E ARC Provided by Netgalley

This activity book would be a fantastic resource for children who have to take long car trips with their families... as long as they don't get car sick reading in the car the way that I do! This starts with a helpful map of the US, as well as a pictorial listing of road signs. Talk about reinforcing skills needed as an adult! I remember taking the exam for my driver's permit and wondering why I had never paid any attention to road signs!

This has great prompts for some classic car games, like All Around Town Bingo, and has a section for jokes, problems and riddles. This is a consumable book, so if you have multiple children, you might want more than one copy. There are word searches, codes to break, mazes, and a travel journal, as well as "silly stories", which are rather like Mad Libs.

There is a helpful answer key at the back, so frustration will be limited. The illustrations are simple and colorful, with plenty of white space. If I had this book as a child, I would have wanted a variety of colors of pens so I could have used this on different trips and kept them straight. The list price for this is $9, which would be money well spent for the entertainment it provides! The author does note that she tested these activities on her daughter, and they do all seem like children up to 12 or 13 would be interested in them. I've recently been appalled at home much time children spend on screens, and this would be a good way to distract children on long journeys without using damaging technology.

This is a MUST HAVE for your road trips! Don't want the kids on screens the whole drive, you have to get this book! It's engaging, but can be used for a whole group or just one kiddo. I loved how diverse the options were and was surprised by the amount of activities to keep the kids occupied. I can't wait to use this on our next trip!

My family has a home in Utah and FLorida, so we drive many places, and this book was WONDERFUL! My kids had so much fun with this one. They asked to do it again and again. Saving grace for trips!

This is a fun road-trip themed activity book. There were fewer eyes-on-the-road games listed than I expected; it’s more of a write-on-the-page type activity book. That means it won’t work in the car as well for kids who get carsick and most pages can only be used once. It is still very fun and colorful with lots of enjoyable riddles, mazes, and other puzzles themed around road trips. It’s nice to have so many different types of activities. I also appreciated the prompts in the journal section, which set this book apart from just a plain notebook. It is best for older kids ages 8-12 (as recommended in the description) who live in the US and don’t get carsick. I give it 4.5 stars rounded up to 5!

Thank you to NetGalley and Callisto Publishing for the free eARC! I post this review with my honest opinions.

This review is cross-posted on Goodreads and will be posted to Amazon and Instagram within a week of the book’s publication.

Do you know (or have) a child who is always on a screen when you travel? Would you like to offer a more old fashioned alternative that does not require charging? If so, definitely think about getting this book that provides a good deal of entertainment within its pages.

There are many different kinds of activities in here, beginning with a map to (literally) map out the trip. The old fashioned license plate game comes up next followed by street sign (and some other) bingo games. From there, move on to riddles, word searches, codes, mazes and more. Throughout this book is filled with colorful illustrations.

So…pack some pencils and see if your child can complete some of these challenges while en route. They offer some good diversion.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Callisto Kids for this title. All opinions are my own.

This is very much aimed at an American audience however I think for other countries you could just change to what suits. Some very good ideas in this book some of which I would personally use.

Thank you Netgalley & the publisher for allowing me an advance copy of this book.

Although this book is clearly aimed at the USA market, it is a very nice selection of activities to stop kids just staring at a screen on a long journey. Obviously, as we are in the UK, there were many pages that we had to skip but there are 8 options for each activity so there was plenty to keep us entertained.
It was well set out with clear chapters and colourful pages - perfect for in the car or on public transport. The riddles were mostly ones we hadn't heard before, although I would have prefered the answers to be a bit more accessible. We also liked the the letter codes and word searches, they were enough to keep our brains busy without being too demanding. Other chapters include silly stories, scavenger hunts and probably our favourite - would you rathers.
The travel journal was also a really nice touch because normally I would buy a separate one of these. There was plenty of space for drawings and some really interesting prompts.
Overall, this was a thoughtful addition to the travel activities books for kids and I would definitely be interested in a UK version of these book.

This used to have 75 things in, but has been rejigged somewhat to make it more of a round number. We start with several grids of things to be treated like bingo cards – people, traffic signs, coloured vehicles, etc, and then find pages of punning riddles. Word searches follow, then coded phrases to decipher. After those we have a spread of prompts for journaling and recording our trip in words and image, then mazes. Lots of 'would you rather...'s turn up next, then frames for those stories we add words to one at a time to get a bonkers bit of narrative, and to close it's a sort of I-Spy game, with different points for the first spotting of one of a spread of different things. On the whole it's well themed around travel and vacations, if it might at times have been more so, and it's a colourful way to get someone off-grid and entertained on the journey. It is very much USA-only, as the map with the states and the collection of number plates for us to complete that start things off prove, but that market is pretty well served, and this could definitely be recommended.
