The audiobook was phenomenal! The narrator definitely added to the story.
Not sure what I was expecting, but the magics in this were way cooler than I would have thought. The world building is excellent. Such a fun read and I will definitely be carrying on with the series! I can’t wait!
This was such a fun read. The world was so enchanting. It brightend my day and made me laugh out loud in public randomly and I looked strange. But it was totally worth it. The narrator was lovely and great voice to tell this story
This was a fun first installment for a series. When Zelda Hawkins finds herself back in Manhattan after the death of her grandmother, her only goal is to reopen the sandwich shop that inspires her to love cooking. Zelda finds the sandwich shop waiting for her, as well as an entire life she never knew her grandmother led. Zelda and the quirky cast of characters that become her support system will take you on an adventure full of unexpected twists and turns!
This was a good fun book. Zelda is a witch that has not used her power since her grandmother died. When she moves to Manhattan to reopen her grandmother's sandwich shop. When approached by a vampire for a job she cannot say no to, Zelda is now forced to use her magic again. With the help of new friends she will now have to fight new enemies out to stop her. I enjoyed this book. I cannot wait to read more in the series. Thank you to NetGalley and Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op for the audio arc in exchange for my honest review.
Spells and Sandwiches by Kate Moseman and narrated by Hollie Jackson is Book 1 in the West Side Witches series and a good cosy listen with a somehow familiar feeling storyline. I am looking forward to seeing where this series goes, it has a lot of potential
Thank you to NetGalley, Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op, Kate Moseman and the narrator Hollie Jackson for this ALC. My review is left vountarily and all opinionsa are my own
A Delightful Cozy Mystery!
Overall: 5 Stars
Performance: 5 Stars
Story: 5 Stars
I completely fell in love with this book by chapter 6. I originally received a review copy from NetGalley, but had to buy the audiobook and Kindle version. I was quickly drawn into the story and even stayed up well past my bedtime to finish it. The writing is absolutely fabulous. The world building well done. Zelda and her friends are a hoot. I'm looking forward to the next book.
Thanks for this audio. For starers I really like the story and how it develops . Is fun and entertaining. The voice were really good and enjoyable. The main character were fun and relatable . Definitely like it a lot
this was a cozy read that perfectly scratched the itch in my brain for witchy, fall reads during the summertime.
i enjoyed the setting and the overall premise of the book, but i did feel as though the story did not flow as cohesively as it could have. the pacing was off for me and i felt like information was often being thrown at me. i love the idea of older main characters, but i felt like they didn't fully act their age -- i was often picturing characters in their 20s rather than their 40s.
though i enjoyed my time with this story i am not sure if i will continue on in the series.
First things first - this cover & title are just too cute! I had a bit of a hard time getting into the story, but I’m definitely interested in continuing the series! I am a lover of all things cozy & magical and this totally fit the bill!

Hollie Jackson did a great job bringing the story to life.
Thank you NetGalley for the complimentary audiobook!
I’m in my witchy era and really enjoyed this cozy book involving lots of magic, magical creatures, and sandwiches. What more could you ask for? I alternated between reading the physical book and listening to the audiobook depending on where I was and what I was doing. I thought the narrator’s voice was a good match for the various characters. I’m looking forward to reading the next installment in this 4-book series!
I am a lover of cozy fantasies. Unfortunately, I do not think “Spells and Sandwiches” makes much of an impact in comparison to the others I have read. All in all, I think it will be unrememberable. There are definitely aspects of the book that I loved, and maybe this book will work for you in ways that it did not work for me. I love the trope of having a witch have their own business, and a sandwich shop is a unique one. I also love that the main character is older, in her forties. However, I feel like she did not necessarily read this old. She felt more in her twenties. I listened to the audiobook of this book, and I really enjoyed the narrator. This is a really easy and light read, I think it could go well after a heavier book.
Really great narrators! Such a good story, if you’re looking for an easy book to listen to! The characters are super fun, the whole story line is great. Recommend
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ALC Review
Wow, this was such a fun cute little read. This is book one in a series called West Side Witches. It is paranormal women’s fiction. A chef named Zelda comes to NY to take over her grandmothers sandwich shop. Zelda has a little secret, she is also a witch. She can no longer stop the pull Magic has in her life.
I enjoyed the audiobook, narrated by Hollie Jackson. This book is entertaining and has so many laugh out loud moments. The narration enhanced this even more. The narrator had many distinct voices for each character and they were all great.
Thank you to the author Kate Moseman and Net Galley for the advanced copy of the audio book!
I adore cozy fantasy/paranormal books and this one hit the mark. I listened to an audiobook of this story narrated by Hollie Jackson. Each character had their own personality which I love and she did a great job with sarcasm and humor. I enjoyed the story and potential love interests for books further down the line in the series. Witches and Vampires are prominent in this world and the story had me engaged and entertained, wondering how Zelda will find her own place in this world. I look forward to the next books in the series.
Thank you NetGalley for this Advance Listen Copy.
A great new cozy series. I loved every word. The characters were lovable and the setting was divine. I can't wait to see where the series goes!
Thank you to #NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Sometimes books that include food can be repetitive and boring. I thought this story was done well. I also liked the paranormal aspects of the story.
Spells and Sandwiches is the first book in the West Side Witches series. This cozy fantasy follows Zelda as she moves back to Manhattan to reopen her grandmothers sandwich shop. When her landlord who is also a vampire offers her free rent for life in exchange for a favor, Zelda must use her unusual powers to continue the work her grandmother started.
This was such a fun book to listen to. The narrator did a great job giving each character their own voice and I plan on listening to the other books in this series once they are available. This book did leave me with some questions, and I am excited to see what is next for Zelda and her group of friends.
Thank you NetGalley and Kate Moseman for the opportunity to review Spells and Sandwiches. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This book was a 3.5 for me. For some reason this book took me a little while to get into. I definitely found the beginning a bit slow, but once I hit about the half way point I started to really enjoy the book! I found the characters fun and interesting, although personally I found myself more drawn to Poppy and her story than Zelda. I enjoyed the magic system and the mix of witchcraft and vampire lore was a unique take! Overall this was a really fun and enjoyable read and I’m definitely looking forward to see where the series goes!
Spells and Sandwiches is the first book in Kate Moseman's West Side Witches series, and it is a fun and cozy urban paranormal fantasy.
Zelda Hawkins, a 47 year old witch, finds herself moving from Orlando to New York to reopen her grandmother's sandwich shop. She expected some difficulties, but what she did not expect was to run into vampires and other witches, with one asking her to repair a mirror seal that her grandmother helped cast. This book is a fun, magical read, with lots of laughs and humor! I thoroughly enjoyed this book and had a great time listening to the narrator. 4 stars!
Thank you NetGalley and Kate Moseman for such a fun ARC!
The way I was running to look for book two before this one even finished. This is a cozy paranormal fantasy that had me entranced from the first chapter. The narrator was amazing and I will absolutely be looking for other books that she has done, the way she brought all the characters to life was incredible. This book is just straight up vibes as 46 year old Zelda is on a mission to reopen her late grandmothers sandwich shop. New in town and alone Zelda is commissioned to use her magical abilities to repair a mystical mirror and finds herself surrounded by fae, vampires, and other magical entities. The world building is a little bit weak in some areas but it being the first in the series I'm hoping those get worked through in the other two books. The main character is delightful but I am really hoping we get more of Poppy in later books as she was by far my favorite. This book had found family across the board that made me smile and have just the best time. No romance so if your looking for that, you're in the wrong series, there is some "romantic moments" but that is not a plot or even subplot in this book. Overall if your looking for an easy cozy paranormal fantasy look no further and as I said I highly recommend the audiobook for this one
Thank you so much Net Galley for this audio ARC.
