With "Low-Hanging Fruit: Sparkling Whines, Champagne Problems, and Pressing Issues from My Gay Agenda," comedian/social commentator/bestselling author Randy Rainbow once again shows up with his unique tapestry of sex talk meets social observations meets outrageous humor in this latest collection of essays expanding his vibrant and alive rainbow universe.

Rainbow is likely still best known for his Youtube presence blending political satire and musical parodies unabashedly skewing a variety of political figures (mostly right-wing, though not exclusively). While Rainbow's universe has definitely expanded to include his wildly successful first book "Playing with Myself" and a national comedy tour, Randy Rainbow is still Randy Rainbow and if you love what you know about him then you'll undeniably love "Low-Hanging Fruit" even if it doesn't hit quite as hard as "Playing with Myself."

There's still a definite political angle to much of what Rainbow writes, his "hard-hitting gay agenda" tackles everything from dancing TikTok grandmas to Elon Musk, to a variety of GOP figures and, of course, a certain "Donald Jessica Trump."

"Low-Hanging Fruit" brings back some familiar Rainbow narratives including a delightful conversation with his mother, Gwen, that serves as one of the book's highlights. Rainbow is at his best when he's dishing out biographical stories or ranting on politics. I found myself a little less engaged when he dips into pop culture and/or when he's making light of having become as successful and privileged as some of the figures he taunts along the way.

However, underneath all the humor there's a rather pointed observation that America is a country in need of a makeover and, well, Rainbow is definitely up to that task.

Amidst all of his outlandishness, there's a surprising normalcy to Rainbow and he's the kind of guy you can see yourself hanging out with (if he wasn't so darn introverted).

While "Low-Hanging Fruit" didn't quite grab me as much as "Playing with Myself," it's still a fun and fabulous read from a man who has a gift for making us laugh and making us think all at the same time. Rainbow may very well be a lot more successful now, but he's still Randy Rainbow and there's for sure no one else out there just like him.

I received a free ebook from Netgalley in exchange for fair and a unbiased review. I have not read any of Randy's other books. I have watched a lot of his videos. I have always liked him and thought he was very funny.

This is an easy to read book. I finished the book quickly. It has short chapters. The content is very light.

The book is supposed to be funny. Unfortunately, I did not see the humor in the book. It seemed more complaining than funny. I wanted to find it funny. I wanted to laugh.

I liked the parts of the book were he talked about his childhood. I liked when I felt like I could connect with the author. A lot of the book was a little too much for me. At times, he would comment on what he was writing. It felt like he knew it was too much too.

I am thankful to Netgalley and the author for the opportunity to read this book. I am thankful that I got to know Randy Rainbow a little more.

Low-Hanging Fruit by Randy Rainbow is an honest, witty, and shrewdly observed collection of essays that unflinchingly take on everything from the social commentator's hookups to aging to, of course, Donald Jessica Trump. I loved Playing With Myself, and could not wait to get my hands on Randy's Low-Hanging Fruit.

It is not often that I will laugh out loud while reading anything, but the author's cutting remarks about his general peeves and daily annoyances were so on point that I could only guffaw to express my wholehearted agreement. You will not regret picking this one up, as I can honestly say that I was completely enamoured of it. Randy, do you see what I did there? Apologies for the Canadian spelling, I do realize that you live in New York, but we at least share the correct time zone, so there is that.

Many thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for an ARC of this delightful book.
