Finally! A book written for people like me. I'm a stroke survivor, with limited strength and endurance in my left leg. I loved running and hiking before my event, but have been having a hard time finding places to hike that are manageable. The author hit it out of the park with this book. They describe many hikes in Northern California, including the type of trail (layout), the length, and the elevation gain. Beyond that they include many things like the surface of the trail, pet friendly or not, even whether or not there is cell phone reception.
The author has developed her own ranking system, using spoons. It's based on how accessible the trail is and how much effort it would take to hike it. Clever!
There are about 40 trails in the book. Broken down into sections like scenic drives, ADA accessible, and then 1 through 5 spoons.
Using this book, I feel much more confident in selecting places to hike when we are visiting friends in the area. AND...bonus.....I found out the author has a similar book for my home base of Western Washington! I will be ordering that one today.
The writing is good, and very easy to understand. The photographs are very pretty. All in all, I loved this book and it's ideas.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read and review this ARC.
