Immediately turned off from the animal abuse in chapter one. I'm sad because I heard rave reviews. It's hard for me to push through after that.

I enjoyed this book. Twins Corinthia and Ben embrace the dark side. The story mainly takes place in rural Pennsylvania near a University. This book has twists and turns that I never saw coming! This is a compelling debut novel and I look forward to reading more from Aliah Wright.

👫🏼NOW YOU OWE ME by Aliah Wright
Thank you Red Hen Press & Aliah Wright for the gifted physical & digital copy!

Seven year old twins Ben and his sister Corinthia, witness their father kill someone violently. This pivotal event sets them down a path of strange predilections which include kidnapping and murdering women.

Twins have a close bond right? Well imagine twins who are deranged, disturbing and a little disgusting but also mesmerizing. They’re remorseful and don’t like the compulsions they have, but can’t seem to stop! Ben and Corinthia were as compelling as they were repulsive. At times I even felt sorry for them. It’s like not being able to look away from a speeding train about to crash. The pacing was simply perfection as the twins age from seven to twenty-four and vow to take one last victim...

You might need to suspend some disbelief but for me these are THE BEST kind of tales. It doesn’t happen often, so I love it when I can’t predict what will happen next because it’s just that out there! Aliah Wright has written a gripping story that is dark and twisted with bits of humor, heart and just the right amount of social commentary. It borders on psychological horror with characters you can’t look away from. Amanda is a force to be reckoned with and I loved her moxie! Who is Amanda? You’ll have to read to find out! There is graphic content, but it’s not overdone or exaggerated, however some animal cruelty/harm is included.

NOW YOU OWE ME has truly blown me away! I was pleased as punch to ride this depraved crazy train until the last stop and even then I didn’t want to get off! Though wrapped up beautifully, don’t expect any neat and tidy endings here. I’m hoping for another book and guess what? There will be!! Aliah Wright totally kills her debut! (Pun intended?) I need MORE of these captivatingly lethal twins. Bring on book two!

This was a quick read albeit a rather difficult one. There were a couple of times near the beginning of the story where I didn't think I would actually be able to finish. While the book itself is well-written, there were definitely aspects of it that were hard to stomach (i.e. animal cruelty, graphic descriptions of murder, etc.)

The plot wound its way through several jaw-dropping twists that I didn't see coming, so I appreciated the nuances of the terrifying storyline. But I also have to say, I found all the brand-name-dropping rather distracting throughout; the author was likely trying to conjure a feeling of setting, but I felt like all the descriptions of designer items - shoes, clothing, jewelry, whatnot - were a weird diversion from the actual core of the plot and not at all necessary.

Overall I enjoyed the story, but had a hard time reading through certain sections, so please be forewarned. It was generally a lot more graphic than I was expecting.

Thanks to NetGalley, author Aliah Wright, and Red Hen Press for giving me a digital advanced readers copy of this book for free to read. All opinions are my own and are provided voluntarily.

The concept of this book was we followed a set of twins that when they were little witnessed their father kill someone and it really messed with them and their psyche as they were growing up. Fast forward to years later and they are going on a killing spree for very strange reasons and they end up taking one last victim and they realize that they may have bit off more they can chew.As the aftermath happens, let me tell you this book was full of twists and turns and amazing storytelling and craziness that was going on and really delving into the psyche of why these twins were doing what they were doing and also into the victims as they were unfortunately part of this killing spree you are not going to want to put this down this one comes out.

Wow, the characters and the story telling really pull you into this book. The plot is completely immersive with an overpowering feeling of both love and resilience, A really thoughtproving book that I needed to talk about to other people who had read it. I really enjoyed this book and am looking forward to reading subsequent books. As a debut I thought this was superb.

This is very poorly written. The characters are intolerable. They do not change at all from the time they’re children to adulthood. They just keep behaving like children. They have the same arguments repeatedly and it’s annoying.

This is a serial killer thriller that is meticulously structured. This allows it to be both compact (244 pages) and expansive in what the story covered. The plot keeps the reader guessing about how things will resolve. The characters are well developed. It is worth knowing that the violence is graphically described. It would make a a fantastic mini-series.

Thank you Red Hen Press, Aliah Wright, and Goodreads for the advanced reader copy in exchange for a review.

A complete mind boggling story about twins who are also murders that grew up in a very rough upbringing which could have lead to them being who they are. As I read it I felt like I totally knew what to expect and then the twist hit and I was completely shocked. Not only did the twist get me but it doesn’t stop there.

Thank you, Red Hen Press for the copy of Now You Owe Me by Aliah Wright. Despite the description, this book was not for me. Murderous kids are not my cup of tea, and the descriptions of what they did as adults was a total yuck.I liked the idea of the story, especially if you’re open to the more horror side of thrillers, but for some reason the execution wasn’t very compelling. Many reviewers raved about it though, so maybe it’s for you. 2.5 stars rounded up to 3.

Thanks to Red Hen Press and NetGalley for this copy of "Now You Owe Me.

Debut author Wright unveils a suspenseful thriller featuring disturbed twins who become warped by their dysfunctional parents.

Ben and Corinthia, the twins, are devoted to each other. Ben is compelled to kidnap young white women yet Corinthia kills them so the twins can't be identified.

Just as their bickering over the kidnappings starts to get annoying, they abduct a woman with a very determined Black friend who does some investigating of her own.

A shocking ending ties together all the small details and clues that author Wright tied into the plot. I definitely had to go back and read some earlier parts again to see how cleverly they were written.

Thank you, NetGalley, Aliah Wright, and Red Hen Press, for providing an early copy of ‘Now You Owe Me’ in exchange for an unbiased review.

What a fantastic debut novel! It is challenging to discuss the plot without giving too much away, but here we go…

Ben and Corinthia are twins who endured a very difficult childhood growing up in rural Pennsylvania. At just 7 years old, they witnessed a murder. With neglectful parents who could not manage their own lives, and unhealthy coping mechanisms, the twins were propelled into becoming serial killers. When their killing spree draws too much attention from both the media and law enforcement, they vow to stop—but not before taking one final victim. On Halloween night, they plan to kidnap their last target, but the abduction does not go as planned, and they soon realize they have gotten more than they bargained for.

Plot twist after unexpected plot twist kept me glued to the pages—chapter 21 had me gasping out loud!

Aliah Wright masterfully weaves together heavy themes, delivering a story that is both spine-chilling and heartbreaking. The disturbing events of Ben and Corinthia’s childhood, the neglect and psychological torment they endured, and the adults who failed them again and again are all portrayed with haunting realism.

I am looking forward to many more novels from Aliah Wright!

Very nearly DNF’d this book but I kept reading to see if the twist everyone talked about was as good as they made it seem,,, I should have DNF’d.

The summary makes this sound like a completely different book. I thought I was getting a pair of established serial killers whose final victim was crafty and managed to give them a run for their money. Instead I got way too many chapters of Spooky Children (an ick of mine) and eventually a heroine who didn’t seem to understand her criminal investigations work, which was fine cause the cops didn’t get it either. Very disappointing bait and switch :/

I called the twist at about 20% and spent the rest of the book very badly wishing I was wrong because surely such an ableist and transphobic premise wouldn’t be written in 2024 right? Wrong! Several of my friends are trans systems and this book was a gross caricature of both those things.

Let’s move past using gender nonconforming neurodivergent people as serial killers please!

I really enjoyed this dark and twisted thriller! It started out a little too intense for me but I really enjoyed the shock value towards the end, never could have predicted what happened! Thank you for the ARC!!!

Wow what a crazy story.

Most thrillers end with the big reveal but in this one they kept going all the way through the trial and some. Twist and turn after twist and turn and yet it all flowed seamlessly.

The Amanda character was by far my favorite and I loved how witty and powerful she is. If there is a 2nd book to this story, I would absolutely read it.

Now You Owe Me is a captivating debut that combines a highly intriguing concept with well-developed characters. The novel’s many twists and turns maintain a gripping narrative, and Wright's graphic descriptions add a visceral edge to the story. While some areas of the book drag slightly, the rich detail and suspenseful plot more than make up for it. The ending could benefit from more resolution, but overall, this is a compelling read that showcases Wright's talent and promises exciting things for future works!!!

3.5 ⭐️ read.

This book was captivating, but the ending left me wanting more. I think there was more room for character development. There could be a benefit to some trigger warnings as the topics are graphic. The author did an amazing job of making me feel like i was in the courtroom.

I think this was a solid debut and there’s absolutely room to do some cool things with this character.. The story was certainly captivating and it was a one-day pool read for me. It definitely held my attention, and I did want to keep reading to find out where we’d end up. The twist was great.

I do think, though, that it would benefit from some content warnings since there’s very little development of the story before some very tough things happen. For me, the talk of makeup and fashion also seemed a little out of place outside of the context of the initial development of Amanda’s character - it was distracting more than anything to have detailed descriptions of brand names, etc. I echo some other reviewers that the summary blurb is a little bit misleading and that the story ends rather abruptly, especially without knowing if it is setting up a sequel or series.

WOW WOW WOW. THAT WAS CRAZY!!

Ben and Corinthia, 7 year old twins, witness a gruesome murder. This murder, along with a very messed up home life, lead the twins on a killing spree once they are older. They finally decide enough is enough. But just one more victim won't hurt, right:? Not when they mess with the wrong one...

I was super impressed with this creative plot! Very different from anything I have read before, in the best possible way. The story starts when the twins are only 7 but continues into their adulthood, exploring why they become killers. This made for some really excellent character development.

This book had been super engrossed from the very first page. It is REALLY hard to put down. So many great twists and turns, especially THAT major one (WOWWWW). A chilling, disturbing, and heart pounding novel, to say the least.

Well done Aliah Wright - I cannot wait to read more of your books! Congrats on your first novel you absolutely killed it! (no pun intended)

Thank you Red Hen Press and NetGalley for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
