While How To Make Your Food Famous offers a lot of information on the technical aspects of food photography and social media strategy, it ultimately falls short in delivering anything particularly new or groundbreaking for those already familiar with the space.

The book covers a broad range of topics, from gear and styling tips to lighting and video creation, with a focus on how to stand out on Instagram and TikTok. The compilation of advice from over 40 food influencers and photographers is a nice touch, but the content ends up feeling more like a surface-level overview than a deep dive into the practicalities of becoming a successful food content creator.

For someone just starting out in food photography, this might be a helpful and easy-to-read primer. The format is digestible, with short essays and quick tips, which is convenient in today’s fast-paced world. However, if you're looking for more substantive guidance or insider secrets, this book doesn't quite deliver. A lot of the advice feels like common knowledge for anyone with a passing interest in food photography or social media growth, making it hard to justify as an essential read.

In terms of style, the photographs included are interesting and showcase how styling and props can elevate a dish, but again, they don’t provide much more than what’s already readily available online. The book may offer some valuable tips for beginners, but for anyone with prior knowledge of food photography or social media, it comes off as rather basic and lacking depth.

In the end, How To Make Your Food Famous is an okay guide for those at the very beginning of their journey, but it doesn't go beyond the basics or offer much that isn't already available elsewhere on the internet. If you're hoping to become the next big foodfluencer, you might want to look elsewhere for more in-depth insights.

Anyone who has ever seen blogs or other social media food sites knows that some are good and some are absolutely awful. Anyone contemplating posting food articles needs to do some research and learn some fundamentals before trying to get on the bandwagon. How To Make Your Food Famous: A Masterclass in Sharing Your Food Online, by food photographer, stylist, food content creator and best-selling author, Kimberly Espinel is one of the best books out there for beginners, as well as those already online who want to make their site even better.

While the book isn’t too long, and is well-organized, it contains valuable information that will make anyone who posts to social media an expert on the subject. There are actually dozens of short articles on every necessary subject to elevate a site from mundane to one that will be visited over and over. Even veteran bloggers can learn a lot from this book.

The author’s photography hints are timely and useful. Although I have posted photos on my site, her hints have made them much nicer and they are much more attractive. Other articles that are very helpful include telling stories, being persistent, styling tips, and finding your own style to name a few.

All told, this book is excellent and should be on the shelf of anyone who posts food articles online. This one is highly recommended.

Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review copy of this book.

I really enjoyed this book of tips and tricks as well as interviews with food influencers. As someone who is an avid photographer, but focuses on landscapes, I feel like I learned a bit about food photography as well. Great pictures made it a pleasure to read as well!

Unfortunately I didn’t finish reading it before it expired but I like the layout and how the information was organized. Spending my hospital time wisely by catching up on some reading. As I’ve been navigating my life with food and health I’ve enjoyed posting about food and would like to do so more regularly. I was so excited when NetGalley added “How to Make Your Food Famous” by Kimberly Espinel! This book combines the best of a nuts and bolts how-to book with that much needed chat with a friend who knows all about a topic you are desperate to learn about, in this case running a food-related social account. The book includes advice, lessons learned, gorgeous food photography, and origin stories from dozens of creators who represent the breadth of food content creators. Technical advice ranging from photography to content creation schedules to choosing garnishes are sprinkled throughout. As a new creator looking to level up my work, this book came at the perfect time! I highly recommend this for anyone who currently posts content, or anyone who wants to, as a guide and friend along the way.

Great choice of colors for the book cover. The lay out is easy on the eyes and easy to read as well.

Good lighting, a creative eye, an awareness of the changes in your chosen market and as always, the ability to collaborate. It’s more easily said than done, though. This may be a guide on how to make your food content standout but I believe most of these tips are useful for social media content creation in general.

I picked this book up not because I was interested in becoming a food influencer but because I was interested in finding out more about better food photography. Unfortunately, this book didn't cover much about that. Most of the book was interviews with food influencers about how they grew their social media presence.

This book pointed out to me how not into social media I am. I had never heard of any of the people in this book. LOL

There was a lot of nice photography in the book and inspiring stories but I don't know how valuable the advice here really is. It was mostly about making sure you pick a niche and post consistently. Everyone knows that. It seemed more like a high level overview than really getting into details.

This is an excellent book for people who want to be successful as food content creators. It features double page spreads from a wide variety of successful food influencers on TikTok, instagram and YouTube with advice and examples of their posts. There is also some advice from the author on things like photography and what types of foods are the most popular.

I read a temporary digital copy of this book for review.

The book is nicely formatted and offers a lot a tips but they are so basic I'm not sure who would truly benefit from this book. I can see it selling during graduation time or the holidays to people looking for a gift for the niece/nephew that they don't know too well but I feel that anyone that is even slightly serious about the subject will have out grown the info before they are even finished the book.

The insights from other food influencers are fun to read but again so short that they mainly offer insperation to read more elsewhere.

As a food blogger this book was truly inspirational and gave me a lot of food for thought on how I can improve my interactions and content! I love how it's relatable advice from actual content creators on how they grew, their takes and best tips. The book flows well and has a great amount of ideas in it to try but in a digestible manner. I can't wait to put some of this into practice!

I'm ALWAYS in the kitchen cooking up something new for my husband and I, and YOU KNOW the camera HAS TO EAT FIRST. That being said, I am so thankful to the publisher, Netgalley, and Kimberly Espinel for granting me advanced access to this cookbook before it hits shelves on August 20, 2024.
