Daniel Hurst is a favorite of mine! I did enjoy the twists and turns in the plot, but as a former nurse will say that reading when having a medical background you are a bit more nit-picky about the details. Truly entertaining though.
He does it again yet another thriller that will keep you up all night because you must know what happens. I loved this story about a young woman who is suffering from memory issues and takes a job helping to care for an old man who also has memory issues and his handsome son but is everything as it seems and what secrets has she forgotten and is her past darker than she thinks? It’s a great read and not to be missed!
Having read the first book in the Nurses series I was so excited to read The second book The Nurses Lie, but it didn't grip like like it did the first book, I found myself flicking through to get to the end.
I was very excited to get an ARC of The Nurse’s Lie which is book number two to The Perfect Nurse. Darcy is now safe thanks to her sister but far away from home. She was given a notebook with her family’s name written on it along with two instructions from her sister. Don’t return home and don’t watch the news. Darcy starts working for a man named Parker. She was hired to take care of his dad, Joe. Something is definitely off about Parker. Can he be trusted? Darcy knows she has to do some digging. Back at home, her sister Pippa is doing everything she can to keep her family safe but with a secret out, they aren’t very safe anymore. Does she take it to the extreme to keep her family safe? This was an intense psychological thriller which had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. I was shocked by the ending and I’m really hoping there will be another book in the series! Daniel’s books are truly the best. I love his writing and how he always keeps his books so interesting. I’m definitely looking forward to reading more of his books. Thank you Daniel, Bookouture and NetGalley for the ARC!
I hadn't read the first in the series (but will be going back to do so!) and wasn't sure what to expect with The Nurse's Lie. Like Daniel Hurst's other books - this was a punchy, action packed thriller with a few twists and turns and a lot of excitement.
I loved the contrasting chapters between sisters, Darcy and Pippa - Darcy with amnesia and Pippa trying to keep her family together following what appears to be quite the drama.
I could easily follow along, despite having not read the first book so this can work as a standalone but think fresh off the back of the first book would really add to it. The ending makes me very hopeful for a third - I think series are where Daniel shines. I loved the Doctor's Wife series.
This was fast paced, exciting, some decent twists, and some family drama. A solid 4 stars,
This is Book 2 in The Perfect Nurse Series. I found this book to be even more action-packed than Book 1. It's a thrilling story that plunges the reader into the chaotic and morally ambiguous world of a woman torn between her professional duty and the instinct to protect her family at all costs. The novel masterfully explores themes of guilt, deception, and survival.
We are once again immersed in the lives of Darcy and Pippa. Darcy is now in Florida, still dealing with amnesia, while Pippa remains at home, grappling with the aftermath of their shared past. (I don't want to give anything away).
This book had me on the edge of my seat, eagerly anticipating what would happen next. I thoroughly enjoyed everything it had to offer.
Much like The Doctor's Wife series, I was addicted to this series and am hoping for a Book 3. I need a Book 3!
The Perfect Nurse series continues with The Nurses Lie which captivated me with its gripping storyline and complex characters.
In this second installment, we follow Darcy's journey as she grapples with amnesia and the weight of a past crime, leading her to start anew in Florida. Taking on a caretaking role for an elderly man in the early stages of dementia, she becomes entangled in a web of mystery and intrigue when she is hired by his enigmatic son. As Darcy navigates her new responsibilities, she is faced with cryptic warnings from the elderly man about his son, forcing her to question the true intentions behind these ominous messages. The tension mounts as she delves deeper into the family's secrets, unsure of who to trust and what dangers lie ahead.
Darcy's sister, Pippa, who had aided in concealing a shared secret, finds herself alienated from her loved ones as suspicions linger. The arrival of a figure from Darcy's past sets off a chain of events that threaten to expose long-buried truths, raising the stakes for both sisters.
This book was brilliant and was a thrilling ride filled with tension and suspense and I was gripped throughout. I feel it was left on a cliffhanger ending that left me yearning for more. I really hope Daniel has a 3rd book planned because I need to know what happens next!
Daniel Hurst, you did it again! This was an engaging and quick read, and in line with what we knew about the characters to a certain degree. A few surprises sprinkled in a a few new characters as well! I was speeding through the last few chapters and wanting to see what happened next and... The book ended!! Way to tease your readers, Daniel Hurst!! I need book 3 now!!!
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this advanced copy. The second book in this series, and it didn’t disappoint!!! Kept me on edge the entire time! I don’t know how Daniel Hurst does it, but I need a book 3 for this one please!!! Thrilling ride and edge of seat thriller.
Darcy has found a new job as a nurse, caring for Joe, Parker's aging father. Joe sometimes has memory loss, just like Darcy, and he sometimes say very concerning things about his son. Is he correct or is it the confusion speaking? Meanwhile, Pippa, Darcy's sister, is struggling to keep her sister's secret from their family and her husband. But the truth always finds a way to seep out...
This psychological thriller is book 2 in the Perfect Nurse trilogy, and you have to read book 1 before this one, otherwise 1-you might have a hard time following and 2-things will be spoiled. You have to be willing to suspend disbelief on this one, it is a bit over the top, but it was faster paced than book 1 and presented way less foreshadowing, both of which I appreciated. It was nice to already have book 2 on hand after book one, which is pretty unresolved, and I wish I already had book 3 so I couls just keep on going, because things are still left hanging a bit.
I received an advance review copy of this book for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This was the second book in the Nurse series, and while I did enjoy it, it didn't quite grip me as much as the first book did. The ending leads me to believe that more books will follow, and I do look forward to reading more. I enjoy everything I read from this author, and do recommend his books!
Name of Book: The Nurse’s Lie
Series: The Perfect Nurse #2
Author: Daniel Hurst
Genre: Psychological/Thriller
Publisher: Bookouture
Pub Date: August 1, 2024
My Rating: 3.5 Stars
Pages: 266
We were introduced to Darcy –just a few months ago in "The Perfect Nurse".
Darcy was once a dedicated nurse however was in an accident which left her with memory issues. With the help of her sister Pippa has relocated from the Chicago suburbs to Florida. The hope is to escape the mistake from her past. However, she honestly doesn’t remember what she has done. Pippa is also a nurse, married and has a four-year old son and knows very well what Darcy did.
(If you didn’t read Book #1 or need a refresher as to what happened in the first book- here are my notes.)
Pippa is also a nurse and tells us that Darcy was in an accident which left her with ‘retrograde amnesia’. Darcy remembers nothing before the accident and has difficulty with long term memories.
Adrian and Scarlett are actually her parents and Pippa is her sister. (This was revealed in Book #1 and I was delighted Pippa refreshed my short term memory.)
Additionally Darcy became romantic involved with a man named Laurence whose wife Melissa was suffering with cancer. He wants Darcy as Melissa’s nurse to end her life so that they can be together. She refused so he does the killing. Then Darcy finds out he was having an affair with Eden her best friend. Additionally he and Eden want to get rid of Darcy – however Darcy kills Laurence in self –defense. Pippa fears no one will believe a woman who has memory loss so she helps her sister dispose of his body.
Darcy of course does not remember any of this – Pippa worries Laurence’s body will resurface.
Okay ~ Now back to this story ~
Eden shows up at Pippa’s and threatens to tell the police what happened to Laurence.
(Since this is a Hurst thriller I know to expect something ridicules!)
Meanwhile in Florida Darcy gets a job caring for Joe an elder man. She was hired by his son Parker. Parker states he doesn’t have the money to put his dad in a care facility. Joe lives in a beautiful apartment but he also has memory issue. He does care for Darcy and tells her Parker has secrets that she as well as his girlfriend Irene are in danger.
This is my nineteenth Daniel Hurst thriller.
Yep I am a fan.
Hurst is an entertaining writer although IMO this wasn’t one of his best nor my favorites, the ending indicates book #3 - So yes I am looking forward to next in this series and more secrets from Darcy’s past!!!!
As always Hurst and his psycho characters (I have used this term before but seems to cover most of his characters) had me curious.
Want to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for this early e-Galley.
Publishing Release Date scheduled for August 1, 2024.
Thank you to Daniel Hurst, Bookouture, and NetGalley for an arc of this novel in exchange for my honest option.
This is the second book in the nurse's series, so if you haven't read The Perfect Nurse, go ahead and do that now before starting this one or else you'll be very confused as to the characters and their backstories. This book picks up where The Perfect Nurse left off and it follows Darcy, Pippa, Scarlett, Adrian, and a few new characters that come onto the scene. I find sometimes that sequels are hit or miss, but this one was even better than the first. It has all the perfect elements of lies, deception, family secrets, and even a murder...or two....or maybe even more. You'll have to read to find out. There's not a lot that can be said about the plot or the individual characters without giving away spoilers for the first book and this book as well, but it is a Hurst classic that will take you on a on a wild journey and make you think- how far would you go to protect your family?! The tension is high and the stakes are higher! I would recommend this book to anyone and everyone looking for a quick and fun thriller with enough twists to give you whiplash! This book publishes August 1, 2024 and needs to be on everyone's TBR.
The Nurse's Lie ramps up the tension in the continuing series of The Perfect Nurse.
Darcy by chance has a new job and is looking after an elderly man Joe.
His son Parker hired her .
Neighbours and his dad tell her be aware of Parke , he is dangerous.
Pippa, her Dad and Mom are missing Darcy.
Pippa is trying to live with her actions and things are snowballing.
The pages fly by, the tension mounts and I was cringing for all of them
Daniel Hurst leaves you wanting the next book in the series by tomorrow.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for another pulse pounding read.
Daniel is one of my favourite authors and this book, 2nd in a series didn’t disappoint. You could read it as a stand alone as it’s written well enough to fill in the back story without rewriting it. Lots of tension with twists and turns, loved it!
This book is the next in The Perfect Nurse series and another fabulous addition it is. I do think it can be read as a stand-a-lone though. Lots of twists and turns and lots of secrets to be had. What Daniel does best!! Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this early release in exchange for my honest review. To be published August 1, 2024. Be sure to grab it!
The second book in the series but just as good as the first. Likeable characters as well as those you love to hate. Fast paced with many surprises along the way. The only negative I have is that it ends on a cliffhanger and now I don’t know how long I need to wait for the next book.
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC.

Thank you so much to NetGalley, Bookouture, and the author, Daniel Hurst, for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest and fair review.
I have read a lot of books by Daniel Hurst and The Nurse's Lie which is the follow up to The Perfect Nurse is a great continuation to what seems will be a series.
Many twists, turns and a story full of lies and secrets from the first page all the way through to the last page. I can't wait for the 3rd book as this is a definite recommend
Thanks Bookouture and Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own and isn't influenced by anyone else
Darcy has memory problems. She knows this because she cannot retain memories for more than a few weeks before they fade. Amongst her few possessions she has a notebook with photographs and names in it, these people are supposedly her family. The notebook also contains two definite instructions.....do not watch the news, and do not return home, and there is an address of where home apparently is.
Darcy follows the instructions because she is afraid of what she might find out if she doesn't. She is given a job by a man she meets, who asks her to help him care for his father, who has dementia. Darcy agrees, but while sitting with him one day, he has the news on TV, and Darcy sees it!
This is a roller coaster read, I couldn't put it down. The plot gripped and drew me in, so I couldn't wait to see what happened next. 5 stars.
