I received a free copy of, A Christmas Duet, by Debbie Macomber, from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Hailey Morgan decides to spend Christmas by herself, to get away from her meddling mom, and ex boyfriend. Unfortunately her plans did not happen the way Hailey planned them, or wanted. This was a really good Christmas story, I really enjoyed it.
A solitary vacation trip sparks a woman's rediscovery of her love for music, reminding her that sometimes, sharing the joy with a partner can be even more delightful. This romantic Christmas tale tells the story of Hailey Morgan.
Hailey Morgan's life has always been centered around music. She once aspired to be a professional songwriter, but the realities of everyday life have led her to a job as an assistant high school band teacher in Portland. As the festive season nears, Hailey looks forward to the yearly tradition of spending Christmas with her family, though she often finds herself avoiding her mother's probing inquiries about her romantic life.
When Hailey's close friend offers her the use of her family's vacant cabin for a much-needed break, Hailey seizes the opportunity to do something that will bring her joy. However, her arrival in the quaint town of Podunk, Oregon, is far from tranquil when she discovers the cabin has been taken over by a variety of wild animals. Fortunately, Jay, the son of the town's primary store owner—and a handsome and charismatic musician in his own right—steps in to assist.
Hailey and Jay spend time together, and enjoy making music together. Jay's positive feedback and support encourage Hailey to believe in her dream of becoming a songwriter again. However, family holiday tensions, abound which threaten to disrupt her newfound peace and confidence. Suddenly, Hailey's Christmas haven turns into a winter storm, and Hailey must navigate through these challenges to stand up for herself and fully embrace the holiday spirit.
Hailey doesn't want to spend Christmas with her family, so gets rents a remote cabin. but her family eventually shows up. sweet story
Hailey is excited about Christmas break and the opportunity to write music - her first love. First, she has to dodge her ex-fiance and her meddling mother. She is fortunate to be able to use her friend's family cabin in the woods. When a racoon invades her space, the mayor's son, Jay comes to the rescue. Through small chat, they discover their mutual love for music/writing. Jay encourages her to sing at the holiday festival which goes viral. Her sister Daisy finds her and they reconnect. Daisy is dealing with her own heartbreak. Ironically, her parents and ex-fiance also show up. In spite of her mother's pushing Hailey to get back with her ex, she finds love with Jay, Daisy's ex also shows up to propose. Hailey and Daisy's mom gets the Christmas wish she dreamed of - daughters getting married and the possibly of grandbabies. What a heartwarming Christmas novel! Thank you to NetGalley and Ballantine Books for the ARC.
Hailey will do anything to not have to spend the holidays with her family, even stay in a very remote cabin. Hailey is a music teacher with grand ideas of being a songwriter but never has time for her own music. The holidays seem like the perfect time to concentrate on that. A friend loans her their family cabin so she can write through the holidays. After a few funny incidents with animals she meets a fellow musician. It doesn't hurt that he is friendly and handsome. They start spending a lot of time together. I know you are thinking she should be writing her music. But he becomes some inspiration for her. Then her family shows up. No problem there I'm sure. Will Hailey find love and maybe a hit song? You will just have to check it out for yourself. No spoilers here.
I look forward to Debbie Macomber's Christmas books all year long!!! They never disappoint. She knows just how to take my Grinchiness away and make me feel all the emotions with her heartfelt, wonderfully written stories!

Grab a chair and a blanket, you’ll want to settle in with this one!
✨ Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley.
Time after time, I'm surprised by the creative stories Macomber thinks up. This was no exception. I enjoyed the steady pace of relationships, the rich descriptions, and of course - the romance between Hailey and Jay.
If you want a novel that stirs the heart, warms your emotions, and leaves you happy at the end, this is it. It will also get you in the mood to think about decorating, chopping a Christmas tree, and gathering family around.
"A Christmas Duet" by Debbie Macomber offers a heartwarming tale perfect for the holiday season. The story beautifully captures the essence of Christmas, highlighting themes of love, forgiveness, and second chances. Macomber's characters are relatable, with their emotional journeys resonating deeply with readers. The novel also emphasizes the joy that music can bring to people, showing how it can heal wounds and bring people together. The small-town setting adds a cozy, festive atmosphere that enhances the holiday spirit. The plot, though familiar, is executed with such charm and warmth that it feels comforting rather than clichéd. Macomber's Christmas books are always a must-read during the season, providing a delightful escape into the magic of the holidays. "A Christmas Duet" is so enchanting that it feels predestined for a Hallmark movie adaptation, capturing all the hallmarks of a feel-good holiday film.
Is it Christmas yet? Because I am ready! I am so envious that Hailey had the guts to bail on Christmas—I’ve wanted to do that myself. Sometimes all the holiday activities make me want to curl up under a blanket with hot chocolate and read. And that’s exactly what you should do with this book!
"A Christmas Duet" is a wonderful journey of Hailey rediscovering herself and finding love and support in ways she didn’t expect. Perfect for the holiday season, it’s a heartwarming read that will get you in the festive spirit.
A Christmas duet is another great book by Debbie macomber. Hailey has always loved music and wanted to be a songwriter but ended up as a assistant band teacher. When her meddling mother invites her ex boyfriend, who wants back with Hailey, she takes her friends offer to go to her family cabin for Christmas and not tell anyone where she is so she can write music. When she finds a raccoon living in the cabin she has to contact the store owner. She sends her son, Jay, to get rid of the raccoon. Jay and Hailey hit it off and as he is a musician that brings them closer. A great book with romance too
This is a cozy holiday read that will be perfect for a cooler evening when you want to get lost in a story. Hailey is a young teacher who has drifted away from her passion of music and song-writing. Unexpected holiday stresses lead Hailey to accept an offer to stay alone in a remote cabin over the holidays and embrace the quiet and solitude as she rediscovers her music passion. Hailey embraces the quiet and small town and also is happy to meet Jay, the son of the store owner, who also happens to have a successful music career. Holidays, music, and family form this heart-warming story.
A Christmas Duet is a sweet holiday gem that weaves the magic of Christmas with a beautiful and compelling love story. Debbie, the master storyteller, delves into the themes of forgiveness, acceptance, family dynamics, and the transformative power of love when you find your person.
Hailey's journey of self-discovery and healing is very relatable. You could relate to her mother's meddling and her family's quirkiness and how that shaped who she was. You could also feel that instant spark of chemistry on the page when she meets Jay, the first person to understand her in a long time. Their connection is heartwarming and inspiring.
The exploration of family dynamics, including a meddling mother, regretful ex, and loving sister confused by life, allowed for external interference that added depth and realism because who hasn't experienced family interference in their life? While the mother WAS annoying quite often, it was interesting to watch Hailey grapple with the complex situations while still embracing the spirit of the season.
A Christmas Duet is a heartwarming holiday escape into a world of joy, new love, and second chances. These themes should define everyone's holiday season in some form or another. I wholeheartedly recommend A Christmas Duet as a heartwarming and uplifting read this Christmas.
Hailey Morgan wants to escape her ex-fiancé’s attempts for a reunion and decides to spend Christmas alone in a remote cabin to focus on her music, but her family has other plans.
Susan Mallery is a master at writing small town, feel good romances with lots of emotion.
Let the Christmas season begin.
Thank you Debbie for another enjoyable Christmas read.
This book is about Christmas, love, small towns, and the list goes on.
I see myself reading this again when the weather turns cool and I can have a blanket and fire.
Reading Debbie Macomber's latest Christmas book every year is a long-standing tradition I have. I've loved every single one of them. They brighten my day and I always look forward to them.
A woman in love with music doesn't have her dreams work out the way she had hoped. Settling is what a lot of us do when our dreams don't come true. She settles on becoming a high school band teacher. Several years ago, a relationship didn't work out because he wasn't interested in her dreams and encouraging her, so she walked away from this relationship.
When a close friend suggests she spends Christmas at her family's cabin she's delighted. Breaking from tradition she won't be spending Christmas with her family, but she needs this alone time to regroup.
Upon arriving she's struck by the beauty of the area and can't wait to relax. Not so quick though there's a few wild animals in her remote cabin and Podunk, Oregon, isn't all she thought it would be.
When Jay, the son of the town's store owner helps her out she is taken by his good looks, and it doesn't hurt that he's a musician. As they spend more time together, she comes to realize just how encouraging he can be about her music and talking with him feels as though they've known each other for a long time.
The book explores the mother daughter relationship. A meddling mother needing to know everything about her love life and ready to try to push an old boyfriend on her that the mother really likes. A daughter who knows she needs time away from her family this Christmas so she can grow emotionally and figure out what's best for herself.
An emotional book showing the strength of family relationships and a few surprising twists in the bumpy road we call life. Guaranteed to make you smile and give you a happy feeling as you read.
I was given a complimentary copy of this book.
All opinions expressed are my own.
A Christmas Duet by Debbie Macomber
Love this holiday read. It starts with Hailey and her friend that has a cabin in the woods that is great for escaping the holidays.
They are schoolteachers and Hailey just wants solitude so she can play her guitar and write songs.
She finds out her mom had invited the ex-boyfriend to spend Christmas with them and they makes her run quickly to the cabin.
Problem is when she arrives it's infested with animals, inside. She heads to the local store and finds the woman owner and asks about help.
She sends her son Jay who's also a musician and not only does he rid the place of the raccoon but they also jam several times and lose all track of time.
She finds out more about her and she tells him all about her ex-boyfriend.
Things don't go according to plan. Love the local festivities, similar to ones here in our town.
It's so magical. Love the extra things they do, especially when Daisy her sister shows up. and discusses her love interest.
They have deep sister talks and are closer. Song Hailey had sung at the town sing along went viral and everybody wants to sign her to their music company. Love hearing of the song process.
She has other plans. Then her parents show up and the ex. So twisted and you can't even imagine how things turn out.
Hilarious and festive. Great fun read.

Aww this was my first Debbie Macomber and I really enjoyed it! Reading this on the hottest day of the summer so far was a refuge and such a comfort.
Hailey is a music teacher who's long dreamed of becoming a songwriter. When her overbearing mother invites her ex over for Christmas without asking her, Hailey decides she's had enough and takes her friend's offer of a cabin retreat in Podunk, a small Oregon town where she can relax, recharge and hopefully take up song writing again and meet love.
This was very sweet and felt like a Hallmark movie through and through. I really enjoyed the small town quirkiness and Hailey's free-spirited sister Daisy as well. The love interest was very easy to love. This entire book was easy to love and super charming. I'll be reading more Debbie Macomber for sure, she's lovely.
My endless thanks to NetGalley and Random House - Ballantine for this ARC!
Hailey Morgan is an aspiring songwriter working as an assistant high school band teacher. She loves her family, but is not looking forward to dealing with her meddling mother’s questions about her love life. Her mother wants desperately to be a grandmother. She accepts a friend’s invitation to use her family’s cabin for a Christmas getaway . . . a chance to be alone with her guitar and concentrate on writing her songs . . . at least that was the plan!
The best laid plans . . . The cabin has resident wildlife. Jay to the rescue. If it was only that easy to deal with her family who decide to surprise her so she won’t have to spend Christmas alone.
Ms. Macomber has written another delightful Christmas story. I hope to see The Christmas Duet join her other Hallmark Christmas movies.
Debbie Macomber has written another winner. I can't tell you how many of her books I've read. I particularly love her Christmas books.
The Christmas Duet involves a teacher, Hailey, who really wants to be a songwriter. She lost her confidence while dating her last boyfriend. Can she gain it back?
She needs to get away over the holidays. A perfect opportunity opens up in a remote cottage in Podunk, Oregon. She longs for a quiet two weeks to do what she loves: compose music. Her plan goes all haywire after she meets Jay. He turns her world upside down in the most delightful way.
Have you ever changed your traditional Christmas plans for something new? Did it disappoint your parents, siblings or children? Hailey's mother wasn't too happy and she was going to do something about it.
I loved the story. I finished it in one night. I read this in July but I'm ready for Christmas Debbie Macomber style.
