I really enjoyed this book- so fun and I then went on to read more of the series on my Kindle- I just wasn't ready to leave the world that Kate created. The characters were lovable, and the humour was great. Really great experience

When Zelda Hawkins moves to Manhattan, a mysterious vampire offers her free rent on her family’s old restaurant in exchange for fixing a magic mirror. When she fixes the mirror, however, she discovers that her grandmother had used the mirror to cast the Gentry into the mirror. As a result the mirror had been cracked and resealed. Fixing the mirror, Zelda broke the spell holding the Gentry in place. Now, a battle between the vampires is eminent. With the help of a mind-reading witch, a rescue poodle, her ex boyfriend, and a hipster, she must learn to master her magic and use her wits to fix the problem she caused and stop the villain. Will she succeed?

Narrator, Hollie Jackson’s intonations are authentic, easy to distinguish, and fit well with the characters’ personalities. Her narrative pace fits well with the book. The plot is well-developed, engaging, and humorous. The characters are entertaining, relatable, and help to bring the world to life. The world building is well-done, believable, and draws the listener into Zelda’s world. Listeners who like magical realism, fantasy, and cozy mysteries with romance will want to pick this one up. Recommended for most library collections.

3.5⭐️

Zelda Hawkins decides to take over her late Grandmother’s sandwich shop in Manhattan. Ready to make sandwiches, she is not prepared for a vampire from her Grandma’s past to show up and need help with her magical abilities. After making a hard to say no to deal, she takes on the world of witches, vampires and fae.

I listened to the audio version and I must say, Hollie Jackson is fantastic. I loved her narration, she fully embodied Zelda and painted the picture perfectly for me.

Witches and Sandwiches, what a great combination. I loved the idea of this book and Zelda was a wonderful, strong and sassy heroine. She was funny and smart, I couldn’t not like her. The progression of the story was at times a little confusing and clunky, but towards the end I was left with lots of intrigue into this world of fae. This was a great quick and cozy read that wasn’t too heavy! I would love to find out more about Baron’s and Daniel’s stories.

Thank you to NetGalley and Victory Editing NetGalley co-op for providing me with an Audio ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Ok this was a very enjoyable cozy fantasy to listen to! The narrator brought the main character Zelda to life and captures her perfectly! Zelda is middle aged (my favorite) and moving to NYC to re-open her grandmothers sandwich shop. While renovating the shop she discovers her magic coming alive and starts encountering paranormal characters like other witches and vampires. This book had a lot of characters but it added to the world building being created. Overall this was enjoyable and I can’t wait for the next

The audiobook was phenomenal! The narrator definitely added to the story.
Not sure what I was expecting, but the magics in this were way cooler than I would have thought. The world building is excellent. Such a fun read and I will definitely be carrying on with the series! I can’t wait!

This was a fun first installment for a series. When Zelda Hawkins finds herself back in Manhattan after the death of her grandmother, her only goal is to reopen the sandwich shop that inspires her to love cooking. Zelda finds the sandwich shop waiting for her, as well as an entire life she never knew her grandmother led. Zelda and the quirky cast of characters that become her support system will take you on an adventure full of unexpected twists and turns!

Spells and Sandwiches by Kate Moseman and narrated by Hollie Jackson is Book 1 in the West Side Witches series and a good cosy listen with a somehow familiar feeling storyline. I am looking forward to seeing where this series goes, it has a lot of potential

A Delightful Cozy Mystery!

Overall: 5 Stars
Performance: 5 Stars
Story: 5 Stars

I completely fell in love with this book by chapter 6. I originally received a review copy from NetGalley, but had to buy the audiobook and Kindle version. I was quickly drawn into the story and even stayed up well past my bedtime to finish it. The writing is absolutely fabulous. The world building well done. Zelda and her friends are a hoot. I'm looking forward to the next book.

this was a cozy read that perfectly scratched the itch in my brain for witchy, fall reads during the summertime.

i enjoyed the setting and the overall premise of the book, but i did feel as though the story did not flow as cohesively as it could have. the pacing was off for me and i felt like information was often being thrown at me. i love the idea of older main characters, but i felt like they didn't fully act their age -- i was often picturing characters in their 20s rather than their 40s.

though i enjoyed my time with this story i am not sure if i will continue on in the series.

First things first - this cover & title are just too cute! I had a bit of a hard time getting into the story, but I’m definitely interested in continuing the series! I am a lover of all things cozy & magical and this totally fit the bill!

I’m in my witchy era and really enjoyed this cozy book involving lots of magic, magical creatures, and sandwiches. What more could you ask for? I alternated between reading the physical book and listening to the audiobook depending on where I was and what I was doing. I thought the narrator’s voice was a good match for the various characters. I’m looking forward to reading the next installment in this 4-book series!

I am a lover of cozy fantasies. Unfortunately, I do not think “Spells and Sandwiches” makes much of an impact in comparison to the others I have read. All in all, I think it will be unrememberable. There are definitely aspects of the book that I loved, and maybe this book will work for you in ways that it did not work for me. I love the trope of having a witch have their own business, and a sandwich shop is a unique one. I also love that the main character is older, in her forties. However, I feel like she did not necessarily read this old. She felt more in her twenties. I listened to the audiobook of this book, and I really enjoyed the narrator. This is a really easy and light read, I think it could go well after a heavier book.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ALC Review

Wow, this was such a fun cute little read. This is book one in a series called West Side Witches. It is paranormal women’s fiction. A chef named Zelda comes to NY to take over her grandmothers sandwich shop. Zelda has a little secret, she is also a witch. She can no longer stop the pull Magic has in her life.

I enjoyed the audiobook, narrated by Hollie Jackson. This book is entertaining and has so many laugh out loud moments. The narration enhanced this even more. The narrator had many distinct voices for each character and they were all great.

Thank you to the author Kate Moseman and Net Galley for the advanced copy of the audio book!

I adore cozy fantasy/paranormal books and this one hit the mark. I listened to an audiobook of this story narrated by Hollie Jackson. Each character had their own personality which I love and she did a great job with sarcasm and humor. I enjoyed the story and potential love interests for books further down the line in the series. Witches and Vampires are prominent in this world and the story had me engaged and entertained, wondering how Zelda will find her own place in this world. I look forward to the next books in the series.

Thank you NetGalley for this Advance Listen Copy.
