This is the third in Sarah Eden’s 'The Gents’ series, which focuses on a group of male friends who met at school during the Georgian Era. Niles is called puppy by the Gent friend group. His family has arranged a marriage for him to miss Penelope Seymour of Ireland. But Niles does not want an arranged marriage and the marriage contract insists that her estate remain in her name. He needs to own property to achieve his goal of becoming a member of the House of Commons. So instead of meeting his intended to sign the contracts he flees to a friend's home claiming illness.

Penelope isn’t one to be sidetracked. Other than her property she has no dowry and no other prospects. Her family is known for horse breeding and training and she has a horse she wants to purchase but needs to be married to secure the loan. She is under a time crunch or the deal can fall apart. So she seeks Niles out where he is hiding. They are surprised to find they are well suited and enjoy getting to know each other. But can they find a solution where both can have their dreams and each other too?

I enjoyed the writing and the characters. Moments together could be as simple as a picnic or learning to hit something. I was not as confused as in the previous books, in trying to keep all the characters straight. They all have surnames, and nicknames. And I appreciated the appearances of the wives from other books in the series. The Gent’s like to gather together often for house parties and pushing romances. They all get moments for a comment to add humor or wisdom for the current situations.

Eden keeps her romances clean with kissing only. But she has the ability to build up tension and longing. And I like that the obstacles feel realistic for the time period. This is easy to recommend as a stand alone but will be more enjoyable if you read the entire series. Sarah Eden is one of my favorite local (to my area) authors.

Another fantastic read by Sarah Eden. This story is part of the series of friends called the Gents. I don't think you need to read the series to enjoy the book, but the dynamics of the friendships definitely play a large part of the storyline. A great blending of sweet romance with enough misunderstandings, angst, and emotional growth to make an enjoyable read. I didn't want to put it down. I love the growth of the characters as well as the humor Eden weaves throughout the storyline. Definitely a must read by fans of the Gents!

My favorite author, one my favorite of her series, I was SO grateful to receive this advanced reader copy, and it was so fun!! Seriously, Sarah M. Eden's storylines are so tight, her characters and their backstories so realistic and well-defined, and each character so worth knowing. I find myself wishing I were there with them, that I could be part of the lives of these wonderful people, and even wishing they were real people!

To be completely honest, I should give this book 4.5 stars, (I'm stingy with my 5 stars,) and this one had a few... (usually very) minor flaws. Generally, the flaws were minor enough that I wouldn't hold them against the book too much, but I did think about them each time I read it. (I've read it twice already and still loved it each time, so all is forgiven!) Now I can't wait to read Aldric's story! Thanks for another lovely offering!

Snapdragons is the fourth book in the Gents series by Sarah M. Eden. The Gents are a group of closely bonded friends who went to school together and are now navigating early adulthood. The main character in this story is Niles Greenberry, the quiet member of the group, who is surprisingly intelligent, humorous, and adept at physical activity. He is being pressured by his family into a marriage arranged by his Grandfather. Niles is horrified at the thought and has tried repeatedly to let his relatives know that. When his prospective bride, Penelope Seymour, arrives from Ireland at his family estate in Cornwall, Niles is not there. He has run away to stay with another of the Gents, Layton Digby, at his estate in northern England. Penelope, needs this marriage to carry out her plans and is determined to follow Niles to his friend's place. And then the fun begins as several of the Gents and their spouses are in residence there. Eden does a masterful job of with complex social and personal interactions. Her Gents group are such appealing characters, caring and protective of each other. Eden explores the rigidity of societal norms during this time period that often leave individuals with little personal choice. She also delves into the good and the bad in family relationships and the real lack of control women had over their lives. The characters are complex and the settings and plot are richly rendered. This is a very enjoyable read. Strongly recommended for readers of historical romance.

I love getting to know these couples and their stories. This book is about Niles, or Puppy, as his friends call him. He is the quiet, unassuming Gent, always in the background, but always listening.

Niles is being forced to marry by his Grandfather, who arranges all the family marriages, but he is not going to let it happen. He is not going to be put in that situation, so he leaves town and hides with his friend Layton.

Penelope is from Ireland, outspoken, a Banshee per her neighbors, and has been looking for a husband that would allow her to continue to own property after their marriage. Niles is her last chance, and he didn't even give it a chance. So she takes matters in her own hands and follows him to where he is staying.

What happens next will make you smile as you get to know these two and the other Gents and their wives. Their characters are so giving and protective. Such a great book!

I loved this book. An arranged marriage and a runaway groom were the perfect way to start this story. The grandfather of Niles is known for arranging all the marriages in his family, but Niles has made it clear that he will only marry someone whom he loves. When his intended shows up at the estate where Niles has been hiding, Niles wants nothing to do with Penelope or her brother Liam. The Gents stand by their friend, and Penelope is equally determined to find a way to make the marriage happen. This book had all the feelings, I really enjoyed getting to know Niles story.

I love Sarah M Eden's books! She writes such complex characters who feel such real emotions and go through things that make me as the reader feel deeply. This book was one of those where I laughed, cried, and stared blankly at the wall in frustration! In other words, it was a big feeler! I felt a real connection to these characters and found myself in the pages!

The premise of a hopeful and determined bride and a run-away groom with friends who would do anything to protect him made for such a fun, entertaining read! The Gents books are super engaging and never disappoint! I am so lucky that I was able to receive an advanced copy from NetGalley and Covenant Communications! I can't wait for the rest of the world to be able to read this spectacular story!

I truly enjoyed this runaway groom tale from Sarah Eden. The humor, unique situations and characters were delightful.
Penny and Niles were both so witty. And I loved all the Gents who were closer than family, learning about the pugilists and the general feel of the book.
This is the first book of this series that I have read. So I am anxious to go back and catch up.
Thank you to Net Galley for allowing me to read this book. The opinions are entirely my 0wn..
