This book was alright. I kind of figured out what happened at some point in the book and the ending was not exactly surprising. It was a little bad sad to read but was accurate and made sense. I would recommend this as a quick thriller to read, but it's nothing too unique.
Wow! Maria Frankland hits it out of the park once again! In fact, I think that this is her best book yet. I was expecting just another psychological thriller and I got that plus a whole lot more. The Married Couple is a domestic thriller, a prison story and courtroom drama all rolled into one. These seemingly disparate genres meshed together wonderfully here. I figured out the twist kind of early but, still, this fast paced story had me too hooked in to stop reading. A lot of this story deals with mental health issues, including self-harming, which may put some people off. Sadness and despair is a major theme and there are no happy endings.
Thank you, NetGalley, for allowing me to read an ARC of this amazing book!
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for this Advanced Reader’s Copy of The Married Couple by Maria Frankland due to be published August 6, 2024.
I have previously read three of Maria Frankland’s books and loved them so I was so excited to read this one!
Michelle Jackson has been killed and her husband, Paul, is accused of murdering her. Six-year-old Emily, who was home at the time, is refusing to speak. Is Paul guilty, or did someone else kill Michelle?
This book had me hooked from the beginning – I read it in a couple days. It took me through a roller coaster of emotions with all the twists and turns. It finally came together in the surprising ending – this is one I definitely recommend as I do all of Maria Frankland’s books! You will not be disappointed!

What a fantastic thrilling read this is a new author to me but one that I will look out for. I couldn't put it down
Thank you for the opportunity to review
Michelle and Paul appeared to be the perfect couple, so in love, and with a beautiful little girl making them a happy family. On the outside. Behind closed doors things are different, and only a very few people have any idea that things are not what they seem. Then, Michelle is found dead in their cottage while they are on holiday, she has been stabbed, and Paul is arrested. He swears he is innocent, but the marriage was full of secrets and lies, so who knows if he is telling the truth.
This is a gripping read, with a roller coaster of a plot, and an ending I didn't see coming. Thoroughly recommended.
This is the first book I’ve read by Maria. If you are looking for a psychological thriller, this book is it!! What a rollercoaster of a book. Life hasn’t been easy for Paul and Michelle. Michelle can’t seem to keep her emotions under control and Paul has to take the brunt of it. I really felt sad for Paul, he just wanted to make everything work so their daughter Emily could grow up in a good home. I do think there should have been a trigger warning in the beginning for self harm. Some of that was a little hard to read/uncomfortable. Aside from that, this book kept me on the edge of my seat. Clearly Michelle struggled with her mental health and took it out on him. I do think Paul spent a little too much time with his coworker who seemed liked she couldn’t be trusted. Michelle ends up dead but who did it? Of course everyone always looks at the husband. I was truly shocked by how it ended. It was certainly a wild ride and the ending did not disappoint. I would definitely recommend this book! I’m also really looking forward to reading more books by Maria. Thank you so much Maria, NetGalley, and Bookouture for the ARC!
I enjoyed this story about a husband accused of murdering his wife, lots of twists and turns., it was hard to put down.
I really enjoyed this book it was the perfect summer thriller with plenty of twists throughout. I could not put it down once I started I found it really difficult to put down. Fantastic thriller which I will definitely be recommending to everyone. I had not read anything by this author before this and all I can say is I will be reading the rest of them as this was amazing. Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for my advanced copy.
Wow! I have never read a book by Maria Frankland up until now. This had me hooked from the very beginning. It was very dark and sinister, a male victim of domestic violence, a dead wife. I did have a feeling quite early on who was involved..but didn't expect the ending to turn out the way it did. I loved all the courtroom stuff, and learning just how toxic this marriage was. Very highly recommended, 5 stars isn't enough!
Thanks to NetGalley for allowing me to read this book. This had so many twists and turns, I felt like I was on a rollercoaster. It certainly kept me guessing from beginning to end. I did not see that twist coming. Round of applause, a five star read in my eyes.
I love Maria franklands books and loved her new domestic abuse story. This book is a show stopper - one I would give to my friends. I would buy multiple copies of this book for people! After reading plenty of thrillers it takes a lot these days for me to not work out the ending but this one totally got me. Overall really clever, well written and one I will be recommending.
A gripping tale. When a woman is being abused mentally and physically it is believable and people are sympathetic but what about when it is the other way around and the man is being abused? He doesn't want to tell people as they won't believe him and may think him a wimp, less of a man and he loves his wife despite her craziness and wants to protect his child. Is any of this true? who is manipulating who? Kept me on the edge of my seat until the end.
I really loved this book! It’s the perfect domestic thriller with plenty of twists throughout. I raced through it in almost one sitting. I’ve not read much by this author, however I’ll definitely be looking out for more in future.
I always read Maria’s books as soon as they come out. She has a way of writing that keeps your interest throughout. You can’t help but feel for the poor protagonist and his journey to prove his innocence. And I loved the way the story was told in multiple POV. Some of the domestic violence was very troubling; however, it was realistic. It certainly shows how petty disagreements can turn into ugly violence. It really wasn’t difficult to figure out part of the twist. Unfortunately I didn’t care for the final ending. But that didn’t stop me from enjoying the reading journey. Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this arc. Paul is accused of murdering his wife. No one believes he’s innocent. Their little girl, Emily, is refusing to speak. An outstanding domestic thriller, with gaslighting, abuse and twists that you’ll never believe!!!
The Married Couple by Maria Frankland is a compelling and twist-filled domestic psychological thriller.
The story starts right off with a stabbing of Michelle, and her husband Paul is arrested. Emily, their 6-year-old daughter, is in the house and may have witnessed what happened.
The story involves domestic violence and emotional abuse. The story is told from multiple viewpoints, which seemed to work for the most part. It was sometimes hard to figure out the timeline as there was not segue or mention when something shifeted. I did have the plotline figured out, but, overall, a good weekend read.
I would rate this a 3.75 out of 5 stars; the plot has been done before and it was a bit obvious how the story would turn out.

I just love Maria's books, you never know just what you're going to get! This is another one if her exceptionally well written, domestic thrillers. I really didn't know which direction this was going to take initially. It ended nothing like I thought! I loved it, full of twists and deceptions, a fab read.
What is there not to love about this book? That's a very good question and I honestly cannot name one thing.
The writing style is very fluent, the characters are great and I liked the premise. The author also manages to leave my mind in dubio the whole time. I could not really decide whether I found myself in the 'I believe their story' or the 'I don't buy it at all' team.
I had my eye on something I found suspicious and it seemed I was right about that, but I had not expected this outcome.
This is a great domestic and I admired and felt for Paul at the same time. He says he did not kill his wife. Now it's up to the jury to decide whether he can walk away or remain locked up.
I have utterly enjoyed every book I have read by this author and this one is no exception. 5 stars
Thank you
What a great domestic thriller. You might think you know how this is going to end but trust me you are in for a thrill ride and killer ending.
Recently I've read a lot from this author as they are the master of psychological thrillers. So when I saw this you've no idea how excited I was to delve in.
Now I have to say in my opinion this is the authors best book yet! It is absolutely outstanding. The amount of twists especially towards the end of the book.. my god I couldn't believe it. The storyline definitely opens your eyes and makes you aware of how things aren't as they seem. Honestly that ending is fantastic. This will definitely be heading straight to the top of the bestsellers list.
