopped reading if it hadn’t been an ARC. It was missing that unputdownable feeling I love in a book.

I love you, I have loved you, and I will love you.
From the description I was so excited for this book as I loved The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue - safe to say this book was amazing. I thought the writing a pacing of the story worked really well and I just loved the characters so so much.
I like pretty books, but don’t typically collect multiple copies… however this is one that I might need infinite copies of.
Thank you NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for providing me an electronic advance copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

4.5/5 rounded up to 5. I loved this beautifully written love story! I enjoyed the descriptive imagery the author used to showcase each lifetime between these fated characters. There was so much love and depth between both main characters that evolved throughout the story. I do wish we knew the ‘twist’ a little earlier so there was more action before it wrapped up at the end. Overall, I could not put this book down and would highly recommend it to those who love love & some magical realism!

‘Maybe that’s all love is, in the end. An endless tempting of fate.’

Thank you to St. Martin’s Press via NetGalley for the advanced copy.

ARC Review

Our Infinite Fates by Laura Steven is an engaging and complex fantasy novel that takes readers on an exciting journey through a world of twists and turns. The world-building and character development are impressive, and Steven’s prose is vivid and immersive, making it easy to get lost in the story.

However, one issue I had was with the back-and-forth between characters and the constant introduction of new names. At times, it felt a little confusing to keep track of who was who, especially with characters often switching identities or using different names. While this was likely a deliberate choice to keep readers on their toes, it did make the flow of the story a bit harder to follow in certain sections.

Overall, Our Infinite Fates is an excellent read for fantasy fans, but be prepared to pay close attention to the characters and their shifting roles throughout the book. Despite the occasional confusion, the plot and world-building are well worth the effort!

This was beautifully written. Such an engaging haunting read.

Our Infinite Fates is a love story and tragedy through time, following Evelyn and Arden. Arden finds her in every life and they end up killing each other before their eighteenth birthday every single time. The main questions for Evelyn are why are they stuck in this endless cycle and how do they break free.

The writing was beautiful and immersive, I was immediately drawn into the story. I felt the love, the anxiety, the angst, and the frustration of these two characters. I loved reading about their past lives and I wish we got to spend even more time with them in those lives.

I initially thought this was going to be a 5⭐️ read but the ending didn’t quite work for me. When everything is revealed, it feels a bit rushed and the explanation wasn’t quite satisfying for me.

Still, this was a stunning book that explores love, loss, and life with gorgeous prose, vivid descriptions, and an achingly beautiful love story.

4.5⭐️

Thank you for the ARC provided via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Unfortunately I couldn't get into this title. Cover is beautiful Not sure if it's the writing style, or the story itself but it just wasn't engaging enough for me to get pulled in. I'm sure there are many readers who would enjoy this novel, but it just wasn't my cup of tea. I also just finished a book that felt somewhat similar so again, it's a personal issue that kept me from fully engaging in this book. Thank you again for the opportunity to gain insight into this writer's work!

In Our Infinite Fates, Evelyn and Arden are destined to find each other and fall in love in every life. Evelyn remembers each of these past lives - as well as the fact that they always end up killing each other on her 18th birthday. Reincarnated as Branwen Blythe in 2022, Evelyn is determined to survive. Her sister’s life depends on a bone marrow transplant scheduled just days after Evelyn’s 18th birthday.

We are transported to Evelyn and Arden’s past lives, from the frontlines of WWI France to the Ottoman Empire to the Song Dynasty in 1042 China, unraveling the mystery of their unbreakable bond. The flashbacks to past lives develop their relationship, while the present day timeline drives the suspense as Evelyn tries to uncover why Arden wants her dead. Laura Steven’s writing was gorgeous and read like poetry at times. I was so immersed in this story that I didn’t see the reveal coming and I found myself never wanting this story to end!

“I want you to know that wherever we are next, my heart will be with you. It might not know it’s with you, but hearts have their ways. Every atrium, every ventricle, every vein and artery will beat for you. Even if my mind has lost you. Because you are in the very fabric of me, all right? You are me, and I am you. And our love is stronger than anything.” ⋆₊˚⊹ ࿔⋆

Thank you so much NetGalley, St. Martins Press, and Wednesday Books for an arc in exchange for an honest review!

I’m torn on my rating, but I think it’s landing at 3.5 stars for me. I truly think people will love this story! It’s unique with an interesting plot, characters are diverse and complex, there are twists I wasn’t expecting, and the romance is full of yearning. Our main characters fall in love with each other in every lifetime yet are destined to kill each other too.

I loved how we get flashbacks of moments from various timelines to see our main characters live their lives as the people they’re reincarnated because they are each so different with different personalities, lives, and historical events and experiences. I think it’s a perfect way to round out the story but something about this book towards the end started to fall off. I’m not sure if it’s how the events played out, or if I feel we didn’t get enough time in other lives to truly see the magnitude of their relationship and romance.

The writing was really beautiful at times and the premise was so interesting, but for me personally, I don’t think I’ll see myself think about this one much, especially since I kind of stopped gravitating towards picking it up, but I do think there are people who will really enjoy it!

I am absolutely obsessed with this book. It was so happy, sad, beautiful, tragic and just overall so romantic 😭 I loved the gender fluidity and how their love didn’t discriminate based on what bodies they were reincarnated into, it made it all the more beautiful 🥹 I feel like the last chapter was a perfect wrap up to Evelyn and Arden’s story and I will be screaming my recommendation to read this book from the rooftops now.❤️ Oh to be loved through the centuries and always have that invisible string leading you right to your soulmate🥹

This is the book that you wish you could read for the first time over and over again. It’s hard to get me to cry for a story but when I do that tells me the author did an excellent job in character development and painting the perfect picture to reach my heart.
Sitting here crying after the last page just feeling so many different emotions.
This was beautifully written, just mesmerizing how the sentences flow to create such a vivid narrative.
The main characters Evelyn & Arden met in every lifetime and in every lifetime they kill each other.
Evelyn doesn't know why Arden keeps hunting her down so thats where the mystery comes in.
Their love is already established when the author introduces the MC to the reader however the chapters go back in time to their previous lives giving us their backstory and build the picture of who they are and how they fell in love over a thousand years.

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC of Of Infinite Fates by Laura Steven. This book has beautifully written characters, storylines, and dialogue told through years. This novel was truly a unique experience and I enjoyed every minute of it! I fell in love with the characters from the few pages and couldn’t wait to see what happened with the two protagonists.

What I liked best about this book was the premise. I'm so into the idea of soulmate lovers fated to reincarnate over and over again but kill each other in every life. Loved the premise. Thus, I was very intrigued and found the book easy to read and hard to put down as I wanted to know both what would happen in the primary timeline, which was the most compelling, as well as wanting to know the reveal of the reason for their fate. In the primary timeline, Evelyn is trying to live longer than she usually makes it in order to donate bone marrow to her sister for cancer treatment. We're also shown a deeper connection with her sister and mother than any of the other family connections in past lives we're shown. I found that life/timeline most compelling. I was concerned throughout the book, though, that the reveal/ending wouldn't sufficiently pay off, since a lot of the book's driving force seemed motivated to me by the question of what was going on. Indeed, the ending didn't quite work for me. It was intriguing but it was heavy on the exposition and contained a fair bit of deus ex machina. It was also not fully satisfying in certain ways. So in short I enjoyed this book and I'd still recommend it if the premise sounds highly intriguing and exciting to you, but it had its downsides as well.

Unfortunately, this book wasn’t for me. I’m happy for those who enjoyed it, but I can’t see myself recommending it to anyone I know, nor do I have any desire to reread it.

The chapters about their past lives were entertaining enough, I suppose, but the overall plot didn’t match my expectations. Even the last 15% couldn’t turn things around for me. I almost DNF’d early on due to the writing style, but since I struggle with DNFing, I pushed through. It is what it is.

Now *this* is the blend of fantasy and romance I’ve been looking for! Our Infinite Fates completely sucked me in—I read most of it in a single sitting.

The premise was incredible: think the storytelling timeline of People We Meet on Vacation, but for the lovers of Addie LaRue and Romeo & Juliet. I loved that there was a mystery aspect to the whole thing—it absolutely had me hooked, and I really liked the love story between the two main characters.

Thank you to St. Martin’s Press and Netgalley for the ARC!

Tropes:
Slow burn

We follow the present and historical events between Arden and Evelyn. It switches back and forth and we get glimpse and moments of them throughout each lifetime. A part of me wishes to get more scenes or development but you go into the book knowing they are soulmates.

I wished I could rate it higher but I was bored 75% of the time and had to force myself to finish. The ending was rushed and it felt jumbled together

4.25 stars!! This beautifully written story had everything: a journey through the literal ages of time, a pair that is both enemies AND lovers, evocative poems, nuanced words from other languages that don’t fully translate, and an overwhelming overflowing outpouring of love of life!

This book truly is the perfect mashup of Addie LaRue and This is How You Lose the Time War, and the fact this came out of Laura’s head from a Taylor Swift lyric let’s you know just how gorgeous the writing is going to be!!

I absolutely ADORED the journey of Evelyn and Arden across the ages, with a baseline story of present day and then just glimpses into the past lives that brought them together only to be continuously broken apart. I’m a huge geography, cultural history, and general history nerd so these aspects of the stories were so incredible- I felt like I was traveling to all these places with our eternal beings!!! And Evelyn and Arden, whew!!! They made me laugh, cry, shout at them for being so silly, and reflect on my own life. I’m absolutely going to be looking out for those small joys!

Thanks so much to Laura Steven and NetGalley for a chance to read this in exchange for an honest review!

Thank you NetGalley and St. Martins Press for the e-ARC of Laura Stevens upcoming novel “Our Infinite Fates”.
I have to give this book 5 stars! I honestly didn’t know what to expect going into it, but loved Arden and Evelyn’s story. It felt like a perfect mix of romance and fantasy with a dash of historical fiction. As someone who enjoys studying history, I thought the various lives of Evelyn and Arden all over the world in different time periods and during historical events added a unique element. Personally I loved the story of them in present day Wales and the way it changed the trajectory of their “curse”.
Throughout much of the book I couldn’t help but think how much the story linked with Taylor Swifts song “Invisible String” in a twisted fates type of way.
I highly recommend this book, especially for more YA readers.

2.5 stars

I am really sad I didn't love this one like I thought I would. Two soulmates forced to kill each-other in every life time, sounds tragically romantic and up my alley.

I think this would have benefited from giving more information at the beginning of the book instead of the very end. It would have given the characters more depth and helped me feel and believe the love they have for each other. Possibly help it feel more tragic as well.

The poetry in it was very beautiful and I did really enjoy those parts of the book.

I absolutely adored this book and I can’t wait to recommend it to others and discuss it! It was addicting from the first page. The back and forth between the past and present was perfectly set up and the writing was beautiful. This was extremely compelling and I can’t wait to read more of these author’s books!

3.75 ⭐️ Thank you NetGalley for the ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. The beginning and end of this book were gripping, but the middle left something to be desired for me. I was interested in the present day timeline, but the constant time jumping to past reincarnated lives that didn’t seem to add much to the story became arduous. There were tie ins at the end, but I’m not sure the pay off made up for how slow the middle was. I do think it was beautifully written, and I really enjoyed the way it wrapped everything up. I would still recommend to others but it wasn’t a home run for me.
