A cute love story between two sweet characters whose fathers are enemies but mothers play matchmaker ( with the help of Mrs Dove-Lyon) to end the feud ; and of course a villainous cousin trying to keep the lovers apart
My rating 3.5 ⭐️
To save their families from a feud, the two wives Mrs Warsham and Lady Rose seek help with Mrs Dove-Lyon. The plan is for their two children to meet, fall in love and marry and end the feud. But their is a rejected suitor that is not happy with their plan and makes one of his own in this Cinderella romance written by Aviva Orr.
I received a ARC copy from NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.
The Lyon and the Rose of Mayfair by Aviva Orr is a Lyon’s Dens Connected World story about a young woman looking for love and a young man who had the misfortune to be born into the family her father hated. Charlotte does not want to be some old man’s trophy. Hugh was born to a martinet who ruled his household with an iron fist. Charlotte’s father had a heart attack, one her mother thought he brought upon himself. That is how angry he is. It turns out the feud is (was) over Charlotte’s mother. You see where this is going.
Fun romance. Good characters. Some help fro Mrs. Dove-Lyon. A fun little read.
I was invited to read The Lyon and the Rose of Mayfair by Dragonblade. All thoughts an opinions are mine. #Netgalley #Dragonblade #AvivaOrr #TheLyonAndTheRoseOfMayfair
Two best friends decide to stop the feud between their husbands. They approach Mrs. Dove-Lyon with their idea. Arrange for their children to meet. Charlotte Rose is looking at her third season. She's turned down twenty-seven proposals in the last two seasons. She only wants to marry for love. Hugh Warsham has just inherited a large sum of money from his maternal grandfather. In order to receive the full inheritance, he must marry, but not yet, until Mrs. Dove-Lyon arranges a meeting with Charlotte. Will the two fall in love and marriage stop the feud? Very sweet and romantic. One of my favorite series.
Mrs. Dove-Lyon knows all.
I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this book from NetGalley.
Thank you for sharing these wonderful romance novel series books. Please keep writing more of these wonderful books. Thank you
First book I've read by this author and it was a wonderful story to be included in the Lyon's Den series.. Orr included detailed descriptions of the Lyons Den, it's role and the owner, Bessie Dove-Lyon. BDL's role is minimal, but important none the less. She facilitates the match for two meddling mama's. My favorite trop!
Charlotte Rose wants a love match, Hugh Warsham wants a love match as well, just not any time soon, Two feuding families, friends caught in the middle, a run to Gretna Green and a stabbing. This story has everything, including the happily ever after. This was a quick read and you won't be disappointed in the time taken to read. Now, I'm off to find more from this author.

This is the latest book from the Lyons Den.
This is the first book of the Lyons Den that I have ever read. It surely will not be a last! What a lovely story! Just as I was having Brigerton withdraw, this cured it! It was a quick read and had me hooked from page one! I recommend anyone who ejoyes historical romance to give this a shot.

Good book with a feeling of Romeo and Juliet. Charlotte and Hugh are the children of two men who have been feuding for twenty-five years. Charlotte is a beautiful woman preparing to begin her third Season. She wants to marry for love, the way her parents did. But the contenders for her hand aren't interested in her, just winning the "Rose of Mayfair." Hugh is the son of a British general who has served in India until recently. Hugh was studying the law but hated it. He gained reprieve when he received an inheritance from his grandfather. He has been enjoying himself with visits to the Lyon's Den.
But General Warsham's return to London stirred up the feud between him and Charlotte's father. Both stubbornly cling to the feud and refuse to end it. The men's wives have remained friends over the years and will do anything to end the conflict. They concoct the idea of matching Hugh and Charlotte and turn to Mrs. Dove-Lyon for help.
I enjoyed the development of the relationship between Charlotte and Hugh. He is immediately intrigued by Charlotte and can't resist getting to know her better, even though he knows Mrs. Dove-Lyon's reputation for matchmaking. They connect easily and quickly, including sparks of attraction. That attraction flares up during one of their meetings, resulting in an awkward situation. Their relationship is complicated by the interference of a rejected suitor, putting Charlotte in danger. The last part of the book was intense with Hugh's race to the rescue, a life-threatening injury, and some interesting family dynamics.
The epilogue was a good wrap-up and gave a peek into their future.
New author and series for me and I was pleasantly surprised. It was a quick read so it moved really quickly into the meat of the romance. I like that in a book but understand some readers like some angst and these main characters didn’t want to be deceptive with each other so I enjoyed their interactions. There was also some drama from a wronged suitor so that added some excitement. Charlotte and Hugh were both very likeable so you wanted their HEA and the author delivered. Loved the storyline of the Lyons Den so I’ll be picking up more in this series.
Can Love End a Family Feud?
Their fathers have been feuding for decades, and the mothers want an end to the madness. They resort to Mrs. Dove-Lyon for help. She is an excellent matchmaker, but can she bring the children of two enemies together? Unlike their fathers, Charlotte and Hugh are sensible, but can they end a decades'-long feud? They are not sure they can. They have no idea that they are about to fall in love. Love just might give them the strength they need to turn the tide. This is an entertaining historical romance. I enjoyed it and would recommend it.
The rose has rejected so many suitors that she is considered thorny. Hugh Warsham has no idea that a rose is in his very midst, until Mrs. Dove-Lyon gets involve. The feud between the fathers will make it difficult to pursue his rose but he is willing to try for her.
Another Lyons den book to look forward to reading. In this book Mrs. Dove-Lyon is off-standish but does her duty in getting the couple to fall. But the faiths might be too much for them to overcome. The characters are wonderfully written and engaging. I especially enjoyed how the mothers are written in. Strong women and and handsome men.
I received a complementary copy of this book. I was not required to write a positive review.. the opinion I have given is my own. I am disclosing this according to the guidelines.
A Match To End A Feud
The story reminded me a little of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. Charlotte and Hugh are the children of two feuding men whose hatred stretches back decades. Their matchmaking mothers want to end the quarrel and ask Mrs Dove-Lyons for help in setting them up. However, Charlotte and Hugh still have a few obstacles to overcome before they get their happy ending.
The plot is nice and layered with romance, adventure and a touch of steam. The characters are likable. The only thing that bothered me a little was that the author obviously has no idea how long a journey to Scotland in the Regency period really took.
All in all, an entertaining and quick read that I'm happy to recommend!
A feud, a kidnapping, attempted murder and more fill in this fast paced story of Charlotte and Hugh. One of a stories from the Mrs. Dove-Lyon's series, this will keep you fully engaged and on your seat until the last word. Well written with a unique plot line and fantastic characters. Some parental secrets are revealed that surprising both Charlotte and Hugh but it only adds to the story. Each book in the series can be read as a stand alone and allows the readers to experience different authors and styles. A wonderful experience.
I loved the story. It is beautifully written and very entertaining. Charlotte and Hugh make a beautiful couple and their story has a HEA but a lot happens first and not all of it pleasant. It’s good to see that Mrs. Dove-Lyon is still alive and well and doing what she does best. This is definitely a story worth reading.
I received a free copy of this book via Netgalley and are voluntarily leaving a review.
I have read a few books by this author and this novel really stirred me as Charlotte and Hugh's mother colluded with Bessie Dove-Lyon to bring about the end of a 25-year feud between their husbands. Although Charlotte is determined to marry for love, the risk of losing her father to a heart attack makes her put her family before her own desires. Upon meeting Hugh, she realizes that being married to him will be no hardship as he is nothing like his hot-tempered father. There is some drama, a wild chase across the country and keeping out of sight of a greedy man who would claim Charlotte for his own, but despite a last-minute potential disaster, the novel comes to a delightful conclusion. I received a copy of this romance as a gift through Dragonblade Publishing and NetGalley and this is my honest and voluntary review.
Charlotte Rose will settle for nothing less than true love. She’s been dubbed ‘the Rose of Mayfair’ for her extraordinary beauty, Charlotte has low expectations as she prepares to enter her third Season. Hugh Warsham is nothing like his father, a hot-tempered general who spent much of his life in military combat. Hugh studies to be a barrister but finds the work tedious and the long hours torturous. Reprieve comes in the form of an unexpected inheritance from his grandfather. With his newfound fortune, Hugh starts to frequent the Lyon’s Den, delighting in the freedom denied to him in his previous life.
Two warring fathers, two placating mothers & two children who meet & fall for each other. A well written charming novella, which had strong characters & a well paced story. I really liked both Hugh & Charlotte & the chemistry between them. They find love but then a rejected suitor interferes & the pace quickens. A lovely epilogue rounds off the novella
I voluntarily read and reviewed a special copy of this book; all thoughts and opinions are my own
Romeo….I mean Hugh finds Juliette…I mean Charlotte in a very different way, all thanks to Mrs Dove-Lyon! This is a wonderful spin on the Shakespeare -like story with a twist. I adored both Momma’s doing their utmost to corral their very pig-headed husbands. Watching Hugh and Charlotte fall in love was so sweet and the villain gets his due (Yay!) So many times that part is left out , which frustrates me. The characters are well -written and the plot well paced. A truly enjoyable, quick read.
I received this story for free and these are my own opinions
Family, Feuds, Fascinating:
A sweet love story that was not the usual Lady Dove Lyon romance that I have enjoyed reading in prior books of this amazing series.
I did enjoy Hugh and Charlottes characters with each one having wonderful personalities. Together they could have made the pages sizzle, but this author fell short in the passion department. Very tame for a Lyon's Den story.
This is a short story with the normal plot where two people discover love. The story does move at a decent pace with the ending picking up with a bit more excitement until we reach a very happy and heartfelt ending for the family.
My first time reading this author and it did leave me disappointed with very little passion between two characters that could have been so much more.
📖Story rating 3.4
Thank you NetGalley for this connection to the Lyon's Den. Rose and Warsham have a feud going back twenty fie years and Warsham has been in India with his family. The two wives think if their children get together it will end the feud. Charlotte Rose has had many offers of marriage but she turned them down as she was looking for the love her parents have. Bessie will get the two together at her club with Hugh not knowing who she is. It works but a distant cousin of hers which has asked her to marry him is going to be the one who tries to interfere. And so the story goes.
Beauty and the barrister....
I really like unlikely pairings and think that Charlotte Rose and Hugh's pairing is perfect.
Charlotte is known for her beauty, dubbed the Rose of Mayfair, but she has other interests and is more than just her looks.
Hugh was a solider and now is working towards becoming a barrister. He's smart and unlike his father.
Recommend.
