I appreciate the kit! This kit is super informative - love the interview - and great for use in a book club.

Reading through this book club kit was almost as much fun as reading a Chritina Lauren novel. I especially liked the Road Trip "this or that" game and think most book clubs would enjoy the playful attitude of both the book and the guide.
It's often hard to discuss traditional rom com's as most people consider them formulaic. A reimagined fairy tale could present the same issues, but with book clug kits like this, the discussion would be a joy!

Such a good resource! I used it with the book club that I am in and was so happy with the results. It encouraged everyone to share how they felt about the book and also encouraged us all to think of it in a new light.

Review: Book Club Kit

I must say, it exceeded all my expectations. Every page of this kit is both useful and insightful, making it an invaluable resource for any book club.

One of the highlights for me was the printable bookmarks. They are not only beautifully designed but also add a personal touch to our reading experience.

The "This or That" game included in the kit was an absolute delight. It’s a fantastic way to break the ice and get everyone engaged.

The discussion questions are very cool to have as well. They are thoughtfully crafted, prompting deeper conversations and helping us to explore the book from different perspectives. Having these questions at hand really enriched our discussion and made our meeting more meaningful.

Overall, this Book Club Kit is a gem. It’s packed with creative and engaging tools that enhance the book club experience. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to add some extra flair and depth to their book discussions. Thank you, NetGalley, for providing such a fantastic resource!

Personally i didnt use the kit as I thought it was the book but regardless the vibes were there.

Thank you for sharing this book club kit with me. I found the kit to be beautifully designed. The colors used in the kit were eye-catching and the font was easy to read. I liked that the kit included a picture of the cover of the book, a table of contents. I think the "Note to Readers" section was helpful.

The author interview and the discussion questions were excellent additions to include in the book club kit. Many times I research author interview prior to book club so it is great to receive it in the kit. I think the "discussion questions" are essential in any book club kit. I think it was important to include questions comparing the story to the original Disney "Tangled" and the contemporary fan fiction as well as questions that are specific to the contemporary fan fiction novel because not everyone may be familiar with the movie "Tangled."

The printable bookmarks were a great addition to the kit. I'm always in need of a bookmark and I love that it was included in the kit.

The cocktails and book club bites were easy enough to prepare and a nice touch for book club hosts. However, I'm do not think my book club would be interested in crafting flower crowns. I don't think it is necessary to include in the kit.

I always love book suggestions - so the "what to read next" and "more from Hyperion avenue" are great inclusions.

Thanks for seeking my review. Good luck with the launch

Lisa

Tangled Up in You is a retelling of Disney’s Tangled and is the fourth book in the Meant to Be series. Each book in this series highlights a different Disney version of a fairytale, all by different authors, so you do not have to read them in order. I have really enjoyed other books by Christina Lauren and I love a good retelling so I was eager to pick this up. Also there is a book club kit on Netgalley and I thought it would be fun to read this with a few people with the kit.

Ren grew up homeschooled on a homestead out in the middle of nowhere. Most of her friends are the animals she takes care of on the homestead with a few interactions with the people in the town. She is twenty-two now and wants desperately to go to college and learn more. With great reluctance, her parents let her with the caveat that they will pick her up on Friday’s after class and drop her back off on Sundays. They have all kinds of rules too for while she is on campus, so she isn’t highjacked by the modern world. But finally she is free! It is all going really well until a class project that tests your DNA indicated the man she has known as her father isn’t and another man states away is at least her biological father.

Fritz projects the facade of a rich playboy to all of his classmates. With a complicated relationship with his rich father, he is at school for one thing only. He will get a degree in Law and then go one to destroy his father, the man who has made him miserable most of this teen life after he was adopted for some good press. When he meets Ren, he can’t believe her. She doesn’t have a phone, she didn’t fall for his charm and she is throwing off every curve as she decimates every test in the classes they share. The last thing he wanted to do was spend more time with her. But when she catches him in a compromising position, Ren bargains to join him on a road trip so she can meet the man that might be her father.

On an adventure across the country, they find that maybe they aren’t so different and possibly they might just be what the other needs in their life. This was a completely cute retelling and I adored Ren throughout the story. Fritz, did take a little longer to warm up to but once we learn of his past and issues with his father it was easy to cut him a little slack and grow to like him too. Especially after Ren learns her true history, he is fantastic while being patient and helping her come to terms with, well her entire life.

I want to say that I appreciate how this book dealt with the grief Ren felt after learning the truth of her life. They are some really complicated feelings that weren’t just happily ever aftered away. Which was perfect for this modern day retelling. Because honestly what would you do today if you learned your entire life was a lie and you were basically held prisoner in a prison you didn’t know existed? Very well handled.

The book club kit comes with a few bookmarks you can print out, a few recipes for both drinks and snacks, an interview with the author and some questions to assist with the discussions. Things like what makes a good retelling and discussions on the forced proximately trope. I think if you are in a standing book club with a few people this good to help set the tone and stoke some conversations. The few people I read this with, we discussed most of it online but I could see how this would be a lot of fun in person. There is also an activity to make a flower crown, which could be a lot of fun if you run a book club that meets in person.

Narration:
Patti Murin, Eunice Wong and Andrew Gibson narrate the story. I love it when we get different voices for most of the characters as I feel like it adds to the depth of the storytelling. All of them brought their main character to life. Their timing and diction matched up well in the story and made sure the pacing felt right for the characters as we go through all of their experiences. I really enjoyed the story more because of the narration. I was able to listen at my normal 1.5x speed.

Book 4 in the Meant to Be series. A contemporary fairy tale that’s a brilliant reimagination of Disney’s Tangled. A great read!

The is a wonderful book club kit. I loved how there was information from the author about the book. The print able bookmarks were nice to have. I absolutely loved the drink and snack recommendations to represent the characters. I would definitely serve them at my book club. I also thought the recommendations for the next read was perfectly picked out.

I didn’t receive this arc. But I got the book club kit
I can’t write 100 words off of the kit but I would be happy to review for you all at some point.

I really like a lot of the inclusions in the book club kit, but admittedly was hoping that I would receive a way to get a digital download of the book to share with my book club since it was on NetGalley. I would have even changed one of our predetermined monthly books to do it, so I’d love the consideration to provide ARCs to book clubs for promotional purposes.

The only other constructive criticism I have is that the bookmark idea is super cute but I’m a full time working mom running a book club and would have absolutely paid a little extra for formal bookmarks to be purchased and sent to me to distribute to my book club. This would be a nice value add (that could lead to extra revenue) for busy book club leaders like me

First, Thank you to We Are Bookish for the Book Club kit to review!

This is my next months book club pick and this kit is a major reason why. I've been trying to get my club to be more engaged and really FEEL the books we are reading and this is the perfect start. The content is surprisingly engaging and a really nice way to switch up our agenda.

The drink and food recipes will be so much fun to switch things up and it is SO nice that the drink options are fairly easy to swap with non-alcohol options. The bookmarks were a really cute touch to get everyone started and I know everyone will enjoy all the extended content.

I will definitely be looking into more of these types of book club kits!
