This was such a cute and charming kids book! I read it to my toddler and she really enjoyed it! It was a perfect Halloween book and I plan to purchase a physical copy for my kids to more easily read and flip through on their own!
Cryptid camaraderie and happy accidents make this story an absolute delight for Halloween reading. I can't wait to share it with my nephews!
Mothman's Happy Cryptid Halloween is cute and funny, and it's something I look forward to recommending to library patrons as we get closer to Halloween.
I love the Mothman books! This was a simple plot and gave me Nightmare Before Christmas vibes. Mothman wanted to save Halloween for the town and found a creative way to make it the Best Halloween in the Universe!
Absolutely loved this. A cute and funny story about the best cryptid around, mothman! I can’t wait for October to share this with my students!
This is adorable! I love cryptid stories and it's the perfect season for this book! Thank you to NetGalley for a digital copy
As a Kentuckian, I’m no stranger to cryptids, including Mothman, even though he is from nearby West Virginia (about 2-3 hours from where I grew up as a child). The illustrations in Mothman’s Happy Cryptid Halloween are absolutely adorable, and the story presents Mothman in a wonderfully endearing light (Read it and you’ll see what I mean!) This book is especially perfect to read given that it’s almost fall and spooky season!
Thank you to the publisher 8th Circle / Independent Book Publishers Association (IBPA) / Members' Titles for providing an advance reader copy via NetGalley
This book is a cute Halloween (or really any time) read. The illustrations are simple but stand out enough to engage your little ones and the storyline that Mothman saves Halloween and the children end up loving him for it is heartfelt and I feel will help foster a love for the little guy for years to come in the hearts of our tiny readers.
This was a really cute little book. The illustrations were the part that really stood out to me; they are unique and ride that spooky-cute line so well. Though, I did like Shaffer’s Mothman Christmas story a bit more. I think this one lacked a bit in the plot department.
The cutest little cryptid picture book ever!
A wholesome story that follows mothman (who owns a pumpkin farm) and the adventure he sets out on to deliver the best Halloween ever. Although it may not go to plan, it all works out in the end!
I thought Mothman's Happy Cryptid Halloween was a really fun picture book for kids. The illustrations are bright and colorful, and the story is cute. I love that Mothman brings in all his friends, all of whom are also cryptids. I will definitely keep an eye out for other adventures by Mothman! I also liked that the author included a glossary in the back that explained each cryptid in a fun, kid friendly way. Many thanks to the author and Netgalley for allowing me to read this book!
Thank you 8th Circle (IBPA) for letting me read this wholesome story!
"Mothman's Happy Cryptid Halloween" by Andrew Shaffer gave me the vibe of a must read book. And after finishing it I can say it with my whole chest: this is a must read.
I had an embarassing amount of fun with that story. Sure, it is mostly visuals with very little text but so what? Fun is fun! Apart from being a fun story, "Mothman's Happy Cryptid Halloween" is also full of cute details and filled with good intentions, so to speak. If you want to understand me better, give it a read!
I wish I knew Mothman earlier. I find his design hilarious and gorgeous at the same time. In general, I like this simple aesthetic presented in the book, the colours are nicely saturated and everything is simple but pleasant to the eye.
Do not be afraid of checking "Mothman's Happy Cryptid Halloween" out! Mothman will do his best to entertain you... even if he gets lost a few times in the process.
I post my reviews also on Goodreads and Instagram!
Mothman’s Happy Cryptid Halloween
3.5 stars
It’s a cute, fun Halloween themed children’s book. The artwork was simple, but for this quick read it worked. Basically, showing how all the cryptids came together to try and give the children a Halloween since it rained on their trick or treating. I know I’m thinking too much into this but what parent would let their child play in pumpkin guts like it was snow?
My one issue with this is that it uses worstest which isn’t a word. Not something we want to teach young children.
I was not impressed by Mothman's Merry Cryptid Christmas, but I must confess that the Halloween entry in the series has charmed me. I'm not sure if I'll ever become a big fan of Mothman's holiday adventures, I would be interested in reading further entries in the series.
Received via NetGalley.
just adorable -- the perfect amount of cuteness and wholesomeness needed for a children's book like this. loved the art. had humor than an adult can enjoy - great comedic timing. just a lovely experience. thanks netgalley!!
The cover art reminded me of Cryptid Club, so I grabbed this eARC (thanks, NetGalley!) without looking any further. This turned out to be a picture book not affiliated with Sarah Andersen, but it's certainly a good readalike, especially for caregivers of picture book consumers who like this style.
Friendly, fuzzy cryptids bad together to try to save Halloween, creating an even bigger disaster... which ends up being a lot more fun. I adore the costumes the cryptids are all wearing-- the Jersey devil is dressed up like an old-timey sheriff, and the chupacabra is dressed as a mummy.
The amount of text and style of illustration make this most appropriate for younger audience (pre-3yo) members who are excited about Halloween, but older readers into cryptids will enjoy the who's who in the back.
These are seriously the cutest books for any cryptid loving kid. Adorable illustrations and an adorable story. I can't wait to collect them all!
(Full disclosure: I received a free e-ARC for review through Netgalley.)
When a deluge of rain threatens to ruin Halloween, Mothman mobilizes his crytpid buddies to save the day. With the help of Bigfoot, Jersey Devil, Nessie, and Chupacabra, he delivers his organic, home-grown pumpkins to the kids of Point Pleasant ... accidentally coating the entire town in pumpkin guts in the process. (That's when happens when you drop pumpkins from the sky. Guess he's never heard of punkin chunkin.) Can Halloween be salvaged? Stay tuned to find out!
I'm really digging Andrew Shaffer's Cryptid Holiday Classics series. Halloween seems an especially apt choice, and I quite loved Mothman's taste in costumes (yum!). The art is adorable and the stories outlandish, in the best way possible.
This book was absolutely fantastic! Simple drawings that will entertain everyone! Simple colours and high contrast for the baby in your life, a great story for the kiddies and enough humour that the adults will enjoy it too! I know I did! A definite must buy for the Halloween season! Thank you NETGALLEY for the ARC. This one was a pleasure to read!
Mothman is so excited for Halloween, it is too bad it gets cancelled due to rain. I love that Mothman and the other cryptids try and save Halloween. I love that the kids made the best of the mess made by the cryptids.
A fun and quick Halloween read.
