I love stories like this, and while this wasn’t my favorite, I did enjoy it. The book is a little slow and the back and forth between chapters was sometimes choppy. I wish we would’ve spent more time seeing the characters’ backstories and connecting to their history to feel the love connection develop more overall. However, this story was emotional and beautiful and so moving. You really can connect with everything about this and it will leave you breathless as you try to work out how to feel. After finishing this, I had to take a beat to process all the emotions this book conveys. I think a lot of people will really like this book.

I cannot say enough good things about this book. I was wanting to pick something up that just absolutely sucked me in and from the first chapter I was immediately hooked. Not only is the writing utterly gorgeous, the premise is incredibly unique. I've never read anything quite like this book before.

Evelyn and Arden whose souls are intricately woven together due to a curse. They find each other in every life time only to kill one another by their 18th birthday. Each death results in a reincarnation to a different life where the cycle repeats.

The book is written in both present time and the past detailing the lives they've lived together. I loved the flash back elements in this book. It was so intriguing learning about their past lives.

Truly it's been so long that I've been so invested and captivated by a story that I've stayed up late reading. Thank you Wednesday books for an arc of Our Infinite Fates.

This book was written beautifully. There was a lot of softness woven into a book that revolves around death. I loved the flashbacks where we learned about each life they lived together. I actually think it would have been nice to spend a little more time in these past lives showing how they fell in love over time. There was quite a bit of diversity in their lifetimes together and I really enjoyed that aspect. The ending was a surprise to me. Not sure I exactly loved the way it went but it was nice to have a twist I wasn’t expecting!

Did the book devastate me the same way Addie LaRue did? 1,000,000% YES! This story is so beautifully written and I often wondered what it was like to be as smart as the author; to know so much about other cultures and their history while also being a poet. This book was as intricately woven as the tapestry Arden is described as. Our Infinite Fates is one of those can't-put-this-down-one-more-chapter-forgot-I-was-reading books.

Evelyn & Arden keep living life after life, they are drawn to each other in every single one, and before they turn 18, they kill each other. Evelyn is desperate to live past 18 this time, though, because she needs time to help save her ailing sister.
Interspersed among the present day chapters are past lives going further and further back - some beautiful, all tragic.
One might think it would be incredibly frustrating to see them die over and over again without knowing the WHY, but it didn’t bother me because I had faith it would all make sense in the end.
The entire book is written with the grace of poetry, and it’s utterly gripping.
I have read a handful of books which have stuck with me more than all other books. I think about them a lot, long after I’ve finished reading them, and I recommend them to people over and over. Even though I only just finished this one, I already know it is one of those books for me.

Wow. I don’t even know what to say. This was so tragically beautiful. It had definite Addie LaRue vibes. The love story was heartbreaking. We get to see glimpses of the characters past and present lives. We get to see how they lived, loved, and died. No matter what happened, they always found their way back to each other. They chose to love each other despite knowing they had to die at 18. The ending was just beautiful.

The poetry, the lyrical and sensational prose, the way it wraps around you like the softest blanket—it’s a breathtakingly beautiful tale of endless love and reincarnation. This book doesn’t just tell a story; it takes you on a journey through time and space, redefining the very essence of soulmates, making you cry, filling your heart with joy, and shocking you with its mind-blowing twists. And let’s not forget the revelation—the reason why these two connected souls are doomed to kill each other to be reborn! That twist made me scream—it pulled the rug right out from under me. Second of all, THIS BOOK OH MY GOD. My brain chemistry has been irrevocably changed. I am not the same person I was when I started this book. I need it to release immediately so that I can talk about it with other people because WOW.

Our Infinite Fates follows two souls that haunt each other in every life. They are in love, but one has to kill the other. The romance aspect is simply insane to me. I don't think two characters have ever loved each other more than these two. I will forever remain single because nothing in real life can compare to this. Their love practically jumps off the page and smothers you; it's that vivid.

Everything else is just as perfect. I love the writing, and the characters are all so fantastic. Even though the personalities of the souls remain throughout their lives, each iteration feels brand new while keeping that familiar quality. That part alone is impressive. The side characters are just as developed as our main characters. The settings change with each life, and it is obvious the author has done immense research. With every location swap I felt as though I was right alongside the characters.

In short, this book is absolutely perfect, and I will accept no criticism.

I wanted to like this more than I did. The concept is unique, and I understand the comparison to The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue; however, this doesn't land for me the same way that Addie did.

What didn't I like?
The book seems caught somewhere between a YA romance and a mystery. The mystery element asks why the characters love each other and why they are forced to kill each other in multiple lives. This concept has the potential for success; however, the mystery is conveyed through the characters' various timelines, which never delve deeply into their lives. As a result, the reader struggles to understand the emotional connection between the two main characters. I did not see the twist coming, but it didn't fit with the rest of the book.

What did I like?
I appreciated the diversity of the character's past lives and enjoyed the writing style in some places.

Who is this for?
I would not necessarily recommend this for fans of Addie LaRue, as its storytelling is much more YA.

This is one of the most satisfying yet heart wrenching love stories I've read in one sit down. The tension and angst slowly play out in the story between the 2 main characters. It is written in the POV of Evelyn and I absolutely love that this story transform the love story to multiple ways of love. I absolutely could not put it down and if you want an emotional dive with characters this book is it. It has great pacing keeps you intrigued with the mystery and the flashbacks of the past life. And story line or why this all is happening to the 2 of them amazing. I feel like this story will be on my mind for a while. Absolutely amazing.

There are no words to describe my love for this book. My love for this book is akin to the love Evelyn and Arden feel for each other. I am someone who only reads dark romance and has never really gotten into the fantasy genre, but this... I will be thinking about this book for a long time. I could not put it down once I picked it up.
There was so much to love about this book! The non-linear timeline was such a great way to tell their story! Having their current story be told while we also slowly work towards the origins of them. I am rarely ever surprised by the plot twists books have, so many are so easily guessed because of the clues they so blatantly lay out, but this one was one I could not have suspected.
Laura did an incredible job with this and I so look forward to reading more from her.

2.25⭐️ I was very excited about this release because the premise sounded so interesting and unlike anything I’d read before.

Unfortunately, it ended not being for me. I just couldn’t connect with the characters. I didn’t understand why they loved each other - it was very one dimentional. I just wanted to feel more from them and I didn’t.

It also had a past/present timeline which I typically enjoy, but found myself being bored and skimming chapters that took place in the past.

As for the twist?! I did not expect it at all! But I’m not sure it made much sense either…

For me, I like to see the love building and growing and the yearning between characters. I got none of that - zero emotional connection.

I think some people may enjoy this book. Do not let my review deter you.

This book is labled as YA, but it definitely leans toward New Adult.

This may have been more of right book, wrong time for me, but I thought this was just okay. I absolutely love Addie LaRue and seeing this comped to that had my expectations sky high. I think if I went in without seeing that I may have been happier along for the ride. I found my mind wandering a lot while reading this and just didn’t care much about the couple.

This is such a beautiful story of a love that defies all timelines. Arden and Evelyn meet up in every timeline and in every timeline they kill one another. Arden knows why this keeps happening, but Evelyn does not. The story follows along many timelines until Evelyn finally understands the why. There are twists and turns, so be ready. This story is one of a kind and it is one that will stick with me forever.

This gives similar vibes to The Invisible Life of Addie Larue and The Unmaking of June Farrow. If you loved those books, you will love this one!

This story is so breathtakingly beautiful and I found myself balling quite a few times when reading. I love the two main characters and their different stories throughout. It really has you questioning the meaning of life and the meaning of love and everything inbetween.

Thoughts
This book is beautifully written, and I absolutely loved the story! I’m so happy that this was my first book from Laura Steven, it was an incredible introduction to her writing.

Arden and Evelyn’s relationship felt like the perfect portrayal of soulmates, as if someone had found the most beautiful way to express what it truly means to be bound to another person across time. The line, “I love you, and I have loved you, and I will love you,” hit me so hard, and I adored that they said it to each other. Their love story unfolding through different timelines was captivating, though I wish there had been more exploration of each historical period to deepen my understanding of their connection.

Overall, this was a fantastic book and an absolute must-read!

Ok...now that a couple days have past, and I've collected myself (sort of)... this book is absolutely beautiful, and I will never be the same again.

Our Infinite Fates is a one-of-a-kind novel and so unbelievably captivating right from the very first sentence. Steven's writing is poetic and brimming with romance and nostalgia. She will leave you in a constant state of awe.

Evelyn and Arden. Their love is unlike any I've ever read before. Soulmates doesn't even feel like a strong enough word. An epic, sweeping love story that transcends time, centuries, and gender.

Being a teenager is hard enough - being the only one who can donate bone marrow to a dying sister is even rougher. And having to do it before you turn 18 and your soulmate kills you? The hardest of all.

Our Infinite Fates is a book with a lot of complicated thoughts about love, about the core of who we are. My favourite thing about the book is that, at times, the ideas are conflicting and messy. The two main characters have chosen to live with their series of lives very differently: Evelyn has truly loving and supportive relationships with their mother and sister (the scenes together just buzz with warmth, and were some of my favourite in the whole book), while Arden has secluded himself with his art. What is the core of us? Is it just our relationships, is it the art we make or the effects of the work we do in the world? The characters are musing it out along with us - and with far more grace than I had at 17.

The book also does a wonderful job of walking the line of portraying why these two are drawn together, over and over, even knowing that they will die together: there is something unique about knowing someone will always find you, always love you and never leave you alone. Yet it is also clear that Evelyn is resentful that they will always have to be waiting for an attack. Our Infinite Fates doesn't shy away from the duality of the relationship. Their relationship really reflects their broader relationship with the world - through the glimpses of their past lives, it's clear that people can be kind and selfless, but they can also be cruel and cause so much pain (their lives in an 1800s asylum are particularly brutal). I will say that when we get answers as to why Arden is killing Evelyn, it doesn't feel as weighty as the questions themselves did. But answers never do.

If I've made this book sound heavy, it absolutely is. But it's also incredibly beautiful, and thoughtful, and I am so glad that I read it. And it ends, as all books should, in one of my favourite bookshops. I loved visiting it with these character and I think you will too.
