✨🥪 Spells and Sandwiches by Kate Moseman is an absolute delight that serves up a delightful blend of magic, humor, and a dash of romance! From the moment Zelda Hawkins steps into her family’s old restaurant in Manhattan, I was hooked on her quirky adventure through the whimsical world of witchcraft and culinary delights! 🌈💖
Zelda is such a lovable character! With dreams of crafting the perfect sandwich rather than spells, she’s relatable to anyone trying to find their place in the world. But when a mysterious vampire offers her free rent in exchange for repairing a magical mirror, her life takes an unexpected—and utterly enchanting—turn. I loved how her culinary skills intertwined with her newfound magical heritage, creating a deliciously unique premise that kept me grinning! 🍴✨
The cast of supporting characters is just as endearing! From Zelda’s rescue poodle, who is just as ridiculous and lovable as any canine companion should be, to the mind-reading fire witch and her smoldering ex-boyfriend, every character adds layers of charm and wit to the story. And let’s not forget the Brooklyn hipster assisting with renovation—his presence adds a fun and flirty dynamic that had me swooning! 😍🕺
Moseman skillfully weaves the threads of culinary magic, paranormal shenanigans, and witty banter into a narrative that flows beautifully. The vivid descriptions of waitressing in a magical restaurant mixed with the chaos of renovations and magical mishaps had me fully immersing myself in this enchanting world. It’s the kind of book that makes you wish you could dive into the pages and join in on the fun! 🌟🏙️
As Zelda navigates the challenges of her magical inheritance, she learns more about herself and the world of witches, vampires, and fae. The stakes—both literally and figuratively—become higher in a way that is both thrilling and humorous, ensuring that readers are perpetually entertained! Moseman’s witty writing and clever plots make for an engaging read that will keep you on your toes and laughing out loud. 🎭💕

*received for free from netgalley for honest review* This was such a fun read!! really loved reading it and would love to read more from this series!

A fun listen with witchy vibes. I listened to this around Halloween and forgot to review. It was easy, the characters were fun and I hope there are more books to come so I can follow along!

Audiobook received for free through NetGalley
Overall a great listen that I finished awhile back and forgot to review. A great story though and would love to follow along with the characters a bit longer. Thanks for the listen

Title: Spells and Sandwiches

What is your favorite type of sandwich? I really like a ham and turkey sandwich.
Zelda is in New York City to open a deli. A vampire offers her free rent on her family’s old restaurant if she will repair a magic mirror. This changes her life path, and she uses her magic to get through many zany situations.
My thoughts on this audiobook:
• Hollie Jackson had a great narrator performance with good voices for the characters.
• This book was entertaining and amusing.
• It was a cozy fantasy read.
• The plot did not really capture my attention. I needed more world building/explanation.
• Zelda is a great well-rounded character. She has a great dog named Jester. There is another dog in the story named Georgiana after Georgiana Darcy in Pride and Prejudice.
• This novel was light on the romance.
• This is the first book in the West Side Witches series.
Overall, Spells and Sandwiches was a cozy read for October.

Spells and Sandwiches by Kate Moseman is an absolute delight! From the very first page, I was hooked by the charming world Moseman creates, blending magic, quirky characters, and a touch of humor. The protagonist is relatable and lovable, balancing the chaos of everyday life with her newfound magical abilities.
The storyline is fast-paced, filled with unexpected twists and turns, but always light-hearted and fun. The addition of a magical sandwich shop adds a unique and whimsical flavor to the book, making it stand out in the genre. The author’s writing is witty and engaging, with plenty of laugh-out-loud moments.
Overall, "Spells and Sandwiches" is a perfect read for anyone looking for a heartwarming, magical escape. It's full of charm, fun, and just the right amount of enchantment to keep you entertained until the very end. Highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a fun, feel-good read!

I am looking forward to the rest of the series. Love the narrator and really enjoyed this book. It had that cozy mystery vibe, but with witches. Can't wait for more.

Thanks to NetGalley & Fortunella Press for this E-ARC. Zelda takes over her witchy-grandmas’ sandwich-shop. However a witch can’t makes sandwiches in peace for long, before she’s pulled into vampire, witch & fae drama. Zelda roommate is a mind-reader and a personal favourite of mine.

I thought the beginning was very interesting but the narration unfortunately kind of killed it for me. I felt the narrator was doing way too much and moving very slowly. I enden up not finishing it.

I jumped into Spells and Sandwiches 100 percent for the cute cover and expected a fun witchy romcom. This was a fun read, but not a romcom by any means. I loved Zelda, who is older than the typical cozy fantasy by at least a decade or two.
I appreciated the quips and humor and the range of fantasy creatures represented in this book.
Thank you, NetGalley and Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op for an advanced reader audiobook copy of Spells and Sandwiches! This was a fun read, and Hollie Jackson was a fantastic narrator!

This was such a cute and cozy read, or in my case listen. I really liked the characters and found myself swept away in this story. It was a short read but that was exactly what I was looking for. Excited to check out the next in the series!

3.5/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
Spells and Sandwhiches
Author: Kate Moseman
Cute Halloween read. Thank you Netgalley and Fortunella Press for the ARC! This had all the adorable pieces of a perfect spooky season cozy read. Vampires, witches, spells and cute food references! I enjoyed it. There was something missing for me though that left me not giving it five stars. Maybe I just wanted a touch more romance. Also it was definitely a light fluffy brain candy type read, not super in depth or anything. Zero spice either. Brief description is that Zelda is offered to live rent free if she repairs this magical mirror for a vampire. There was a fun cast of side characters, and it was overall an enjoyable read if just wasn’t anything super special to me. If you are looking for something easy, with spooky season themes pick it up.

I received this book as an ARC from Netgalley. This was an incredibly cute and fast paced romance novel. The story of a black sheep food witch being bewitched by the dashing actor, with a wrench thrown in the wheel. While a simple premise, this story is full of twists and turns that make it an incredible read for anyone looking for a palate cleanser that covers a wide range of genres.

I absolutely love love love books like this. but it is a double edge sword. You love that you get to read the first one early, but then you have to wait for the next in the series.

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
This is the first book in the West Side Witches series and is my first read by this author.
Having had a little search around, I've actually discovered that there are already 3 books and a novelette out already! - and oh my gosh am I going to have fun bingeing them all!
This was such a light read and not at all as I was expecting from the cover and title (I never read the blurbs beforehand)
I thought that this might have been a full on deep epic fantasy - I'd picked it as my challenge read this month - but I was completely wowed by how this was so much more my cup of tea!!
I absolutely loved our main character, Zelda, who has moved to Manhatten to refurbish the old family restaurant.
She plans to turn it into a trendy sandwich shop, but when she arrives, it proves to need a bit more than a quick spruce up.
When her landlord appears and offers her free rent if she will help repair a magical mirror seal - we set off on a journey that takes us into the Manhatten underground world of vampires, Fae and witches galore.
All of the characters played their parts to perfection and I loved getting to know this new world and all the different species we encounter and their differing powers.
I also loved Zelda's ex, who obviously still holds a torch for her.
I definitely feel like there's going to be much more to that storyline in the future books - I can't give any spoilers but this was really well written within the main storyline and had me rooting for the pair.
We obviously encounter a villain here and as much as I disliked him, he did come across as just the right amount of dark whilst keeping in character with his species and being believable.
Although this specific storyline felt complete in itself, there are elements that left us wondering and I just know that these will be explored in the future books.
This was such an easy read and I was completely immersed from start to finish.
There was lots going on and a great balance between the paranormal darkness and the everyday banter - I literally can't wait to see what book 2 will hold!
💕Thank you to the author and NetGalley for my ARC copy - this is my honest review 💕

This is a cozy paranormal urban fantasy. I think this book would be good for fans of the show good witch. Good for the Halloween season.

This book grew on me especially with the fabulous narrator, Hollie Jackson. I absolutely enjoyed listening to her portray Zelda along with other characters. I enjoyed how every character had their own unique voice and I was able to discern who was speaking. Zelda has found herself in the middle of a supernatural battle so to speak without even realizing. I really enjoyed her relationship with her brother and her roommate. I found the roommate and brother hilarious and loved seeing their characters and banter in the story. This story is perfect for fans of paranormal women’s fiction. It is on the cozy side but it was fun getting lost in Manhattan with witches and vampires.

Spells and Sandwiches is a cute, humorous, flirty paranormal romance. I love the quirkiness and internal thoughts/dialogue of the main character. The plot is fast paced and light, sharing the story perfectly without droning on for no reason. I love the narration by Hollie Jackson who really helped bring the story to life. I'm looking forward to reading the next story in this series and reading the other books by Kate Moseman. I will also be seeking audio books narrated by Hollie Jackson (a wonderful narrator).
I highly recommend this book for a witchy fun time.

This book was the perfect witchy but not quite spooky season read. Kate Moseman smoothly introduces readers to the magical underworld of NYC and the main characters that we will be seeing throughout the series, including several potential romantic interests. The book reminded me of Sookie Stackhouse but less urban fantasy mystery and more urban fantasy romcom. There is quite a bit of banter and the narrator does an excellent job with all of it. This book is a single point of view, which can be refreshing when so many romance or fantasy titles are multi-POV. I will continue the series, likely on audio - again, the narrator does an excellent job.
I recommend this book for fans of the Sookie Stackhouse series and romcoms, as well as for those looking for not quite spooky paranormal/witch books.
