Just the most delightful book about saying yes to the opportunities that scare you, that push you out of your comfort zone, that change you into a better person. I adored Georgina and Kelsey's relationship as they grew and changed and tried to be better, happier people. And the double dash of romance was just the cherry on top!
Thank you to Netgalley for my complimentary ALC. All opinions here are my own.
This book was refreshing. Simple, yet complicated, sweet, and easy. Characters that you can relate to. The perfect summer read! It was everything I needed in this moment.
I absolutely loved this book! What a great summer book. I think this book was also a great reminder for us to do things out of our comfort zone. Kelsey Worthington is a workaholic who is made to rest and reevaluate her life after she is hit by a car. Her hospital roommate the famous Georgina Tate inspires her to create a Summer of Yes. This includes doing things she would normally say no to because she was always too busy working.
I loved the banter between both Kelsey and Georgina Courtney Walsh wrote this dual character story perfectly!
I could see a movie being made from this book!
Courtney Walsh is an automatic buy and read for me, and this novel is no exception to that. This is such a fun, feel-good, beach read book that follows Kelsey and Georgina through their Summer of Yes! Kelsey has an accident that requires her to stay in a hospital with a famous roommate. Upon meeting her, the two take on a challenge together to say yes to things, changing the course of their lives forever.
I loved this so much. The perfect light rom-com to read in the summer and to make you smile.
Thank you to NetGalley, Thomas Nelson, and Zondervan Fiction Audio as well!
Kelsey is a junior editor who likes to play it safe. She rarely goes outside of her comfort zone and is a workaholic. That all changes after she is hit by a car and ends up in the hospital. While in the hospital she meets Georgina Tate, a self made business woman who put her career before everything else. Kelsey can’t help but look at Georgina and wonder “was it worth it?” After being discharged from the hospital Kelsey decides that she needs to make a change in her life, she needs to say yes. She takes Georgina along for the journey and convinces her to spend what time she has left saying yes and making amends.
The audiobook was a cute, light hearted book. The best thing about this book is the characters. They’re flawed, quirky and lovable. Although there is a little insta-love which I’m not the biggest fan of. While the book was slow and repetitive at times I did enjoy listening to Kelsey and Georgina’s POVs. I wouldn’t say that the plot was extraordinary by any means but the characters and their relationships made up for it. If you’re looking for a quick, heartwarming summer read then I recommend this book!
When Kelsey (Kelly? Kasey?) is hit by a car that jumped the curb and wakes up in the hospital, she begins to question her whole life. Georgina Tate, a business icon, is her roommate there, and her presence makes Kelsey question her own decisions even more. She wishes to be a writer, but is instead working as a very underappreciated editor. She is losing sight of family and friends in an effort to work harder and climb that career ladder. When it occurs to her that Georgina has experienced the career success that she has longed for, but doesn’t have a single visitor, other than her paid assistant, she questions her own choices even more. Georgina who quite frankly seems mostly annoyed by Kelsey, tells her to say yes more. This advice sends Kelsey on a journey that will ultimately change both of their lives.
I loved both Kelsey and Georgina here. The audiobook, narrated by Tanya Eby and Cathi Colas, brings Walsh’s character development to life. I’m certainly more the age of Georgina who likes to feel like she has the time to effect great change like Kelsey. I love that when Kelsey commits to the idea of a summer of yes that she does so wholeheartedly. She takes her sick and vacation time and reconnects with friends and does everything in her power to bring Georgina along on her journey. I love her commitment to a goal and her refusal to look back. The quietly developed connection between the two is beautiful to watch. Kelsey commits to helping Georgina - even though Georgina resists fiercely. In spite of disagreement, disappointment, and sadness, their journey is peppered with humor and some laughter. Walsh creates a delightful balance. The supporting cast rounds out the book nicely. Georgina’s assistant and her son (a little bit of romance, anyone?) and Kelsey’s friends and coworkers all support Kelsey’s desire for change for herself and Georgina. Walsh creates a lovely world in this book.
What a great message Walsh teaches - of course most of us can say “yes” more often than we do. And here’s the thing - Georgina who could well have been facing the end of her life - ALSO learns to say yes more. Folks, Walsh shows us in The Summer of Yes we can always change our lives for the better. I have been thinking quietly since finishing this book about places where I can be more adventurous with my willingness to say yes - a fun and thought provoking read.

Kelsey Worthington is a workaholic who doesn't have time for fun and friends until a car accident lands her in the hospital. She ends up bunked with a Miranda Priestly type and the two hit off an unlikely friendship.
The book was slow to start, but I did enjoy the friendship between Kelsey and Georgina.
The book does make you stop and think there is more to life than work and family and friends are what is most important. And to say "yes" every once in awhile.
Kelsey Worthington is a workaholic and doesn't like to take risks or step outside of her comfort zone. After being hit by a car and surviving, she meets Georgina Tate - a well-known successful business woman - in the hospital. Georgina has everything she's dreamed of, but has said no to some pretty important things along the way. Kelsey starts to question if the life she is pursuing is really worth it. Kelsey convinces Georgina to join her on a Summer of Yes adventure!
I really enjoyed this book! It was so unique and had all of the great qualities that I love about Courtney Walsh’s writing. It did start out a little slower paced for me - but that may have just been my mood. I was unsure about Georgina at first, because she was pretty unlikable. But by the end, Walsh really had me caring about her and being able to empathize. I love it when authors do that!! There was such a good message in this book about taking risks, forgiveness and grace!
The male characters in this book were wonderful and so full of love and grace!! This was a great summer read! I highly recommend!!
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for a copy of the e-book and audiobook to read and review.
The Summer of Yes is a delightful, heartwarming story about friendship, love, forgiveness and venturing out of your comfort zone. The beautiful cover of this book might lead you to think you're in for a fluffy beach read, and while it would be a great book to throw in your beach bag, it's really so much more than that. It makes one think about the choices we make in our lives and about what is really important. The story is told from the points of view of two strong women in very different places in their lives who end up learning a great deal from each other. I especially appreciated that there were two different narrators for the audiobook - they really helped show the personalities of the two women. I don't always read the author's note but I was glad that I read this one to learn how her life was similar to the lives of her characters. I too could use to "say yes" a bit more in my life and this book, and Walsh's note, served as a good reminder of that.
The Summer of Yes by Courtney Walsh. This book had a lot of potential. It had a good message, good plot and kept me interested but it was a bit too cheesy for me. I definitely enjoy RomCom's in between thrillers and heavier books but this one had too many cringy moments. Overall, it was a good book though.
The journey intertwines the lives of these two women, exploring love, forgiveness, fun, regret, and the importance of living a fearless life. How well they fit each other’s life like a missing puzzle.
Kelsey's journey of self-discovery and Georgina's reflections on her past make for a compelling narrative that encourages readers to step out of their comfort zones and embrace life fully.
I resonated with Kelsey on many parameters and felt like I needed this perspective on life. I am glad I decided to read this book. The audiobook version made the story even more fun and interesting.
What a fun summer read. But Whew! I related to the author's note on this book so much.
The story of Kelsey and Georgina will have you cheering each character on throughout the book. I just wanted them to both be so happy. Kelsey once mentioned, “I even have a wooden sign in my apartment that says let’s stay home.” I couldn’t help but laugh as I looked up at my wall and saw a sign with the same wording!!! (Pic attached). Honestly, that is what drew me to this book! The title!! The Summer of YES. 5 stars for this fun engaging new release!
What a heartwarming ride! This book had a little bit of everything I love.
Kelsey finds herself confronting her own life choices after waking up in the hospital after a near-death experience. Not wanting to get behind she launches right back into her old workaholic ways but soon realizes it may not be all it's cracked up to be. Especially after she recognizes a glimpse of her future self in her hospital roomie.
This was a refreshing dual-POV where the second POV was not a love-interest. In fact, Georgina was a cranky, workaholic, old woman and hearing her point of view may have been my favorite part of the story. The narrators, Tanya Eby and Cathi Colas, were amazing and I would highly recommend giving this book a listen. They did a fantastic job of bringing the story to life and kept the story flowing. It was fast-paced and enjoyable from start to finish. Plus, even if you aren't a work-obsessed human like these main characters, the insights shared can definitely be insightful for all of us.
Thank you to Courtney Walsh and Harper Collins Christian Publishing and Thomas Nelson Fiction for the audiobook. It was a delight.
A chance encounter between young editor Kelsey and a legendary businesswoman Georgina leads to an unlikely companionship and a summer of "yes"!
I just loved how wholesome this book was! Be warned, it is going to make you feel all kind of feelings! It did make me cry, and not too many books do Kelsey is an interesting character. She is quite persistent and I won't lie, she got a tiny bit on my nerves trying to coax Georgina, an elderly woman on dialysis, to go on adventures. But, just like Georgina, I did warm up to Kelsey eventually and even began liking her "writer's brain" and her running narratives. The banter in the book is hilarious. The novel really inspires you to take leaps of faith, make amends, chose kindness and family, and maybe even say 'yes' to a second chance at love. And... there is an amazingly wonderful new book boyfriend on the block!
This is a beautiful heartwarming story about family, grace, forgiveness and preserving love. I would reread this book in a heartbeat
3.5 ⭐️
This was a perfect summer roadtrip down the East coat audiobook for me! This book was kind of the same vibe as Letters to Juliet for me.
Kelsey is in sort of a slump and not super content with her life. While in the hospital she meets an old lady, and sorts of forces a friendship on her 🤣 Not gonna lie, the first 40% or so of the story was very slow. I appreciated having an audiobook to listen to.
Kelsey and Georgina embark on a journey to reconcile her with her family, knowing Georgina doesn’t have much longer to live. Reflecting back, I have some issues with Kelsey inserting herself in others business and forcing Georgina to do things she didn’t want to do. However, the roadtrip is where things picked up and I was vibing with the summer coastal feels. Kelsey meets Georgina’s son 👀 and they have their own little summer romance moment. I do love that Courtney Walsh is a Christian and clean writer, so the romance felt very lighthearted. And while I don’t usually read just women’s literature, I’m glad that a significant part of the book was focused on Courtney and Georgina’s journeys of saying yes rather than having this be another romance read.
I really enjoyed having the audiobook version of this story. Thank you so much NetGalley for this!
5 stars for The Summer of Yes! What a fun, adventurous book to get you in a summer feeling (of course). I really felt inspired reading about Georgina and Kelsey. This was my first from Courtney Walsh and I can say it won't be my last.
The narrators were perfect for this story. I really felt like I was getting the character's perspective from these voices.
Thank you so much to NetGalley, HarperCollins Christian Publishing | Thomas Nelson Fiction, and Courtney Walsh for this audiobook in exchange for my honest review. The Summer of Yes is available now.
Some books come to you when you need them, and this book was one for me. Just like Walsh’s THE HAPPY LIFE OF ISADORA BENTLEY, this too has a wonderful message of living your best life. Say yes when you can, but make sure it’s something you want to do, but be brave to try something new.
Kelsey and Georgina were awesome. They were so well done. As always, Walsh does an incredible job with her characters. (All characters were so well done). I loved Kelsey’s decision to say yes and how she dragged Georgina on her Yes journey. But it was something Georgina needed in her life, just as much as Kelsey.
There are so many funny moments, Georgina especially had me laughing so hard. The development of Kelsey and Georgina’s characters was perfect. I loved their adventures with the Yeses that brought so much humor and joy to their lives. And of course the dual POV with Kelsey and Georgina added so much to the story.
HUGE thank you to the publisher for the audio approval. The audio narrators did a fantastic job!
Sweet story about learning what is actually important in life. For some reason the characters didn't give the story line its justice. I needed a little more say yes situations. Overall it was a good book people will love.

Thank you @netgalley and @tnzfiction for the opportunity to listen to this audiobook.
This story follows Kelsey who wakes up in a hospital bed. After a freak accident she realizes how often the fear of saying yes has stopped her from making decisions. Sadly, her life now revolves around work and that’s about it. What better person to join her on this summer of yes than Georgina Tate the NYC businesswoman who she shared her hospital room with.
I absolutely loved the premise of this book. I immediately connected with Kelsey. It is so easy to get stuck in the monotony of life. When something gets turned upside down you take advantage of the change.
Georgina and Kelsey were total opposites. I love how their dynamic worked so well in this story. They each helped the other step a little out of their comfort zone. And in the end the result changed both of their lives. The redemption and romance in this story was oh so sweet. 🥰
Narrated by Tanya Eby and Cathi Colas. I don’t know that I’ve listened to either of these two before, but it was such a great dual narration. I was able to listen to this audiobook on 2.5 speed without missing a single thing.
What a beautiful, emotional and inspiring story! I felt so many emotions listening to this book! It was so beautiful, and so moving! Just like the two characters, I tend to say no to challenges, to anything out of my comfort zone, to … life… yeah pretty much the best way to summit up. And this story just make you realise how short life is and how saying yes can be so important (just like a “no” can when needed!)
I highly recommend this book! The narrators were perfect, the story was beautiful!
