When you go for a walk in the city you have the chance to experience hundreds of different things in your immediate and extended community.

This book is all about it’s gorgeous illustrations and would be perfect for a game of I spy as there is so much to see. That said this book illustrates that a walk is a feast for all your senses as there is so much to experience.

Included in this book are guidelines on how to use your senses on a walk, how to keep safe and how to be respectful along with descriptions of the types of people and places that make up a community.

This makes this book a perfect introduction or discussion prompt for a school unit on community or
Community helpers, particular if the class will be going on community walks to explore their own community.

An excellent addition to any children’s, school, city or at home library.

I really loved the illustrations. The story wasn't a narrative which I didn't really enjoy and think didn't really match the illustrations.

A huge thank you to #netgalley and #OwlKidsBooks for an Arc digital copy of #IntheCity in exchange for my honest opinion.
I think while this story is a not a book I could purchase for the students in my classroom as they are older I would recommend to parents with young children particularly between the ages of 3 to around 5 years old that this story would be perfect for them. With its colorful and engaging illustrations young children will be invested in what’s happening for hours on end.

This book is absolutely perfect for young kids to explore and use all of their senses in different and unique settings. But, it is important to note that I really mean it when I say young kids (3-5 yrs). This age range will be entertained by all of the little details in the drawings for hours. The writing at the end of the book is more for parents to read, I would say, but I appreciated that it was there. This is because it gives parents some guidelines/recommendations in order to help kids use their senses in their own lives in the real world, and it allows kids to get involved and apply what they learn from what they read.
The last thing I'll say is about the illustrations. They were really detailed (as I said) and the style they were drawn in will definitely resonate with kids (i.e. using crayons for color). There was just one part that tripped me up that I would make a small change to. When the kids are in the park with the dogs, a kid steps in the dog's poop accidentally, and then the kids go and get ice cream. Chocolate ice cream. That is the same color and shape as the dog poo. To minimize any confusion, an easy fix would be to just change the color of the ice cream (maybe make it strawberry or vanilla ice cream).
Overall, though, kids will be highly engaged with this book and will likely want to read it more than once.

Join a family on an adventure around the city. They'll explore everywhere from dog park to construction sites and even a few shops along the way. Imagine you are in the city with them and use your senses to discover important details. With few words and detailed pictures, this book is a good fit for fans of Richard Scarry and Wimmelbooks.
