it was an interesting read, but it was a little all over the place for me. It was my first Tingle book. I enjoyed the rep and how this is something we deal with all the time, but something missed the mark for me. I will read more by him though.

Thank you Netgalley for an ARC but by the time I listened to the audio book, it already came out so, lol I guess it wasn't an ARC by the time I got to listen but I appreciate it anyway.

I liked this a great deal.

I was touched, I was moved, I was intrigued, I was scared , I was thrilled, and overall I really enjoyed the journey.

If there was any doubt that Chuck Tingle could do adult fiction, well there shouldn't be because he can.

There were layers upon layers of deeper meaning and I really enjoyed where Chuck took this.

I thought the "evil" revealed was a tad cheesy for me but it didn't wholly detract from my experience.

I hope Chuck dives into this genre more often!

Thank you, NetGalley, for an advanced audio copy of “Bury Your Gays” by Chuck Tingle in exchange for a review.

I went into this book with a limited knowledge of the plot, and I’m not sure if that was good or bad thing! I really enjoyed the book. It was very unique. Now…do I fully understand what happened? Eh. Did I still thoroughly enjoy it? Yes!

Eager to see what others think when this publishes!

I loved this book! This is not my first Chuck Tingle book nor will it be my last. I'm not sure if I can completely capture everything I want to say because there was quite a lot going on both with the plot and the social commentary. The book walks that Black Mirror line of just sci fi enough that these things are not actually possible yet but we probably arent too far off from this dystopian nightmare. I loved the creepy story and the tense pace that is set and doesn't really let up. I loved the skewering of corporate greed and theft while exploring the tricky legality of AI and intellectual property. I loved the shouting from the rooftops about what queer horror (and stories) means to the community. What an adventure. André Santana is a great narrator. I guess my only real complaint is that when I saw the audiobook cast and thought they'd be featured more. Thank you NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

I read this during Pride month and absolutely loved it. While I explicitly focus on Queer and LGBTQIA+ books during Pride month, don't forget to read queer all year.

Wow! The monologue about the metaphor that is Horror as a genre altogether was the biggest take away of this book. Chuck Tingle has an interesting mind. This was entertaining but also a tad longer than needed. We could have gotten to the point a little quicker there at the end. Overall, worth the listen/read! Thanks for the copy.

This was so fun and clever. The author had a lot to say and I loved the means they used to do so. Will definitely be watch for more from this author in the horror genre.

Hollywood horror with themes of unchecked capitalism and the rise of AI. Disclaimer: I am not a regular horror reader. I really, really enjoyed this. Was the occasional gore at times difficult for my baby sensibilities? Yes. But does that matter? Not really. Beyond an exploration of AI and capitalism, which is timely and necessary, we're also given a snapshot of the highly imperfect progress we've undergone as a society regarding LGBTQIA+ acceptance, which I think is also both timely and necessary. Discussion of progress vs progress yet to be is not a new one, but rarely do we get such a visceral picture of how intertwined progress and regression can be in the same moment. It's hopeful and despicable, heartwarming and absolutely horrible. It's an important picture, because while by-topic these discussions can be neatly categorized, moment to moment we experience both the good and the bad.

The narrators and production team did a fantastic job with this novel. I have a tendency to notice switches in voice in a way that is jarring, but this felt seamless to me. I went back to look at the list of narrators after I was finished and thought there's no way I noticed even half of the transitions that must have existed. I mean this as a high compliment. Hats off.

Buckaroos! This was a fun, campy horror book perfect for a summer read.
The story follows Misha, a queer screenwriter who has a cult following for his horror films. He's finally gained more mainstream fame with a hit tv show and an Oscar-nominated short film. When he refuses to kill off the gay-coded characters in his series, his Hollywood horror creations start to come to life to terrorize him and his friends. The mystery of how these creations come to life will keep you guessing, and the body count is low enough for my delicate sensibilities.
While fun and campy, the book grapples with the very real portrayal of "tragic gays" and queer representation in Hollywood. And ultimately how Misha can use the capitalist algorithm that tries to dictate public opinion to save himself and his friends.
The multiple narrators in the audiobook were a good choice and helped separate out some of the events and actions.

Misha is a screenwriter with his first Oscar nomination and feels ready to take on Hollywood by storm. He is summoned to the studio and told that he needs to kill off his gay characters in a show that he has been working on and is quite passionate about. If he doesn’t want to kill them off then they cant be gay. Misha doesn’t like either option, and wants to stick to his original story. The cost of doing this might cost him more than he could ever imagine.

This was a well written, beat the clock type story that is best going into without knowing what is happening. The discovery is one of the best parts. Tingle delivers a smart story that not only takes shots at greedy corporations but also at stereotypes and homophobia in the media. This has some subtle humor, well written dialogue and some very horrific scenes that were terrifying and gory. I loved the tension that was created by giving us insight into Misha’s childhood. Those chapters effectively led up to the climactic ending and delivered a unique horror novel that I will not forget.
The narration of the audiobook was fantastic and added so much to the story!!

Thank you so much @netgalley @macmillan.audio for the #gifted ALC!

Wow! This is one of my favorite reads of summer so far.

The full cast narration absolutely elevated my reading experience. It felt incredibly immersive and cinematic (fitting considering this is a story set in Hollywood).

Horrific and deeply moving — Bury Your Gays brings attention to queer erasure, capitalist greed, and AI ethics.

This book will be living in my brain for quite some time.

This was gifted by Netgalley & the publisher for my honest review.

I first want to start off by saying that the audio production of this book was TOP TIER. It was literally phenomenal, one of my more favorite audio experiences. It is worth listening to.

The overall story was very intriguing and I loved the bigger message. There were a few parts that were boring and slower paced, but overall this was my favorite book from Tingle!

Thank you NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for a copy of this audiobook!

4/5 stars for me. It really was between a 3-4, I highly recommend grabbing a copy of the book and following along or reading the physical book. The audio was great, great narrators and was entertaining, but I felt it to be difficult to follow along.
I really enjoyed the horror in this, I felt like it was fun, not a lot of gore, kept you on your toes of whats going to happen next. I enjoyed the scary/creepy characters, there were a lot of creepy settings as well that added a great thrill.
The flashbacks to Misha’s childhood and everything about his personal life added a great touch to the whole story. I felt like it depicted how a lot of LGTBQ+ probably feel in real life (this is from someone who isn’t part of the community so this is just my observation, not to insult anyone).
Overall, it was enjoyable and a fun read! Definitely needs to be added to your list if you are trying to read more queer books!

Bury Your Gays is an absolutely incredible novel by Chuck Tingle. I was simply amazed by how many topics this novel was able to discuss while also delivering a genuinely incredible horror story. I honestly can write an entire essay about this book. That’s how much material and thoughts it left me with after turning the last page (or reaching the last second of the audiobook in this case).

As with most horror stories, Bury Your Gays begins with a simple premise, a gay writer in Hollywood is told that the gay characters in the show he’s been working on have to die because of what the algorithm says, hence the title of the novel. From this simple initial conflict, Tingle takes the reader on a truly chilling ride about queer representation, dealing with one’s own sexuality, childhood trauma, corporate greed, and so much more. See, told you I can write an essay about the topics of this story. But I won’t because part of the enjoyment I had with the story was how Tingle revealed one theme after the other while simultaneously increasing the tension of the plot because all the elements complement each other perfectly.

I also want to compliment the team behind the audiobook. Everything from the narration to the sound effects helped turn this story into a cinematic experience.

Overall, I fully recommend this book to anyone who wants a great horror story that also deals with difficult topics that will stay with you long after finishing the book.

I'm usually not a horror fan and didn't realize this was a horror novel (Note for NetGalley/publisher, the genre is only listed as General Adult Fiction, LGBTQIA+, and Sci-Fi/Fantasy. It should really say Horror). I also didn't know that this was a graphic audiobook that included sound effects. I'm a bit of a scaredy cat, but I actually still enjoyed this book! I enjoyed the social commentary and this style of horror. I did not know what to expect in terms of this author's writing because of his other titles. But he is a great writer! I would like to check out Camp Demascus now.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the review copy.

I loved Camp Damascus last year, so I was excited when I saw that this book was coming out. My husband and I also watch a lot of movies which also played into my interest. This has lots of camp, which I also love. If you liked Camp Damascus or murder mysteries wrapped in horror, then this is for you.

I really enjoyed this queer horror story. It was so much fun to hear Chuck Tingle’s satirical take on corporate media, and some of the scary bits really unnerved me. Misha, his partner, and his friends were well developed and easy to sympathize with and root for. I would have preferred a little less gore, but it suited the story and didn’t feel gratuitous. There were descriptions of homophobia and child abuse that I also found difficult to listen to, but they were germane to the plot. I had a bit of trouble following the story towards the end, but overall, I was satisfied with how things played out.

The story works very well as an audiobook, and the audiobook production was excellent. André Santana did a great job providing most of the narration. His pacing was good, his pronunciation clear, and his distinctive voices suited the characters. His intonation conveyed moods and emotions effectively. The audiobook also includes multicast portions voiced by some famous speculative fiction authors as well as narrators featured in past Tingle works.

I recommend this book for fans of horror, speculative fiction, and LGBTQ stories.

I received a free review copy of the audiobook from Macmillan Audio and Tor Books through NetGalley. I volunteered to provide an honest review.

I do not usually read horror, but I love horror movies. This has the social critique element that I love in horror, and made me think of John Carpenter and Wes Craven films. This had commentary on capitalism, queer representation in media, and the threat of AI. The monsters were fun, but what I loved more was the main character's spirit and determination to write characters that portrayed queer joy. I did not expect to be smiling with warm fuzzies at the end of this book, but, well, here I am with a happy heart.

The audiobook is a fun listen. The other cast members show up in occasional chapters that are produced like a film and a really interesting touch. In case you're new to Chuck Tingle like I am, this does not fall into the erotica genre that he's usually known for. No spice in this one, just horror and movie monsters coming to life.

Thanks to Netgalley for the ALC!

When I first started this book, I was a little uncertain of where it was going to go. But I absolutely loved the concept of horror figures from the big screen haunting the main character. It brought me back to an episode of Charmed where characters from the screen stepped right out into our world. Only Tingle's concept of it was much more scifi and I enjoyed that a lot. The trope in which this book is named after is one that I've been aware of since Tara Maclay met her untimely demise in the early 2000's. If you know, you know. But one character that suffered from this trope and stuck with me more so, was Lexa from the CW show The 100. I'm not sure if one of the main characters creations was named after her, but it seemed fitting if so. All in all this was a really fun read. I enjoyed the audio and the parts with all the little sound effects to really absorb you into the scene. Also thought it was cool that Camp Damascus was mentioned partway through as well. Connecting universes? We'll see.

Chuck Tingle you've done it again. What a book. This book is a quite graphic horror novel so be warned that some of the content was a bit dark even for me. But if you aren't squeamish then I highly recommend giving this a read. Chuck lures you in with a Queer horror novel but it's all a ruse so we can talk about greater issues! Oh Chuck you genius. This book covers the film making industry, specifically how corporate greed drives the industry to making poor writing decisions or canceling shows they don't consider profitable because in the end they only care about profit margins and nothing else. This story also covered the dangerous emergence of technology (specifically AI and other computer generation software that is replacing actual human made art). This book also discusses queerness in media and how it tends to be very Bury Your Gays oriented but also how happy corporations are to jump on "oh being gay sells" when they see that it is profitable because at the end of the day all they see queerness as is a way to make sales and they are insincere with their support for the community. Really though this book is incredibly nuanced and well written. It was fun, scary, and thought provoking all in one story. Special mention that if you listen to the audio version you get a couple cameos from other authors which was very cool.
