Thank you to NetGalley, Daniel Hurst and Bookoture for the ARC. I’ve read many books from this author including the 1st book in this series. I felt like it continued on perfectly from the first book. The characters remained the same and were developed further. I found it very slow at the beginning but picked up towards the middle. The ending fell a bit short for me and I found there was a few plot holes that needed to be tied together. I think there’s potential for more in this series. I’m giving it three stars because as usual, I find that this author has too many great ideas and doesn’t completely follow through on them. This author has incredible potential and I’m looking forward to reading more.
This was so good! A great 2nd part to Darcy and Pippa’s story! I love these characters and the writing is great. This is definitely a book to read! In this second instalment we pick up where the family left off and follow Darcy as she navigates life not knowing anything about her life!
I recommend this book! Daniel Hurst knows how to write an interesting story!
I have mixed feelings about this second book. I liked the first one more but it doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy and eat this one up.
This book is full of over the top twists and turns and definitely a popcorn thriller, and I genuinely want to figure out what’s going to happen with Darcy and Pippa at the end.
The last chapter ended kind of fast and abruptly, not everything was explained so I hope that means we’re getting a third book.

Thank you Daniel Hurst, Bookouture & NetGalley for an e-ARC copy.

I've concluded that this series is somewhat different from Daniel's regular writing. I enjoyed both books. Darcy and Pippa are a great sister duo, and their personal struggles sometimes drive them to make harsh decisions. The story is told from both Darcy's and Pippa's POV which was a nice surprise to delve into Pippa's personal life a little more than what we were offered in book one. Unlike book one, the pace of book two is a bit slower and quite repetitive at times. I felt it needed to 'get to the point already' a few times while flipping the pages. The ending had me and if I were to guess, Daniel has a third book in mind - we're not quite done with Darcy's adventures!
I've gone through many of Daniel Hurst's books on audio and loved them all! He is great at spinning twisty and fast-paced stories, but 'one of these things is not like the others' and this series was a touch disappointing. I did however enjoy the deep dive into Darcy's and Pippa's thoughts and feel like I just know them now on a more personal level.
Many thanks to the author, Bookouture and NetGalley for the advanced copy for an honest review
How far would you go to protect your family?? Pippa sent Darcy to Florida to keep her safe. Meanwhile, the Miller family faces new threats at home, forcing Pippa to take drastic measures. And, is Darcy really safe?? This is the second book in the series and it kept me on the edge of my seat! I can’t wait for the next installment! Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for this great ARC!
Nurse...mother...wife...killer...?
Now THIS is more like it! After struggling through the first book "The Perfect Nurse" (which was anything but perfect), I dived into this second book with higher hopes...and I'm thrilled to say I was not disappointed. This is more like the Daniel Hurst I've come to know and love. The fast pace, the thrill-ride-a-minute, the twists...I'm happy to say I thoroughly enjoyed this one that I easily finished it within a few hours.
A few chapters into this one, I then realised what was missing from the first book that found it lacking. Most of Hurst's thrillers (in fact all of those I've read I believe) have unfolded through various perspectives of those involved - sometimes two, sometimes many more. But it's that aspect that keeps the story fresh and the pace moving at a rapid rate. But the first book was told solely through Darcy's eyes which thus made it slow moving and uninteresting. Then in this one, Pippa's perspective is introduced, changing things up a bit and keeping the pace moving at a rapid rate. Thus, this second book was far better than the first.
Now, firstly I must add that you need to read book one before delving into this one as it throws a ton of spoilers from the first book your way throughout. Should you decide to read this one, then I really wouldn't bother with the first one as this one gives enough backstory and is far more interesting to keep you engaged.
The story picks up a few months after the first book left off, seeing Darcy in the sunnier climes of Florida. With her are a few meagre possessions, most importantly a notebook Pippa put together for her with photos of their parents and herself along with their names and their relationship to her, as well as a letter explaining everything with two very important instructions for her - never watch the news and never come home.
It has been three months since Darcy left Chicago, and with her retrograde amnesia, anything that happened beyond two weeks has been completely wiped from her memory unless she has constant reminders to keep those memories fresh and alive. Hence, the notebook Pippa put together for her instructing her to read it every day...so Darcy will remember them. But beyond that, she has no recollection of anything.
So when she's given the job of caring for a man with early dementia, Darcy feels like she was born for this role. Maybe that's why his son Parker chose her because he could see that in her as well. Her first introduction with Joe, Parker's father, is somewhat shaky when Joe comes across as brash and blunt. And it isn't long before he sees something in Darcy...that maybe she has a secret from which she's running. For someone with dementia, Joe is certainly very astute. But then he is only in the early stages so he hasn't completely lost his marbles yet.
And then Joe says something that gives Darcy reason to pause and wonder if she should really be here. Joe lets slip that she's not the only one with secrets here. And that she could be in danger if she doesn't leave...
Meanwhile, things are hotting up in Chicago when someone comes looking for Darcy. Pippa uses all her resources to dissuade the person from their mission...but it only ends in disaster. Now Pippa has an even bigger mess to clean up and her parents are demanding that Darcy return home. Pippa tries to put them off citing she doesn't know where she is but they don't believe her. She's a nurse, a mother, a wife...not a killer. How did her life become this?
The worlds between Darcy and Pippa's are on a collision course but will they collide with each other? Or something or someone else?
As I said at the beginning, this second book is so much better than the first (which is unusual because sequels usually aren't as good). So much so that you could not bother with the first one as this one gives you enough backstory anyway. Though the first one does give more of Darcy's story and how she came to have such a debilitating condition and why. If not for that, I would say don't bother with the first book and go straight to this one.
I much prefer the format of different perspectives. It keeps the pace moving and the story fresh, surprising the reader along the way. Sure, there are some eye-rolling moments in which you need to suspend belief but none of that matters in this one because the equilibrium that makes a Hurst thriller is back on track with the entertainment factor to keep us enthralled from the very first page.
I look forward to the third book "The Nurse's Mistake" coming in November, where we pick up Darcy and Pippa's story to see where it leads us. Let's hope that's not a mistake and is just as thrilling as this one has been.
I would like to thank #DanielHurst, #Netgalley and #Bookouture for an ARC of #TheNursesLie in exchange for an honest review.

This is the squeal to The Perfect Nurse. This is a quick thriller that leaves you wanting more. There are more twists and lies that will make you binge this book. If you enjoyed the first book then you will definitely have a good time with the second one.
Spoilers!
This is the sequel to The Perfect Nurse. Darcy relocates to Florida after killing someone. She is hired to take care of an elderly man and this is where things take a turn. This isn't just Dacry's POV but we also get Pippa's POV. Her life took a turn as well when she helped her sister and now she has decided how to protect her family.
I did enjoy the first book so I was eager to read the second one. It's definitely a page-turner and leaves you wanting more. This was a quick read and the last few chapters were a wild ride.
I did have some issues with the book. What didn't make sense was how Darcy was able to adjust in Florida all by herself while in the first book, her family basically watched her every move. Also, I feel like there were some plot holes and some scenes felt unrealistic to me. Her sister just moved her to Florida without further context and she started a job. It was hard for me to picture that as Darcy has memory issues and I feel that would be a hard thing to adjust to knowing you are still trying to figure out things and you are in a new city and no one to help you. Pippa's story was interesting. We see her make certain decisions all for her to protect her loved ones.
Overall, I did have fun with this book. Towards the end of the book, I was hooked to see what was going to happen next! I'm eager to read the next installments and see where the story goes.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the digital ARC. All opinions and reviews are mine.
Ok so this is the 44th Daniel Hurst book I have read and as with all the others I enjoyed it immensely. A gripping can't put it down book read in a day and hopefully this will not be the last book in 'The Perfect Nurse' series. Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the chance to ARC this book.
I was fairly excited to read this sequel. I enjoyed reading the Perfect Nurse but I wasn’t sure that it really needed a sequel. I also get nervous about reading series released so close together.
I just felt like this one wasn’t as well executed as the first in the series. The pacing was much slower and felt a little sloppy to me on Pippa’s POV especially. I also just wasn’t as interested in Pippa as I was Darcy. The ending just felt like it was so abrupt. I’m not really on the edge of my seat dying to know what’s going to happen next.
It was a fast paced book and easy to read.
As with every Danie Hurst book that I have read this book was a twisty and dark read that kept me hooked until the very end.
Wow another amazing book from Daniel Hurst. I don't know how he manages to keep up such a high standard across so many books. This is the follow up to The Perfect Nurse. The Perfect Follow up! I can't say what happens as it would give too much away. The story has kept me on the edge of my seat wondering what will happen next. The characters are developing apace and regardless of what they may or may not have done previously, we want them to survive the end of the book in one piece and happy.
Again the ending is a surprise and the whole story keeps you guessing what may happen next. I don't know if there will be another sequel but I can't see where the story can go now although the ending does seem to point to a possible follow up. Thoroughly enjoyed the story and would recommend to any one. With thanks to Netgalley, Bookouture and the author for this advanced copy to review.
I absolutely loved The Perfect Nurse and was so excited at the prospect of reading the second book in the series. However, I was disappointed with this sequel that failed to deliver the tension, surprises and twists of the first. I felt that Darcy and Pippa made some very strange and unrealistic choices and many of the situations were quite unbelievable. I really wanted, and expected to love this as much as I've loved the author's previous work but sadly, this just didn't grab me. I will, nevertheless, look out for Daniel's future books based on past and very positive experiences as this may just be wrong book, wrong time for me. My thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Daniel Hurst is one of my favorite authors and he didn’t fall short with The Nurses Lie. This book is the sequel to The Perfect Nurse. Darcy & Pippa are back, continuing to try to hide their secrets as they dig themselves deeper. An undeniable twist will have your jaw dropping to the floor.
Although Daniel Hurst has the popcorn thriller style, he never fails to pull emotions from the reader. He always delivers a fast paced, can’t turn the pages fast enough, what in the world is going on story.
I thought the first book was good but this one was even better!! I can’t believe how many twists are going on. So many secrets and lies in a family full of love.
I didn’t like how it ended but only because I need MORE asap 🤣
This is book 2 in a series. It's actually two stories in one. Darcy has amnesia and has relocated to Florida with her diary close at hand. It reminds her of who she is and important information she needs in case of emergency. Pippa's story is that she's trying to be a good wife, mother and daughter but she's keeping secrets. The book is a real page turner and keeps you on the edge of your seat. You try to figure out what will happen next but in true Daniel Hurst form you can't even imagine what the next twist will be. It's a quick and enjoyable read with an open ending leading one to believe there will be a book 3 on the horizon.

Thankyou to @netgalley for the advanced reader copy! 🥰
I’ve become a massive fan of Daniel Hurst after reading a few of his books. They’re all really quick, and easy reads that have you hooked. I loved the Perfect Nurse and was so excited to get this ARC, but something in it was just lacking. I enjoyed the storyline but I wanted more of Darcy and the impact everything had been on her but I felt a bit disappointed the main focus was on her family. This also meant that when things did get a bit tense with Darcy that it just didn’t seem as thrilling. I have a feeling there will be a third and it will be insane!

This is the second book in the Perfect Nurse series and we see Darcy return who is hiding a long way away from her family. It is here where she takes a job from Parker caring for his dad Joe who has dementia. Joe has some warnings for Darcy however. Sister Pippa meanwhile is hiding a secret and is terrified she will be caught out.
It was good to follow on from the first book in this series, although I personally preferred the initial one. I feel the first one needs to be read to understand what is going on as it may be confusing otherwise. The story twists and turns with plenty of secrets and drama to uncover. Saying that, I found that I just couldn’t fully engage in the story and it lacked a certain substance. The ending is very sudden but certainly leaves the reader anticipating the next book. This was a decent book overall but I feel that it wasn’t a wow one. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this copy in return for an honest review.
My thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘The Nurse’s Lie’, book 2 in The Perfect Nurse series written by Daniel Hurst, in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
Darcy is working in a café and is attracted to a customer called Parker, and when he offers her a job caring for his elderly father Joe she accepts as she could do with the money. Since being in a car crash Darcy has no memory of the past and has to look at photos of her sister Pippa and parents every day or she’d forget them. While sitting with Joe watching the news on television she recognises the photo of a man who’s missing. It’s the same man who regularly features in her nightmares but she can’t remember who he is.
‘The Nurse’s Lie’ is a psychological thriller that’s told from the viewpoints of sisters Darcy and Pippa. The plot is intricately woven with lots of suspense, drama and twists and turns, and the further I got into the story the more entrenched they became in this man and his disappearance. It’s an exciting thriller that’s had me gripped from the first page to the last and although crazily far-fetched at times with Pippa making some unusual decisions, it’s so addictive that it had me reading well into the night as I had to know what was going to happen to them. The final chapters have left us with a cliffhanger so I’m looking forward to reading how the story progresses in book three.
The Perfect Nurse #2
Only a few months ago, my life was simple. I spent most of my time caring for patients in brightly lit hospital wards. Then I'd pick my son up from Kindergarten before cooking a meal for my husband. I'd drink in every precious moment with them, Now, everything has changed. I don't recognise the woman I've become. I'm a liar. Nurses are supposed to take lives. Instead, I helped take one. I did it to protect my family. No one can find out what I've done, because I'd lose everything: my marriage, my gorgeous little boy - even my life. Then one day I step through the front door to find a woman with long blonde hair and perfect teeth in my family home. My heart pounds in my chest. We used to work at the same hospital. She's the only one who knows my biggest secret and my darkest lie. It's clear she's back for revenge. But she's underestimated me, I'll do whatever it takes to keep my loved ones safe.
Book two in The Perfect Nurse series, and it's good to be back with Darcy and Pippa again. Darcy is still trying to overcome the debilitating memory loss she has had after an accident. She can only remember what has happened t in the last two weeks, then the memories are gone forever, She has a new job, caring for an elderly gentleman with onset dementia. Pippa and her parents are dealing with the aftermath, but nothing is plain sailing for any of them.
This is a quick and easy book to read. It's filled with twists, lies and secrets. At first, I did not know where this story was taking me, as at the beginning, everything seemed to be flowing along nicely for everyone. The story picks up where The Perfect Nurse left off. But eventually the past catches up and everyone is not safe. This is a dark and twisted read. The only thing now is, how long will we have to wait for book three so that we get closure, one way or another.

Another good thriller by Daniel Hurst! I enjoyed having the POV from both sisters in this book! This book had me in suspense with a cliffhanger at the end of each chapter! Can't wait for what's next to come in the series!
