A couple torn apart by loss and alcoholism, missing pre-Colombian artifacts from her work place, and a set of murders to solve… Savanah and Hezekiahs marriage has been in shambles and they’ve been separated for a couple of years now, but when Savanah is under suspicion for murder Hez is her go to attorney. Will this mystery be what saves their relationship? Or will it push it further down into the rabbit hole? The Tupelo grove series first novel: What We Hide by Colleen Coble and Rick Acker is PACKED with suspense as well as romance. The two authors writing perfectly intertwines constructing a heart wrenching masterpiece that will have your brain doing a double take.
This series is one to look forward to, and I recommend this to anyone who likes to stay on the edge of their seats. The story did start slow but I feel that it was important for the build up of the plot especially as this is the first in a series. Despite its slow start it hooks you right away. The characters are intriguing, and their flaws are perfectly displayed and revealed at just the right time. Sometimes the dialogue or the characters thoughts can be repetitive but perhaps that was on purpose. I typically find that sort of thing annoying however, in this case I found it rather suiting. The characters are under a heavy amount of stress as well as grief, providing this trait welcome homage to in bed itself here. The main characters are on a healing journey, navigating a number of things so there is bound to be some repetitiveness to their thoughts and words though this will probably be a controversial subject in reviews. Other than those two points I think everything else was laid out just right and that this series will be liked by numerous types of readers.
The plot is quite interesting, and by the end you’ll surely want more. I can’t wait to check out the rest of this series, however before I end this review I would like to point out some content warnings. This novel and most likely the rest of the series will include topics like: child loss- specifically the child drowning in a pool, abduction, alcoholism, and signs of PTSD.
As for the audio review, I feel Karen Peaks was a great choice for this audiobook. She works really hard to provide a variety of voices while speaking clearly and displaying the implied emotions with her voice. I think she is one of my favourite narrators and I hope to listen to more of her work.
Lastly, I would like to say thank you to NetGalley, as well as HarperCollins Christian publishing, and more for granting me a chance to review this ARC. It was an honour to review this book and I can’t wait to read more.

This book blew me away. I lived it. I had sort of guessed about one bad person. Didn't like them from the start. But I really got invested in the other characters. Omgosh guys, you can't leave us like this! Hurry with the next book! It's not a cliffhanger but whew. My favorite thing was the bible verse on the daughter's tombstone about where your treasures are, there also will be your heart. Something like that. The authors' will never know how much they touched my life with that. I was needing that eye opener right now.
The narration was excellent! Very good different voices.

I love that more authors are mixing thrillers and romance. Maybe they’ve always been out there but the ones I’m reading now have been so darn good- this one included! This one had me until the epilogue which is the only reason it lost a star. I knew there was more to it, maybe there is a sequel coming? Either way, the romance was great and the grief felt so real. I love the Christianity aspect of it and how that wove itself into the book very tastefully. I’d highly recommend this one!

This was a good story and leads to a series, I didn’t like the sister at all nor did I trust her. Though I really loved Savanna and Yas and would love to see what’s next in this crazy up and down story about corruption and much more.

What We Hide by Colleen Coble and Rick Acker. It is a terrific collaboration of the two! It had me guessing throughout the book of what was going to happen next. I thoroughly enjoyed it and I am looking forward to another book from them.
Savannah Webster is not sure what her future holds.. She and her husband, Hez, have been separated since tragedy tore them apart. He numbed his grief with alcohol. She returned to Tupelo Grove University, which her family helped found over a century ago, to teach history. When a death happens on the campus, is she to blame? Will Hez come to her aid? The only way to survive is to help each other and put the past behind them.
Thank you to Netgalley and HarperCollins Christian Publishing for the advanced reader copy.

Colleen and Rick are a dynamic duo. This was beautifully done, both the writing and narration. The narration was amazing. You could feel the raw emotions the enitre time.
I would consider this more of a mystery than a romance though. I was super shocked to find out why she was supposed to go to London, it literally came out of no where. annd I can not wait for the next one.
Thank you NetGalley, Thomas Nelson and Zondervan Fiction Audio for a copy of this audio book (:

Set against the backdrop of the Alabama coast in the fictional town of Pelican Harbor, this novel reintroduces characters from Coble's series. The story delves into the complexities of a marriage seeking redemption after a devastating loss, a workaholic's descent into substance abuse to numb the pain, and the overarching issue of poor communication. History professor Savannah turns to her estranged lawyer husband, Hezekiah, for aid when she falls under suspicion for the murder of the university president at her workplace. Yet, it's clear there's more to the story than meets the eye. This outstanding first entry in the series is brimming with mystery and suspense from the get-go, keeping readers on their toes. The characters are richly crafted and leave a lasting impression. The book concludes with a cliffhanger that catches you off guard, setting the stage for the next installment. The faith elements are present but subtle, enhancing the narrative. For fans of thrilling romantic suspense, this book is a must-read, and the narration is exceptional, making for an immersive listening experience. I'm looking forward to reading the next installments of this series.

A great suspense that grabs you from the beginning. Savannah and Hez are estranged after losing their child 2 years ago. The death put Hez in a spiral, and he becomes an alcoholic that forces Savannah to move out. Now Hez is back, clean on track, back in a place to a man he wants to be for Savannah, but she quickly rejects him. But Svannah get embroiled in a murder and asks to represent her. The case becomes interesting, someone is stealing artifacts amd there's a lot of money being siphoned. Another person is killed and Savannah and her sister are in danger. With plot twists and fast pace, the book was captivating.

What We Hide was so so good! I usually enjoy Colleen Coble books but she really hit this one out of the ballpark when writing with Rick Acker! The mystery behind it was just great. I listened to it in one day and now I can't wait for the next in this series!
Karen Peakes is a wonderful narrator who did amazing voices for everyone.
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review. All opinions are my own.
Publication date: 2 July 2024

What a great beginning to the Tupelo Grove series.
Savannah a professor on the track for tenure at a failing university needs to finally file for divorce from Hez and figure out what is going wrong at her university.
Hez is Savannahs soon to be ex-husband attorney and former addict. He has.done all he can to heal and prove to Savannah he loves her.
So many twists and turns. I had no clue who the culprit was.
Now we wait for the next in the series.

A captivating and intricately woven story that makes me thrilled it's the first in the series.
What We Hide is a great mix of a family drama with work suspense that leaves on a fantastic cliff hanger right after thinking it's all resolved. Very much looking forward to more books by these authors.

After a slow start, the plot of this book draws you in about halfway through. There was much I liked about this book--the setting, the unique premise. There were repetitive scenes and miscommunication between the two main characters that did get on my nerves. Also there were things that happened towards the end that seemed a bit beyond belief.
I thought the narrator did a good job with the southern accents.
This books sets up the sequel well and I'm looking forward to the next book. I thank Thomas Nelson and Zondervan Fiction Audio for this audiobook. The opinions shared are my own, shared willingly.

Savannah Webster is grieving the loss of her child and the demise of her marriage. Her husband, Hez Webster, fell apart because of the grief and guilt. When Hez comes back in her life, Savannah knows she isn't truly over him. When she is under suspicion for a crime, she knows Hez's lawyer skills will be needed.
This book is full of suspense and mystery. This second chance romance is filled with action and the ending.... Well you will have to read it to find out.
I listened to the audiobook and really enjoyed the narration. I definitely recommend you give this book a read.

This book was an amazing rollercoaster ride. There were so many twists and turns and surprises. I absolutely love that it was suspense but clean with Christian content. I highly recommend this book. I will be reading more from these authors. .
The narrator was great as well.
Thank you NetGalley and Thomas Nelson for the opportunity to listen to this audiobook.

I inhaled this book from beginning to end. I could not put it down. It grabbed me from the very first chapter. Colleen Coble is one of my favorite Christian authors. I was not in the least bit surprised that I would love this book. The co-writing between her and Rick Acker was phenomenal. I immediately fell in love with all of the main characters. I am a Christian fiction reader although if I wasn’t I would still have enjoyed this book. It did not force Christianity on the reader. It was suspenseful, thrilling, and romantic all tied into one amazing story. It will have you guessing until the very end. I anticipate the next book in this series. I am sure I will devour it as well. I hope these two authors continue their collaboration because the results are tremendous. I would absolutely recommend this book to friends and colleagues.

I have so many questions and because this is book 1 of Tupelo Grove. I will have to wait for the next book. I absolutely love when a book has a false ending. You think yay they caught the culprit, and everyone lives happily ever after, but do they? I am actually excited for the next book so I can re-read this book and the next one together. I had the audio only for this and the narrator was Karen Peakes who did a good job. Thank you NetGalley, HarperCollins Christian Publishing, and Colleen Coble and Rick Acker for the ARC. Release date 7/2/24.

I have read many books by Colleen Coble but this is my first book by Rick Acker, it won't be my last. I was rooting for Savanah and Hez and can't wait for the next one to come out. It is a strong mystery/suspense story with just the right amount of faith content. Great writing team!
The narrator did an amazing job with this audiobook! I hope it becomes available in large print as well. This book can be recommended to many of our patrons as long as it is available in multiple formats.
Many thanks to Thomas Nelson, Zondervan Fiction Audio, and Netgalley for the opportunity to listen to an advanced copy of this book.

This book is the first of a series (Tupelo Grove #1) I’ve never read either of these authors before.
A 2nd chance story. Part romance, part suspense/mystery.
Savannah Webster and her husband, Hez, have been separated since a family tragedy tore them apart and he began numbing his grief and guilt with alcohol. She returned to Tupelo Grove University, which her family helped found over a century ago, to teach history. When Hez turns up in her classroom asking for a second chance, she rejects the idea immediately. But twenty-four hours later she’s under suspicion for murder, and since Hez is the best attorney she knows, she reluctantly asks him for help. They suspect the murder is tied to someone selling off the university’s pre-Columbian artifacts, but the secrets go much deeper than they realize.
I sure did think that things were neatly wrapped up at the end and then I got hit with the epilogue! 🤯 I will be watching for book 2!

This started off pretty meh for me. It almost felt like one of those paperbacks you’d find at the grocery store checkout for cheap. I won’t say it did a complete 180 and knocked my socks off, but it ended up getting better toward the last third or so. It still had that somewhat-grocery store-read to me though. My favorite bit about it was the twist at the end ; I’m a little unsure of what actually happened and why, but it seems to have been an intentional cliffhanger in order to have a sequel. I have to say, though, I will listen to or read the sequel, if there ends up being one and if I remember to, but only really because I want the ending to be explained.
Overall, pretty much every character was annoying, even Simon (I hate to say a child character was annoying - but he was so….). If you’re looking for a relatively easy read/listen then go for this, but if not then maybe skip this.

What We Hide by Colleen Coble and Rick Acker - 4.5 Stars (Book 1 in the Tupelo Grove Series)
A new series from Colleen Coble - cowritten with Rick Acker - and they do not disappoint! I really enjoyed this one. I was engaged from the very beginning and had to know ALL the things! I read part physical and listened to the audio as well. The narrator was great and did a really great job on the different character voices and emotion. You really felt like you were there in the moment with the characters of the narration.
In this book, Savannah is a professor who works with her sister and CEO, Jess. Her and Jess are complete opposites but very close with one another regardless. We see the story open up with Savannah filing for divorce with her husband, Hezekiah (Hez). They have been separated for 2 years following the events of the death of their young daughter, Ella.
Cut to a professor being murdered, Savannah being accused of the murder, Jess getting involved and obviously keeping secrets, Hez representing Savannah as her lawyer, someone after Savannah, Hez and Savannah trying to work their marriage out and you have the makings of a GREAT romantic suspense story!
I overall enjoyed my time with this and the way it ended, I NEED the next book ASAP! The twists in this were done very well, even if I somewhat figured out some things. :) Loved that cliffhanger at the end either way.
My only complaint is I wanted Hez and Savannah to talk a bit more about their relationship but I understand they were trying to work through the mystery and they were trying to work through their feelings of grief and guilt from the loss of their daughter.
Overall, I am looking forward to the next book in the series.
Thank you to Thomas Nelson for a complementary copy of the book to honestly read and review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Trigger Warning Info: I haven't seen many reviews mention this so I want to take note. This book deals heavily with the death of a child by pool drowning. We see one parent deal with guilt and grief from it, the other with their extreme grief, and how it affects their marriage. Scenes in this book include visiting her gravesite, reliving the experience, a parent talking to another friend who also lost a child and talking through their grief, etc. I wanted to mention this in case anyone is sensitive to that content and needs to be aware before they pick this up.
