This is a sweet tale about a young werewolf and her mummy and how they spend their day, er, I mean night together. It's a charming celebration of a loving parent/child relationship. The author's illustrations are fun, and packed with humorous detail. Though great for Halloween, this one could be read at any time of the year, and is a real treat for little monster lovers.
I had a great time reading this book. Each night these two monsters awaken and Wee Wolf looks forward to what the evening may bring. The illustrations are beautiful and really helped move this clever story along. Wee Wolf isn’t perfect and sometimes makes the tasks of the night tougher to complete in a timely manner. Yet as this story comes to a close we see Wee Wolf happy to have this monster to take care of them.
Eh..... everything about this.... for me, was just ok..... I guess there's not really anything wrong with it....it offers a nice .... idea/concept...... But the drawings/artwork just didn't 'bring me in'.... I felt the wording was 'warm' enough, & they had enough color to them....but I didn't feel that 'warmth' from the illustrations. Reading other reviews, I see that my opinion is a bit of an 'outlier'..... so I'd say.....check it out yourself.... You might find that you like it!
I did receive an e copy of the book from publisher Owlkids Books via NetGalley for review purposes, & this is my own fair/honest review.
Mummy & Me is a cute, Halloween themed story about the love between mother and child. One of the things that really stands out about this book was that it wasn't just focused on the mom helping the child but even more so about the child helping the mom (especially when she feels "undone"). This made it a charming story about how to take care of each other and be there for each other and that kids can care for parents in their own way. This would be a fun, secondary addition to any collection and a sweet gift to any parent or child. Recommended for ages 3-7.
A cute book that has a young werewolf talking about what he and his mummy do, from when they wake up from a good day's sleep until they go to sleep when the sun comes up. Mostly it's an ode to the love between a parent and a child. Fun although not for the youngest set who will miss some of the humor related to mummies and werewolves.
Thank you Netgalley for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book. These opinions are completely my own
Adorable book that makes me miss my Wee Wolf. Perfect for Halloween or any day. Perfect example of monsters being just like us and not scary.
Kids will love the illustrations in this fun story. Despite Wee Wolf's claim of having great manners, the pictures tell a different story. Parents will also appreciate the exhaustion Mummy feels after a long day caring for Wee Wolf. Even though the book is filled with silliness, it shows a realistic and touching relationship between a mother and child.
ADORABLE! Mummy & Me is creepy and cute. The perfect "spooky" but not scary read aloud for younger students. Will definitely be purchasing for our elementary library!
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC!
Mummy & Me: A Monster’s Tale is an adorable and funny children's book written and illustrated by Danesh Mohiuddin. Due out 27th Aug 2024 from Owlkids Books, it's 32 pages and will be available in hardcover format.
Such a funny, quirky, well illustrated kids' book with themes of unconditional love, cooperation, and family (no matter whether we look like our parent(s) or not). There are good takeaways for all ages, though it's aimed at 3-6 year olds (Lexile AD470L).
The illustrations are funny and dynamic with lots of little details that invite readers to spend a little extra time looking at the pictures.
It's a lovely book and is appropriate for all ages. The characters are monsters, but it's not scary at all. It would make a nice gift for any youngster, a good library or classroom book, and a superlative read-to-me book.
Five stars. Funny and positive. Some parts might be wishful thinking on the part of the adults in the room: "So on nights when Mummy is feeling a little undone... I will always be there, too.", but overall it's just a sweetly funny book full of warm feelings. There are some cute plays on words, for example the main character, a werewolf, is called Wee Wolf.
Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes
Thank you Owlkids Books and NetGalley for the advanced electronic review copy of this cute book. Adorably spooky and detailed illustrations and fun story describes a night in a life of mummy and child. Kids would love it so am looking forward to sharing this book with my students.
This was such a sweet book! I always love children's books with spooky characters and this is a great one. The cartoony art style is so fun and engaging. I was impressed with the amount of range and expression the illustrator was able to get when the mummy was basically just two eyes. Very sweet!
Parenting is hard work, exhausting, and absolutely worth it, and this book demonstrates that so well between the caregiving mummy and the Were-pup. Absolutely precious, and will leave anyone who has been in a caregiving position a feeling of being seen, while also having a sweet story to share with their kids.
Cute story about a little monster and her mummy. The story follows the two as they spend the night doing normal mommy and kid things together, only with a monster-y twist. The illustrations were cute and fun as they incorporated different monster spins on the activities. The story ends with a sweet message about the two always being there for each other. Love it!
Very cute! A wonderfully crafted story about family and how they can look different. The art is beautiful and I think kids will get a kick out of the opposite nature of the story.
I received an electronic ARC from Owlkids Books through NetGalley.
Mohiuddin shows that families are families as readers join Wee Wolf and his Mummy for their nightly adventures. We see them engage in usual family activities with a few twists. Younger readers will enjoy the humor in both the text and illustrations, and feel comforted to see a parent and child share together. A fun read aloud for families and classes. Could become a Fall favorite.
Thank you so much for #NetGalley and #OwlKidsBooks for an Arc digital copy of #Mummy&Me:AMonstersTail in exchange for my honest review.
While this story may be too young for the students in my own classroom it doesn’t mean it is not perfect if you have young ones in your life, which I do.
After reading this wonderfully adorable story I will be sure to purchase this story for my baby godson.
What I loved about this story is how Danesh Mohiuddin molds Halloween’s and some educational themes ball into one story. The details in the illustrations were absolutely incredible. I love that the author not only exposes young children to what a mother’s love looks like but how important educational themes such as using an indoor voice and having good table manners are. I truly enjoyed this story
I think this book perfectly demonstrates what "creepy-cute" is. It was so heartwarming and adorable! I'll start with my one and only critique: I think that the drawing on page 9 is a little weird-looking and could be changed a little bit. However, I did like the writing on page 9, I just think that a slightly different illustration would complement the writing better.
Now, there's a lot I liked about this book! Overall, though, it's definitely a sweet book for parents/guardians and kids to read together. It would also make a perfect bedtime story, especially because of the adorable ending. On top of that, it is apparent that the author pays a lot of attention to detail, which is a talent. Including all of the little details about the different world we are in (the one where monsters live) helped to immerse me into the story so, so much. It gave so much personality to the book and was truly delightful. These details were pushed even further with the amazing illustrations.
Great book! Bravo!
I will be purchasing once this is released!
I received and ARC digital copy for review. The illustrations were adorable. Halloween is a favorite holiday in our house and we often read our spooky themed books year round. There was a lot of detail in the depictions and helped with the giggles that went with the content. We are always looking at the detailed of illustrations to see what we can find and these depictions leave a lot to be discovered.
The content is very cute. Another book that affirms a mother's love in a fun and appealing way to littles. I love when children are getting exposure to educational or reassuring messages and they do not even realize it. Great work!
Thank you NetGalley, Danesh Mohiuddin, and Owlkids Books for the digital copy to review.
