Quick review for a quick read. I knew that was going to happen – I knew it, I knew it. 🙂 The last installment of the serial novel “Deceptive Innocence” was a satisfying read for the most part. I definitely appreciated the way the novella kept the tension going from beginning to end, and while this isn’t the end of the respective “Pure Sin” series, it concludes in a way that provides a good setup for the next novel.


Long story short: Bell is fully immersed in raising tensions coming to the surface in the Gable family. She’s torn between her affections for Lander and ultimately getting revenge on everyone in the family for falsely accusing her mother of murder, eventually leading to her mother’s death. This part of the novel begins where the latter novella left off – a tense meeting of an ally Bell realizes she may end up betraying if she goes through the plan that she has in her head. There are also tensions raising between Lander, his cruel brother Travis, and Travis’s wife who are quickly making Bell realize she might be in over her head – but she’s driven by anger and revenge. The sexual tension and chemistry comes across very well between this alternating storyline, and ultimately it ends up in a place I knew it would go, but not quite in the progression that I’d imagined. I think what made me really enjoy this story the most was Davis’s wonderful attention to detail, vivid characters, and ultimately a story that kept me turning page after page until the very end. I’m definitely looking forward to reading “Dangerous Alliance.”
