This is the ninth book in The Duke's Guard series. I have enjoyed each of the previous books and this one also did not disappoint. This can easy be read as a standalone, but as characters do overlap, it is more enjoyable if you have read prior books. Dermott O'Malley is the Duke's mercenary. He saves Georgiana after she falls and hits and then loses her memory. She had been on the run after her father gambled her away to the unsavory Viscount Trenchert, who is nothing more than a liar and thief. Dermott soon realizes the only way to truly protect Georgiana is to marry her, which would be no hardship at all as he had already fallen for her.
I liked Dermott 's character as he was both protective and tender with Georgiana. It was lovely to see the relationship between them grow and develop as they both fell in love.
A lovely addition to the series!
I received a complimentary copy from NetGalley and Dragonblade Publishing and am voluntarily leaving my review.
Entertaining Historical Romance
Georgiana is on the run, but she does not know why. In her attempt to scale a wall, she falls and loses her memory. Dermott sees her fall and rescues her. He has no idea how she will change his life.
Georgiana's father lost everything he owned, but he did not only gamble away his possessions but also his daughter. The man he lost everything to was a vile and despicable creature. Before it was too late, Georgiana’s father made sure that his daughter had a head start. She was to seek shelter with an earl. Would Georgiana gain her memories? What did the evil viscount do to recover his prize?
I enjoyed this delightful story; it kept me turning the pages. I recommend it to those who like historical romance with suspense.
It's a story of cheating, murder, kidnapping and a lass on the run. The Duke's Mercenary, Dermott O'Malley, saves Georgiana Eggerton after she falls and hits her head. He lays claim that she's his, but her father gambled away everything including Georgiana to Viscount Trenchert. A liar, a thief and murderer. Even though she's lost her memory, she's under the protection of the Earl of Lippincott and the Duke's Guards. Dermott and the Earl know of another way to protect her. It's what Dermott wanted all along. Trenchert is one depraved individual. I still want to know what happened to her bag! I think this is my favorite book of the series
Mild descriptive sex.
I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this book from NetGalley.
I loved this story! I am enjoying all of The Duke's Guard Series. As referenced in the story, it would be quite the sight of all 16 of the Duke's Guard lined up in a row, shoulder to shoulder. I would love to see that!
This is Dermott O'Malley and Georgiana Eggerton's story. The story has it all, romance at first sight, wonderful characters throughout the story, and a very nasty villain.
You don't want to miss this one.
Although this historical romance is part of a series each book can be read alone. The heroes in all the books are related and work as part of a team of bodyguards. They take the duty very seriously and would give their lives to protect those under their care.
In this book a young woman falls off a wall in front of our patrolling hero. Finders keepers as far as he's concerned.
Our heroine wakes not knowing who, or where she is. There is a lot of trouble following her.
An action packed story filled with humour and lots of loving characters. Obviously there is danger from a terrible man who has already ruined our heroine's life.
Great fun.
I enjoyed reading this book. Once I started reading it I didn't want to put it down. The characters are great and the storyline hooked me from the start. I don't want to spoil this book for anyone so I won't go into details. I recommend reading this book. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
The Duke’s Mercenary by CH Admirand is part of an ongoing series and very readable. Its plot is simple: the mercenary guard rescues a woman and falls immediately in love, they marry and live happily ever after. It’s a good trope and Admirand makes each book different and interesting, full of excellent characters and intriguing situations.
Dermott O’Malley is one of sixteen cousins sworn to protect the duke and his family, which includes a viscount, an earl, and a baron, wives, and chilldren. They all work together with the head of each household to protect the innocent. O’Malley, like his brothers and cousins is strong and brave and stubborn. He sees a woman on the top of a wall and shouts for her to stop, but she falls and by the time he gets there she is bleeding. By the time he gets back to the manor with her, he is in love and has decided to keep her. The story moves on from there, with plenty standing between them and happiness. And, there is more blood. A fun book. Thanks Ms Admirand.
I was invited to read The Duke’s Mercenary by Dragonblade. All thoughts and opinions are mine. #Netgalley #Dragonblade #CHAdmirand #TheDukesMercenary
Another terrific entry into the Duke's Guard series. Dermott is one of the sixteen handsome, protective Irishmen who work for the Duke of Wyndmere, guarding his immediate and extended families. I love these men who are tough on the outside but have an inner softness brought out by the women they fall for.
The story opens with Georgiana Eggerton discovering that her father has gambled away their homes, his fortune, her dowry, and her hand in marriage to the vile Viscount Trenchert. Devastated by what happened, he suspects that the Viscount cheated and challenges him to a duel, but he also knows that Georgiana is in danger. He quickly sends Georgiana off to the country, telling her to seek assistance from the Earl of Lippencott.
Dermott is making his rounds of the Earl's property when he spies a beautiful young woman about to jump from a wall. He races toward her but isn't in time to catch her. He scoops up her unconscious body and races for the manor, all the time worrying about her, wondering who she is and what she is running from. His protective instincts are aroused, as is his heart, and something in him says, "Finders keepers - she's mine."
Matters become complicated when Georgiana regains consciousness but can't remember who she is or what she is running from. Dermott vows to protect her, as do his fellow Guard members and the Earl himself. But it is Dermott who has Georgiana's complete trust.
I loved watching the relationship develop between Georgiana and Dermott. As her memories return, the danger she is in becomes clear. I enjoyed seeing Dermott's protectiveness combine with the tender feelings that were new to him. Georgiana's feelings for Dermott grow the more time she spends with him. But she is no frail flower, and there are times when her strength of will runs up against Dermott's stubbornness, and sparks fly. The tension ramps up as the viscount attempts to claim his prize, but the Duke's Guard members thwart him. Meanwhile, Dermott comes up with the perfect plan to put Georgiana out of the viscount's reach. I liked that neither took long to admit their feelings, and there were no misunderstandings to keep them apart.
The confrontations with the viscount were intense and exciting. It's always fun to see the feisty Guard members have to rein in their more violent instincts to adhere to their employers' rules of engagement. However, I found the final confrontation with the viscount a little anti-climactic, as I would like to know what happened to him.
As always, I love the interactions among the men of the Duke's Guard. The brothers and cousins always have each other's backs, but they do not hesitate to roast each other whenever they feel like it. It was entertaining to see Dermott on the receiving end of post-marriage teasing and the payback from the others.
Georgiana Eggerton's father who had had a bad gambling habit has finally done it. He has wagered his home, his wealth, his daughter’s dowry, and her hand in marriage to the despicable Viscount Trenchert. When he loses everything, he suspects, and rightly so, that Trenchert has cheated so he challenges him to a duel at dawn. Luckily, he is aware of Trenchert’s reputation, so he rushes home, gets his beloved daughter to pack her things and flee in the middle of the night and seek refuge with the Earl of Lippincott, who was once his friend.
Unfortunately, on her way to Lippincott’s estate, she has an accident that has her losing her memory and being saved by her angel in the way of a six-foot giant of a man named Dermott, who has wind swept blond hair and beautiful green eyes and is so kind and protective of Georgiana that it seems only natural that she would cling to him.
Dermott takes Georgiana, whom he names Amber for the colour of her eyes, to Lippincott. There, “Amber” begins to regain her memory and from there the relationship as well as the attraction between her and Dermott. Long story short, this was a sweet read with some steam between Dermott and Georgiana and the love that grew from the rescue.
All in a delightful story and worth reading. I received an ARC from the publishers and NetGalley with thanks and submit my thoughts voluntarily.
This is the 6th book in a series that follows a previous series with 4 books … and maybe reading in order would have been better for me as there are definitely a lot of characters and references to the previous books …
It’s a nice story although I felt it was perhaps a little too long for my liking . I may go back and start at the beginning with the first series at some point when I have a bit of time :)
All I can say is, what is there not to like about the Duke Guard? They are fiercely protective of those in their care and not afraid to face down any enemy. I have enjoyed this series and the manner in which each of the men is caught in the web of love. Discovering Lady Georgiana sitting on a wall, ready to jump, Dermott manages to reach her but not before she sustains a gash on her forehead, resulting in amnesia. It is quickly ascertained that Georgiana is running for her life and although she has no recollection of past events, that does not stop the Duke's Guard and Dermott in particular from putting their plans into action. A delightful attraction springs up between Georgiana and Dermott, resulting in the kind of love that poets write about. Despite the determination of her enemy, Dermott thwarts all attacks upon her and the novel does come to a lovely conclusion. I received a copy of this novel as a gift through Dragonblade Publishing and NetGalley and this is my honest and voluntary review.
Dermott‘s Story
I really enjoy this series especially the bond of love and loyalty between all characters involved. It’s so nice to see how they banter and respect, love and protect each other. The plot of this installment is captivating and full of romance, humor, suspense and a little steam. Dermott and Georgiana are endearing characters and a lovely couple.
The book can be read on its own but I would recommend to start with the first book of series.
Georgiana Eggerton's whole life is turned upside down when her beloved father, who is addicted to gambling, loses his entire fortune, his lands and her to the vile Viscount Trenchert and asks her to flee and seek refuge with the Earl of Lippincott, who was once his friend.
Dermott O’Malley is part of the Duke of Wyndmere’s Guard and is known as the Duke‘s Mercenary. He is extremely loyal and takes his responsibilities seriously. His assignment is to guard the Duke’s brother, the Earl of Lippincott and his family.
When, during one of his patrols, Dermott comes across a young woman who jumps from a wall surrounding the Earl’s estate and gets injured in the process, he immediately feels protective of the girl and falls in love with her.
It soon becomes obvious that she has lost her memories and is in danger but Dermott, the Duke’s guards and the Earl and his family will do anything to keep her safe…
If you like historical romance novels with suspense, humor and protective heroes, this book is for you!
Thank you NetGalley. This has been a fun series to read and there are more to some. I look forward to them all. Dermott O'Malley is making his rounds to the Earl's home and keeping it safe. He sees a girl on a rock wall about to jump off but before he can say a word she jumps and hits her head and is out. He takes her back to have her taken care of. She can't remember who she is or where she came from. This goes on for some time and little by little it comes to her. Georgianna's father has sent her to the Earl for him to keep her safe. Her father has been cornered into gambling away his homes, his daughter in marriage, her dowry and all he has to a man who is really bad. The men will protect her but Dermott decides he'll marry her and that will be the most protection and he loves her a well.
A fantastic series that just keeps getting better. If you have been reading the series, you have met the Duke's protectors, mostly brothers. But Dermott, is a cousin and he suddenly finds himself protecting Georgianna. A girl without a memory. Follow this strong protector, who finds that his strength of character is just as important as his physical strength. There is excellent chemistry between the two. A villain who you will truly hate and more. Beautifully written. Can stand alone yet it so much better if you read all the books even if you don't read them in order. I believe this series is going to have more stories so start now and don't miss any of them.
4.25 Stars
Dermott O’Malley, The Duke’s Mercenary, expects trouble but not the lovely lass perched on the stone wall, arms spread, prepared to jump. He calls out a warning, and rushes to save her as she falls. She opens her amber eyes, unable to tear her gaze from the devastatingly handsome man with the brilliant green eyes hovering above her. She blinks. Who is he? who is she?
The ninth book in the series about the Irish men who guard a Duke & his family, whilst it could easily be read on its own characters do, of course, overlap. I love the Irishmen, they’re there for each other, they tease each other & they are all very protective. I loved Dermott who fell hard & fast for Georgiana. She suffers a head injury when she falls & losses her memory but as it gradually returns she remembers why she was fleeing. I loved the chemistry between the couple & how they both fell hard & fast for each other. The villain was truly horrid & hadn’t a good bone in his body. The pages flew by & I read this lovely romance in an afternoon. I did have a couple of questions at the end concerning everything that the villain had duped people out of, were they returned? & did Georgiana’s coachman & footman recover?

Ah! the Duke’s guard comes through again!
This time it’s Dermott O’Malley story. O’Malley with his perfectly chiseled lips, emerald eyes and blonde windswept hair. A six foot, well packed package. Or at least that’s what the lovely Georgina Eggerton sees when she regains consciousness after falling off a stone wall on the edge of the Earl of Lipponcott’s property. Georgina is fleeing London on her father’s orders to escape the wicked Viscount Trenchert who won Georgina’s hand in a doubtful card game.
O’Malley thinks he’s died and gone to heaven when he sees this veritable angel. He all but beats his chest. He does declare to the cousins she his! All very Tarzan!
The injured girl, whom Dermott names Amber (because of the color of her eyes naturally!) has concussion. Her memories in tatters. She’s alarmed.! Who is she? Is she fleeing from or running towards something? Whatever it is she feels it’s something dastardly!
So for a soppy, happy ever after, where the hero rescues the poor fragile female, this is it.
Exactly what I was in the mood for!
A Dragonblade ARC via NetGalley.
Many thanks to the author and publisher.

Another guard meets his match....
This time, Dermott is the hero to Georgiana, who lost her memory.
A fast paced read with Dermott as a very good leading man.
A feisty heroine and a villain meet different treatment at the hands of the Duke’s Guard.
Dermott O’Malley rescues an injured girl who has just climbed a wall into his employers estate and falls for her immediately. It is a good thing that Earl Lippincott helps those in need, as her arrival brings trouble to their doorstep!
A fast flowing story with action and romance; a good addition to the series.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
In this series the book follows a predictable path. But that doesn’t mean that they are any less enticing and wonderful to read. One of the cousins finds a girl, rescues her from her fate then gets hurt. Strong women, stronger men and an even more wonderful story.
The dukes mercenary has never understood why marriage is so wonderful until he meets a fearless girl who jumps to safety. Now his protective duties not only include the dukes family but her as well.
I received a complementary copy of this book. I was not required to write a positive review.. the opinion I have given is my own. I am disclosing this according to the guidelines.
Debts, Family, Finding Happiness:
This is a wonderful series about the guards that protect the duke and his family.
This exciting read is about Dermott and Georgiana who take us on a whirlwind of a story before they find their HEA.
First off, the story takes us into a disastrous opening that has Georgiana in peril and after escaping from her father's admission of his gambling debt where he has lost everything even his lovely daughter. On her way from escaping this awful news she has a horrific accident and now has lost some of her memory. Saved by our hero Dermott the duke's mercenary guard.
Their story begins from this point on, and we are part of a slow building romance with several hurdles for them to accomplish along with a very disgusting and evil villain.
A lovely story with desirous attraction that brings out the very tender side of Dermott. He is a wonderful character.
A solid story about two intriguing people finding love, happiness and a beautiful conclusion for book 9 of the series.
💖Such enjoyment revisiting some of the characters from previous stories.
