Lucy, Michael, and Elena have been friends for always. Unlike many of their middle school classmates, they love to read. Lucy, in particular, is excited to see To Kill a Mockingbird on her summer reading list. A chance encounter with a bookstore manager leads them to the fact that mishelved books are as good as stolen. With that knowledge, the three friends start a guerrilla campaign to hide copies of the book inside their own bookstores and libraries, hoping that with the decreased supply will come an increased demand. When the "I Kill a Mockingbird" takes off bigger than they had imagined, it is up to the three of them to reveal the truth before the summer ends. Recommended for 5th grade and up.

I adored this book about three friend turning literary terrorists during a summer vaccation. All acts done out of good, to get their classmates to read the book their now deceased teacher would have told them to read during the summer. They had the most creative synopsis trying to push the well loved Harper Lee classic "To Kill a Mockingbird"(which surprising none is what the book title refers to): “How about we go online and start a rumor that To Kill a Mockingbird is violent and lewd?” she suggests. “That would get people to read it.” “The story's got rape, murder, lynching, and rabies,” I remind her. “There's also a man named Boo, an old lady drug addict, and a kid dressed up like a pork chop. How are we going to top that?”
The book was a well done story on its own as well as a nice book to lead younger readers to be curious and perhaps picking up the classic somewhere along their reading path because of this book.

Even if you are not a fan of _To Kill a Mockingbird_ you will be putting it on your TBR list after reading this middle grade book. Scarcity makes something more valuable as three friends try to hide copies of Harper Lee's book to make people want to read it Great story.
