This was a captivating horror novel that left me thoroughly impressed and entertained. As someone who appreciates both satire and horror, this book struck a perfect balance between the two, delivering a thought-provoking narrative with a sharp edge.

In the story we follow Misha Byrne, a gay screenwriter striving to create the queer shows and movies he wished he had growing up. His journey becomes increasingly difficult as he faces pressure from studio executives who demand he kill off his lesbian lead characters to boost viewership.

Misha's refusal to comply is a testament to his integrity, but it sets off a series of terrifying events that had my full attention. The horror elements are masterfully crafted, with stalkers dressed as monsters from Misha's past projects adding an eerie and personal touch to the threats he faces.

What I found particularly compelling was Tingle's exploration of the rise of AI in the entertainment industry. Tingle's satirical lens shines a harsh light on corporate dynamics, making this not just a horror story, but a pointed commentary on the state of modern Hollywood.

Chuck Tingle has proven once again that love is real, even in the midst of horror.

I have been familiar with Chuck Tingle's existence on this time line for years, though I hadn't read much of his work (erotica is not my trot). I LOVE his horror writing.. Straight, Camp Damascus, and now Bury Your Gays! A meta horror novel for those who love the genre. And the big baddie!! MIKE. DROP!!
Please write more horror, Chuck!!
And a BIG A+++ for the narration, the characters were brought to life!

LOVE IS REAL!a

5/5✨

This was my first Tingle book and absolutely loved it. I was about to listen and read this title and let me tell you, the narrators were amazing!

This was so much more than a quirky story about how Hollywood always kills off the queer character. It represents the power of chosen family, being true to yourself to live your most authentic life, and doing what you know is right, even when the world says it is "wrong" by the masses.

The zany characters and vivid descriptions of the situations, horror, and environment really made this a top read this year! If you are looking for a unique and thrilling read with a dash of horror, this is your next read.

Narrated by: André Santana; Charlie Jane Anders; CJ Leede; Georgia Bird; Liz Kerin; Mara Wilson; Mark Oshiro; Sarah Gailey; Stephen Graham Jones; T. Kingfisher; TJ Klune

I loved Camp Damascus so I was very eager to get my hands on Bury Your Gays and it definitely didn't disappoint!

This book follows Misha, a Hollywood scriptwriter, who is being pressured by his producers to kill off a gay character in the upcoming finale of his show. When Misha refuses, it sets off a catastrophic chain of events.

Bury Your Gays will probably be in my top books for this year. The horror, suspense and very relevant social commentary came together so well. I never knew what was going to happen next so I was constantly playing the audiobook any chance that I got. I love Tingle's writing style and will be picking up anything else he writes!

The characters were just *chefs kiss* amazing and my favourite part of this book. Misha was an absolute joy to follow and his Oscar's speech had me feeling all the feels. He's a character that you can't help rooting for. The Smoker was also creepy as hell and I want a real horror movie about him now.

I highly recommend the audio because not only are there some amazing guest narrators, the main narrator was fantastic. André Santana really brought the book to life with his voicing.

I really enjoyed this book. As my first Chuck Tingle, I believe this was wonderfully crafted. Now it's hard ti please me when it comes to horror and this hit all my marks.

Following Misha, who writes Queer horror stories, is wanting to finally push a story for television where the Queers don't die. Well, the producers aren't for that. So, Mishaps characters are coming to life.

I had so many unexpected twists and turns. I enjoyed this book so much

A fun commentary on homophobia in the media industry and the overtaking of ai. Bringing the bury your gays trope to an extreme, with fun suspenseful guts and a nicely concluded ending that faces the problems rather than running.

Misha has finally made it in Hollywood. His Oscar nomination makes it official. The executives at the studio think the next thing to elevate his career is to kill off the gay characters in the season finale of his current show. The algorithm says it’ll be great for his career, but Misha is tired of dead queers and traumatic storylines.

He refuses and quickly realizes that has put a target on his back. What’s more, weird stalkers dressed as monsters from his horror scripts are following him around, and they’re trying to kill him and his friends.

I chose to read this on the title alone, but there are so many elements that made me love it. Queer main character who isn’t fully out and has to make tough decisions about that. Aroace bff who is also a tech hacker genius. Mysterious monsters at the heart of an AI mystery. Fighting corruption. It’s a wild ride with a great plot and wonderful characters. Not quite a perfect 5 stars for me, but pretty darn close.

This novel had everything. With some great creepy villains and some unsettling moments it would have made a decent horror novel. But on top of that it was fun, queer, full of heart and had great characters (especially a very well realized, easy to love protagonist). Now mix all that up with pop culture references and the commentary against the shiny facade of Hollywood, corporations, AI and feeding the algorithms, and you’ve got yourself a spectacular ride. I honestly didn’t want to stop reading this once it got going.

The audiobook for this one was also fantastic! André Santana did most of the narration with cameos/ effects from a bunch of other awesome horror authors. The story is pretty linear, even with the flashbacks, and very entertaining to listen to as an audiobook.

Misha has been a writer in Hollywood for a couple of decades and has had some success with his queer horror films and sci-fi television show. He has a loving boyfriend and the best best friend anyone could want. On top of all of this, now he's up for an Oscar for a short film. Things are going great for Misha.

Until he gets called into a studio executive's office and is told that he needs to kill off his gay characters in the upcoming season finale. Despite potential legal consequences, Misha refuses. He has seen enough queer tragedy; he wants to depict queer joy.

But after his refusal, Misha starts to encounter some of his horror movie monsters in real life. It's not just Misha's art that is at stake -- it's his life, and his friends' lives too.

This book was fantastic. I read Camp Damascus last year and was really impressed with Tingle's layered horror. Bury Your Gays takes things to a whole other level. I feel like this book really showcases his talent and his passion for the themes and subjects here. This works great as a monster horror book, a satire of corporate greed and reliance on algorithms, and is a moving story about a writer's journey to create a space for his sexual identity.

Anyone who is looking for a spooky summer reading book should pick this one up. There were some jump scares in the audiobook that made me gasp out loud. I'm a middle-weight weenie and I was OK with the amount of gore depicted (although one scene with a mobster has me shuddering now).

This book is really, really good and I'm excited to recommend it to other readers.

BURY YOUR GAYS
Chuck Tingle

“Queer characters never get a happy ending.”

Misha is a Hollywood writer working on a popular television series. He writes his television series with interesting plot lines and dynamic characters. His characters are well loved by his audience and Misha unknowingly has grown attached to them over time.

He was just nominated for an Oscar for his current project, but Misha is kind of over the whole experience. His producer tells him the only way to save the plot in the series finale is to kill his darlings, BURY his GAYS.

Not particularly different from prior requests from his producer but somehow this time Misha is conflicted. Why do all the gay characters have to die first, in the most extraordinarily gruesome ways? Why can’t they be written into a happily ever after ending and ride off into the sunset alive and in love?

We follow as Misha’s reality becomes the stuff that horror movies are made of as he tries to reconcile with the junction where his need for survival and his work-related responsibilities meet.

This was fun. I was just watching BODIES, BODIES, BODIES for the first time with my husband and we were guessing who was going to die first. We were both wrong. I won’t say who it was although I’m sure most of you have seen it already. But I will say it was surprising. I love it when that happens.

BURY YOUR GAYS was my first experience with Chuck Tingle. The title got me. I wanted to know what it was about immediately. The cover is striking, and it looked like the perfect book to read in July.

I was not disappointed.

Tingle’s personality comes through so much in BURY YOUR GAYS. Humor is hard to pull off in any book and is much more so for a horror book. BURY YOUR GAYS was done with what felt like effortless execution.

I appreciate how difficult it is to make it feel so easy, BABY!

BURY YOUR GAYS is in stores today.

BURY YOUR GAYS...⭐⭐⭐⭐

Bury Your Gays was quirky, fun, psychological horror woven around the misrepresentation of gay actors, directors and characters in Hollywood, more specifically the film industry, corporate greed and the controversies and possibilities of AI on an extremely magnified level. It was disturbing.

I listened to this on audio and the cast list was so exciting for me - I totally fangirled, not even going to lie - Stephen Graham Jones and CJ Leede?! 😍 It simply did not disappoint. It’s not super gory, so if blood and guts isn’t your thing, Bury Your Gays isn’t heavy on it and would still be enjoyable for you. I loved this one so much and can’t wait for more from Chuck Tingle. Thanks to Tor Nightfire and Macmillan Audio for my advanced audiobook. Bury Your Gays is available today.

Mr. Tingle you have outdone yourself!!
This book was soo good and spooky. I had no idea where this was going. You get psychological horror, technological horror/ethics, corporate greed, and queer erasure/representation and QUEER LOVE. All layered over one another into one fantastic book.

I finished this book in one day. I literally could not put it down.

I really loved this book. It has a great mix of thriller and humor. It was so interesting to follow Misha navigate the emotional horrors of dealing with the Hollywood system while also dealing with literal monsters coming after him. I enjoyed all the little and big references to popular horror properties. This was truly creative and fun. The social critique was totally on point. I can't wait to read more of Chuck Tingle's work.

Happy pub day to Bury Your Gays!

I loved this book and will be very surprised if it’s not in my top 10 for the year. As with Camp Damascus, it’s hard to classify this is just a horror novel. There is gore, there is plenty of suspense and mystery, and even some sci-fi/technology elements. It’s also darkly funny and offers commentary on real world issues, including Hollywood’s instance on burying the gays and how in entertainment most queer stories focus on queer pain and not queer joy. I was engaged and entertained the whole way through.

The audiobook narration was fantastic! There are several narrators and as a fan of horror novels it was such a treat to hear some of my favorite authors pop up. Several times it felt like we were in a movie and reading via audiobook really heightened that experience. The main narrator did a great job of creating a sense of dread and urgency at the right moments. Ten out of ten audiobook experience.

Just to add - Chunk Tingle is a damn delight. Sometimes I just read through his self-published titles and always end up in tears.

Bury Your Gays lives up to the hype. Tingle skillfully balances cynicism, humor, and optimism for the future. I found the main characters loveable and relatable. The scifi horror drives the real-life horrors home.

I was a little nervous about whether the large voice cast would complement or muddy the audio experience. This choice actually ended up enhancing the book for me! The narrator changes are well-timed to make tone and perspective shifts feel more exciting and immersive.

I'm grateful for the chance to check this audio ARC out for free. I'm leaving the review of my own accord.

Thank you so much NetGally and Macmillan audio for the advice audiobook for review. This book is brilliantly funny, heartwarming and horrifying spooky! This book feels like a black mirror episode on crack. It’s super fast paced and the Hollywood backdrop is so much fun. The narrator was great and really brought our MC to life. I also loved the guest narration, it was so random but somehow worked. If you love body horror, creepy monsters and a cast of amazing queer characters then you need to read this ASAP!! I can’t wait to add more Chuck to my library.

What a great and unique book. The audiobook of this was so fun to listen to because of the different narrators and sounds. My only complaint is that there wasn’t more of that POV. I wish we heard more from the third person POV so we could hear the incorporated audio of the bugs, monster sounds, outside weather, etc. Overall, a captivating story that had great LGBTQIA+ representation.

I had a lot of fun with this one! There were a few moments where I caught some second hand embarrassment or just didn't vibe with what was going on, or some scenes just didn't seem necessary (I don't get the whole point of Misha going back to Montana?) Overall, though, I did enjoy this story and I do very much enjoy Chuck Tingle's writing. I greatly look forward to seeing what else he puts out there! I plan to do a longer review later.

Bury your Gays was a fun campy horror ride. This story definitely has a message mixed in with all the gore.

I loved the discussions of queerness in Hollywood media and how only care about greed and money can make and not about the audience.
The scary / killer characters were great and unique.

Chuck Tingle did a great job with the body horror aspect in this book. Definitely made me have a reaction which was fun.
The cast of narrators was great and the ambience sounds t times really added to the story.

The ending was ok and yeah I got the underlying message of what Hollywood is but was like ugghhh ok fine that is the reason.
Thank you to Net Galley, Macmillan Audio and Chuck Tingle for the audio arc of this audiobook in exchange for my honest review.
