This was stinking adorable. I kept picturing Miranda Priestly from Devil Wears Prada. Excellent on audio!
This story was the cutest story ever!! Georgina and Kelsey make an odd pair, and it was so fun to join them along their journey of personal growth, self-discovery, and exploring opportunities. These characters were very real and relatable, which made them easy to like and dislike at the same time. Huge thank you to Courtney Walsh, NetGalley and Harper Collins Christian Publishing.
Wonderful and fun story of generational love stories one of which is a second chance love. I loved the audio version and am sure it’s wonderful to read with eyes too. Great summer read!
When I started this book, I didn't know if I was going to like it, but it exceeded my expectations. I listened to it and having two narrators for the older woman and younger woman was a great move. It was so sweet that you have to suspend your disbelief a bit, but sometimes that's what you need in a novel.
I listened to this audiobook on my work commute and it was surprisingly fitting. The narration is good. There are two different voices within the audio who represent Kelsey and Georgina, who are the two main female characters of the book. I like the fact that they were two different voices representing the two women since Kelsey is the younger female main character and Georgina is the older main character. The audio was good and held my attention the entire time. I think this book will hit home to women who are highly engaged in their careers - at least it did for me.
Synopsis
Kelsey a young female editor was hit by a car while she was walking on the sidewalk. This near death experience made her take a second look at her life and her life choices. This turns into her taking a three week vacation and having a summer of yes. She convinces her hospital roommate, who is a well known business woman; who is also going through a life crisis to join her, and together they embark on a summer of yes. This book is a great summer read. The dynamic between Kelsey and Georgina was enjoyable to listen to. I don’t get to see two female duos like this represented often. It was a nice surprise. I enjoyed Georgina’s older woman sass and that Kelsey did not take it personally. It made the book more likable. There’s a little bit of romance, but no spice. Very PG. I recommend this as a good audiobook.
An accident landed workaholic Kelsey in the hospital and into a room next to Georgina. This book is about second chances, in life, and romance. I felt that it flowed very well and I was not disappointed. I enjoyed the character development and the little surprises along the way as well as the challenges. I was given an audio ARC on NetGalley. I hope that everyone who read it enjoys it as much as I did I!
thank you for providing me with an ALC of this book, unfortunately i dont think this one is a good fit for me. one of the main characters kelsey just has one of those personalities o dont think i want to read a whole book on.
Kelsey is a junior editor who has put her dream of being a writer on back burner. Georgina is a wildly successful business woman who is facing a dire health diagnosis and has painful regrets of some of her past decisions.
After a miraculous death-defying experience, Kelsey ends up sharing her hospital room with the famous Georgina. Kelsey realizes after her accident that she needs to waste no more time and reach for a more fulfilling life and embrace a summer of “Yes”. After some finagling she gets Georgina, to join her in a Yes adventure. They begin small with local NYC sightseeing but soon advance a road trip on a road trip that has them visiting a coastal town in Georgia. There Georgia reconnects with her family with Kelsey falling head over heels with Georgia’s son
This sweet novel encourages the reader to go forth in life with love, compassion and say yes to things that makes l the most of life! Like the other books I’ve read by the author I really enjoyed the characters ( especially when they are older) I also thought narration was well done.
I want to thank Net Galley and HarperCollins Christian Publishing | Thomas Nelson Fiction and the author herself for a chance to listen/read an ARC version of this novel.
I adored the characters and settings in this book, so deeply. Courtney Walsh does an excellent job balancing dual perspective writing, and the dialogue is rich, realistic, smart, and moves the story along. For anyone who is reflective and looking for inspiration to say “yes” a bit more, pushing past their comfort zone, pick this one up for sure. Especially enjoyable as an audiobook companion read, as the narrative voice for Georgina in particular is just perfect. Well done!
Thank you to NetGalley, HarperCollins, and Courtney Walsh for access to this fantastic audiobook that was already burning a hole on my TBR list!
The Summer of Yes is summer pool read rom com fun at its finest. It was predictable, and fun.
This makes a great palate cleansing read.
Just the most delightful book about saying yes to the opportunities that scare you, that push you out of your comfort zone, that change you into a better person. I adored Georgina and Kelsey's relationship as they grew and changed and tried to be better, happier people. And the double dash of romance was just the cherry on top!
Thank you to Netgalley for my complimentary ALC. All opinions here are my own.
This book was refreshing. Simple, yet complicated, sweet, and easy. Characters that you can relate to. The perfect summer read! It was everything I needed in this moment.
I absolutely loved this book! What a great summer book. I think this book was also a great reminder for us to do things out of our comfort zone. Kelsey Worthington is a workaholic who is made to rest and reevaluate her life after she is hit by a car. Her hospital roommate the famous Georgina Tate inspires her to create a Summer of Yes. This includes doing things she would normally say no to because she was always too busy working.
I loved the banter between both Kelsey and Georgina Courtney Walsh wrote this dual character story perfectly!
I could see a movie being made from this book!
Courtney Walsh is an automatic buy and read for me, and this novel is no exception to that. This is such a fun, feel-good, beach read book that follows Kelsey and Georgina through their Summer of Yes! Kelsey has an accident that requires her to stay in a hospital with a famous roommate. Upon meeting her, the two take on a challenge together to say yes to things, changing the course of their lives forever.
I loved this so much. The perfect light rom-com to read in the summer and to make you smile.
Thank you to NetGalley, Thomas Nelson, and Zondervan Fiction Audio as well!
Kelsey is a junior editor who likes to play it safe. She rarely goes outside of her comfort zone and is a workaholic. That all changes after she is hit by a car and ends up in the hospital. While in the hospital she meets Georgina Tate, a self made business woman who put her career before everything else. Kelsey can’t help but look at Georgina and wonder “was it worth it?” After being discharged from the hospital Kelsey decides that she needs to make a change in her life, she needs to say yes. She takes Georgina along for the journey and convinces her to spend what time she has left saying yes and making amends.
The audiobook was a cute, light hearted book. The best thing about this book is the characters. They’re flawed, quirky and lovable. Although there is a little insta-love which I’m not the biggest fan of. While the book was slow and repetitive at times I did enjoy listening to Kelsey and Georgina’s POVs. I wouldn’t say that the plot was extraordinary by any means but the characters and their relationships made up for it. If you’re looking for a quick, heartwarming summer read then I recommend this book!
When Kelsey (Kelly? Kasey?) is hit by a car that jumped the curb and wakes up in the hospital, she begins to question her whole life. Georgina Tate, a business icon, is her roommate there, and her presence makes Kelsey question her own decisions even more. She wishes to be a writer, but is instead working as a very underappreciated editor. She is losing sight of family and friends in an effort to work harder and climb that career ladder. When it occurs to her that Georgina has experienced the career success that she has longed for, but doesn’t have a single visitor, other than her paid assistant, she questions her own choices even more. Georgina who quite frankly seems mostly annoyed by Kelsey, tells her to say yes more. This advice sends Kelsey on a journey that will ultimately change both of their lives.
I loved both Kelsey and Georgina here. The audiobook, narrated by Tanya Eby and Cathi Colas, brings Walsh’s character development to life. I’m certainly more the age of Georgina who likes to feel like she has the time to effect great change like Kelsey. I love that when Kelsey commits to the idea of a summer of yes that she does so wholeheartedly. She takes her sick and vacation time and reconnects with friends and does everything in her power to bring Georgina along on her journey. I love her commitment to a goal and her refusal to look back. The quietly developed connection between the two is beautiful to watch. Kelsey commits to helping Georgina - even though Georgina resists fiercely. In spite of disagreement, disappointment, and sadness, their journey is peppered with humor and some laughter. Walsh creates a delightful balance. The supporting cast rounds out the book nicely. Georgina’s assistant and her son (a little bit of romance, anyone?) and Kelsey’s friends and coworkers all support Kelsey’s desire for change for herself and Georgina. Walsh creates a lovely world in this book.
What a great message Walsh teaches - of course most of us can say “yes” more often than we do. And here’s the thing - Georgina who could well have been facing the end of her life - ALSO learns to say yes more. Folks, Walsh shows us in The Summer of Yes we can always change our lives for the better. I have been thinking quietly since finishing this book about places where I can be more adventurous with my willingness to say yes - a fun and thought provoking read.

Kelsey Worthington is a workaholic who doesn't have time for fun and friends until a car accident lands her in the hospital. She ends up bunked with a Miranda Priestly type and the two hit off an unlikely friendship.
The book was slow to start, but I did enjoy the friendship between Kelsey and Georgina.
The book does make you stop and think there is more to life than work and family and friends are what is most important. And to say "yes" every once in awhile.
Kelsey Worthington is a workaholic and doesn't like to take risks or step outside of her comfort zone. After being hit by a car and surviving, she meets Georgina Tate - a well-known successful business woman - in the hospital. Georgina has everything she's dreamed of, but has said no to some pretty important things along the way. Kelsey starts to question if the life she is pursuing is really worth it. Kelsey convinces Georgina to join her on a Summer of Yes adventure!
I really enjoyed this book! It was so unique and had all of the great qualities that I love about Courtney Walsh’s writing. It did start out a little slower paced for me - but that may have just been my mood. I was unsure about Georgina at first, because she was pretty unlikable. But by the end, Walsh really had me caring about her and being able to empathize. I love it when authors do that!! There was such a good message in this book about taking risks, forgiveness and grace!
The male characters in this book were wonderful and so full of love and grace!! This was a great summer read! I highly recommend!!
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for a copy of the e-book and audiobook to read and review.
The Summer of Yes is a delightful, heartwarming story about friendship, love, forgiveness and venturing out of your comfort zone. The beautiful cover of this book might lead you to think you're in for a fluffy beach read, and while it would be a great book to throw in your beach bag, it's really so much more than that. It makes one think about the choices we make in our lives and about what is really important. The story is told from the points of view of two strong women in very different places in their lives who end up learning a great deal from each other. I especially appreciated that there were two different narrators for the audiobook - they really helped show the personalities of the two women. I don't always read the author's note but I was glad that I read this one to learn how her life was similar to the lives of her characters. I too could use to "say yes" a bit more in my life and this book, and Walsh's note, served as a good reminder of that.
The Summer of Yes by Courtney Walsh. This book had a lot of potential. It had a good message, good plot and kept me interested but it was a bit too cheesy for me. I definitely enjoy RomCom's in between thrillers and heavier books but this one had too many cringy moments. Overall, it was a good book though.
