This book captivated me right from the introduction, setting a powerful tone as it delves into the life and faith of Joan of Arc. The book's approach—a blend of historical reading and thoughtful, curated prayers—is perfect for a 30-day journey. Though I read it in less than 30-days, I can confidently say that the daily lessons are perfectly designed to deepen the spiritual insight on Joan of Arc and bringing the reader closer to her virtues.
Over the days, the narrative shifts from Joan's point of view was an excellent choice, all while remaining respectful of her legacy. Then through the other days we read about her through other people and the author telling us about her.
Each day, the lessons and prayers offer a profound reflection that aligns perfectly with the story being told. These prayers don't just add to the historical aspect of Joans's life but also provide a way for readers to apply her lessons of resilience, faith, and courage in their own lives.
I am a big fan of the 30-day book like, they're crafted with care and give a truly impactful experience. I highly recommend this.
I knew very little of Joan of Arc's spirituality before reading this book. I've read modern commentary on her but this is the first time I've read first hand accounts. I loved the mix of the historical accounts with daily prayer. While this is meant to be a 30 day personal prayer , I think it would also be great as a group study.
I don't think there was a time in my life when I didn't know who Joan of Arc was, so when I had the opportunity to review "Born for This" I was excited. Joan of Arc didn't write anything during her life, nor was she known for her philosophical religiosity, so I was genuinely curious to see what insight this book would have to offer.
I was blown away by this book. I don't want to belittle it by saying it was simple, but it takes simple stories and incidents and transforms them into spiritual lessons. I have read all the stories and excerpts in this book before, but I have never heard them applied to so many religious meditations. I also appreciated how each lesson wasn't heavy-handed but gave so much room for personal reflection and meditation.
This isn't a book that you read once and forget about. This is something that I know I will return to again and again.
I received a free copy of, Born to Do This, by Joan of Arc, from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Joan of Arc is in a class by herself, Joan of Arc, was only 19 when she died, but we can learn so much from her life. This book is a 30 day devotional, using Joan of Arc's own words. I really cherished this book, and the writing of Joan of Arc.
