Road Trip Rewind, narrated by Danny Tamberelli and Mara Wilson, is a delightful journey that perfectly captures the essence of 90s nostalgia. The chemistry between the narrators brings their characters to life with humor and warmth.
The story is engaging, filled with twists and turns that keep you hooked from start to finish. Tamberelli and Wilson’s personal experiences as child actors add an authentic touch, making the nostalgia feel relatable and genuine. Whether you grew up in the 90s or just appreciate its cultural references, this audiobook is a must-listen. It's a fun, entertaining ride that will have you reminiscing and laughing along the way.
I really enjoyed this book! I have also read the other book by Danny and Kate Tamberelli. I did enjoy this one more. I enjoyed the characters in this book more as well as the time travel aspect.
Rocco and Bea know each other from another life. At least another life for Bea. She went by Trixie as a young adult and was an actress. Now Bea is a screenwriter with the story of her life…and Rocco is starring as her dad!
I love the nostalgia of the story without it being overly reminiscent. I would definitely recommend this book to any 90s kids that are looking for an enemies to lovers trope.
Perfect for fans of 90s romcoms and second chance romance! The Road Trip Rewind is a super cute time travel romance centered around screenwriter Beatrix and Hollywood A-lister Rocco. The pair meet again when Rocco stars in Beatrix’s screenplay about the most traumatic events of her life. Beatrix is struggling with the intense emotions that come with watching her worst moments be recreated on the screen and to make matters worse, her ex, Rocco, is playing Beatrix’s dad 🫢 Will a trip back in time to the ill-fated week of their break-up be enough to bring Beatrix some clarity?
I had a lot of fun with this book! While I don’t have the same nostalgia for the 90s that the author does, it was still fun to read all the little nods to the time and feel the love that went into the book 💖
Thank you to NetGalley and Highbridge Audio for providing me with an ARC of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review!!

Thank you NetGalley and publisher for this arc!
What a great book!! I loved the story and the writing style. Such a good romcom! It was exciting from page 1! I enjoyed this more than I thought I would! My first for this author but will not be my last!

The Road Trip Rewind is an entertaining if uneven time travel second-chance romance. Great for a summer beach read with a speculative twist.
Mara Wilson did an excellent job providing narration for the audiobook; co-author Danny Tamberelli did a decent and fully coherent job as well, however, his voice doesn’t really lend itself to that of a romantic lead, to the point I was distracted and frequently pulled out of the story. This may be a matter of personal taste, so take this with a grain of salt.
Thank you Kate Tamberelli, Danny Tamberelli, HighBridge Audio, and NetGalley for providing this ARC for review consideration. All opinions expressed are my own.
The road trip rewind is a time travel romantic comedy, in which two former lovers accidentally travel back in time to do…. — yes, what exactly?!? I guess that is what we are supposed to find out.
This could have been a great book, had I been able to like the MC, Rocco, and forgive his previous behavior. What happened is that he essentially ghosted Beatrix, our FMC, when they were in their twenties in favor of dating someone else. I understand that everyone makes mistakes and if you’re young and naïve you can just act on impulse and maybe looking back you do not even understand what you were thinking, or you might just feel like a different person. But this rational does not help when you are constantly seeing that younger version of Rocco interacting with the younger Beatrix and acting like he is in love. For me, this behavior did just not fit together and seemed like even more of a betrayal than if he had acted more coldly towards Beatrix in the past. How can you go from spending almost all your time together, having no problems with each other, to no contact so quickly?
If we had been told this story trough flashbacks or through their conversations, it could be argued that each of them remembers their relationship differently, details would be fuzzy and the emotions less fresh. But as we get to see their past relationship unfold minute by minute, nothing is warped by time and everything is rawer. Rocco really acted that in love, they really spent that much time together (he really didn’t even buy a second pillow for her to sleep on) and then he really just forgot about her.
Even worse, Rocco barely learns from seeing any of this, even as his older self, his actions are almost all to Beatrix's detriment. He argues that what he did was not cheating, as they had not defined their relationship and Rocco owed Beatrix nothing. This is just an excuse for sh*tty behavior and does not change the fact that he broke Beatrix's heart and trust. I understand that she got over it in the end but reading about it ‘in real time’ did not give me enough time to get over his behavior, even as a reader. Usually there is a great reveal in second chance romances, why a miscommunication happened or that he really didn’t cheat on her after all, but that doesn’t happen here. And there really is no rationale behind his actions that would make it okay in my eyes.
If I had known about this set-up of the story, I would not have picked up this book. Because what is described here is cheating to me, and it is a no-go in a love story for me, even if it is a second chance one.
Let’s finish with some aspects I enjoyed:
I did like most of the throwbacks and Beatrix's attitude to everything. I love the music that was mentioned and the overall vibe I got from it, and the fact that Beatrix's car was almost a third protagonist. I also enjoyed the perspective of time travel being treated like real travel where they take advantage of the 90s culture, have a little road trip and even bring souvenirs.
This book had a lot of potential for me, if Rocco had been more likable and there had been a misunderstanding back than rather than Rocco actually choosing someone else over Beatrix, this book could have been a four-star read.
I listened to the audiobook, and I'm sorry to say that Danny Tamberelli doing the narration of the male perspective kind of ruined the experience for me. There were no nuances to his narration. He sounded skeptical, flustered and full of self-doubt throughout the entire audiobook, when I am sure that was not what the character was supposed to reflect. The voiceover was choppy, you could really hear him think about what he is reading next. There was also no voice acting whatsoever, even when it came to reading other characters' speech. This made the listening experience a strain instead of the laid-back listens I am used to.
I also think that Danny Tamberelli does not have the right voice for a love interest in a romantic comedy, and his voice just did not suit the movie star heartthrob that is described in the book.
It seems like one of those cases where no one objected to him being a narrator because it is Danny Tamberelli’s project and not because he has any narration skills.
I think it's a great effort when authors voice their own audiobooks, but this task is way harder than it might seem and actually requires a lot of training and skill. At this skill level, please leave it to the professional narrator’s next time! I was always glad when the point of view changed to the female narrator, because she did a fantastic job.
Thank you to NetGalley and HighBridge Audio for gifting me this ALC of the audiobook to review. All opinions are my own. I was not paid to leave this review.
When Beatrix's dream of having her script in production is realized, nothing could dampen her excitement. Or could it? When her ex from long ago doesn't even recognize her and she has to help him play her father, things get heated. Then they go back in time and fall back in love. But they also change the future. Now Beatrix has to work with her ex's ex-girlfriend. The one he left Beatrix for and to top it she is playing her mother. Love triumpths in the end.
This was a really enjoyable audiobook. I loved that there were two different narrators, one for Beatrix and one for Rocco. In this story, Beatrix is a screenwriter whose autobiographical movie about her famous author father is coming to life. Rocco Riziero plays her father and Beatrix seems to find fault in nearly everything he does. Rocco is used to being a star that people fall over themselves to compliment, and he is confused about the disdain Beatrix shows him. They meet to discuss this at a local coffee shop. He finally realizes that Beatrix is his ex-girlfriend Trixie. Their 1990's romance ended when Rocco was found kissing another woman on New Year's Eve.
Through a series of circumstances, Beatrix gives Rocco a ride home, and as they pass the site of that fateful New Year's Eve party, they are in a car accident. That accident somehow transports them back to 1999. They have the opportunity to make some small changes - but is it enough?
I enjoyed the storyline, the blast back to 1999, and the chemistry between Rocco and Bea. I enjoyed the story and that some characters from the authors' first book, First Date Prophecy are in this book too. I would highly recommend this story to anyone who loves the 90's and who likes a good second chance romance.

Beatrix Noel is making it big as a screenwriter telling her own personal story through the big screen. Rocco Riziero, A-list actor that previously broke her heart, is unfortunately starring in something she holds so dear to her heart, and what’s worse is he seems to have forgotten who she is! After a confrontational meeting that ends in a car accident, the two are transported together back to the time when everything went wrong between them, 1999. Together they work through their past and try to right their wrongs while reliving the golden era of the 90s.
Overall, I enjoyed this book. It was the perfect nostalgic 90s book that took me back to another time! I never fell in love with Beatrix and Rocco, but their story was cute. I just wish they dug a little deeper into their relationship. While I may not have been into the romance, I personally LOVED the relationship between Beatrix and her Dad. It definitely brought tears to my eyes and tugged at my heart strings. I wish we got more of their relationship in the book!
I really liked the narrator for Beatrix. She pulled me back into the story for her chapters. Danny Tamberelli as Rocco took me out of it for his chapters. The goofball voice just didn’t fit serious actor for me. I love dual POV that actually has two narrators, so that was a huge plus!
Thank you to NetGalley and RBmedia for providing me with an audio ARC in exchange for my honest opinion!
A screenwriter and the actor who's starring in the film she wrote about her father have some history, and when they reunite, they literally crash back into that history -- back to the eve of Y2K when they were teen stars.
This was a fun, nostalgic time travel romance, and what made it extra appealing was the fact that it was both co-written and co-narrated by Danny Tamberelli of Nickelodeon fame. The other narrator of the audiobook? Everyone's favorite nondysfunctional former child star, Mara Wilson! 😍 It was so fun to hear them together on this one and so cool that Danny wrote this book with his wife, Kate. I have a soft spot for the authors because they are toddler parents, too. Totally unrelated to the book, sorry. Anyway...
I really loved these characters and the journey they took from 2016 to 1999 and back again. I thought there was just the right amount of conflict, tension, chemistry, and heat. It's hard for me not to like this one. Was it perfect? Nah. (I thought it was weird that Rocko didn't recognize Beatrix at first if they had dated.) But I can tell it was a passion project for all involved, and it's hard to find fault with that. And yeah, as a product of the '90s and early 2000s, I'm definitely biased. Sue me. 🙃
4.5 stars.
Entertaining and engaging. A recommended purchase for collections where contemporary romance is popular.
If Freaky Friday and How To Fake It in Hollywood had a baby it would be this book!
Coworkers to lovers to enemies to….
Lots of tropes in this one including time travel!
Books about grief always tug at my heart and after losing my own dad 12 years ago listening to B’s own journey with her father’s death pulled at my heart strings.
The ending was just perfect! Also loved this was written by a husband and wife…how sweet!
This was such a sweet and fun read! I loved the time travel and 2nd chance romance. The characters were both loveable and I was rooting for them the whole time. The pacing and writing were well done too. The narrators weren’t my favorite but I did love that there were dual narrators for the dual POVs. An all around good book and I can’t wait to read more from this author!
I loved the first book in this series, even though it was a little weird. So when I saw this on NetGalley, I had to request it as soon as I realised it was another in a series. One of the best things about this audio book is Danny Tamborelli's narration. He reads the book with so much feeling. It is fantastic. But the story was also fantastic. I was so invested in Rocco and Bee's relationship, how it would develop and if they would ever get home. The car had a character all of it's own. The cameos from the first book were also lots of fun. The spice was wonderful. If you are looking for a fun but romantic book, with angst and a 3rd act break up, then this is for you!
Big thanks to NetGalley, Highbridge Audio, and Kate and Danny
I really enjoyed the premise of this book. The dual story lines with both protagonists makes for a well rounded story.
Thanks so much to NetGalley, the authors and Kensington Books for providing me with an advanced listener copy in exchange for a honest review. This was a fun and nostalgic read. I loved how the characters were older and that the second chance at love trope. Witnessing the two main characters travel through time to the 90s kept me entertained, but I felt like the romance almost came on too suddenly - I also prefer a bit more open door romance instead because of just alluding to it. I felt like it missed that form of vulnerability, which made me not completely believe in the story.
The best part of the story was Beatrix being able to change a part of her past… without saying too much, it was really heartwarming.
Both narrators did a good job! I thought it was super cool that the one author narrated as well. I just felt like his part was a bit unpolished (eg. hearing him take deep breaths in between lines.)
Overall rating: 3.5/5 (rounded up)
This is a very sweet time travel story, with family drama and an enemies-to-lovers romance set amidst the trials of the show biz life. It follows—although is not truly a sequel to—The First Date Prophecy, that the husband-and-wife authors published last year. Rocco, the male lead, is the brother of Rudy, the male lead in that book. Rudy and girlfriend Lucy make cameos here, but this book can absolutely be read without having read the first book. The story of Rocco and Beatrix is both an exploration of the trauma of Bea’s life—the fact that her father died while they were estranged—and a fun romp through the Y2K era. Rocco and Bea are forced to reckon with their pasts (separately and collectively) and try to change their future, but it does not turn out exactly as they hope. The audiobook is a delight and I loved this story thanks to both well-written characters and the joy of time travel. I received a copy of the audiobook from NetGalley and in exchange I am providing an honest review.
Time travel books are turning out to not be my forte. The suspension of disbelief is fine; I get bogged down by the "science" of it: What is our future selves notice our past selves?! This is too much for my brain to process when trying to read for enjoyment. I also didn't really get the chemistry of the main characters OR why Beatrix got mad at Rocco when they got "back"? I don't know, just not for me I think!
If you love Back to the Future, this book is for you! I won’t lie, the beginning dragged a bit and left my struggling but once the story got going I was hooked. I really enjoyed the time travel aspect and all things space time continuum. The love story of Bea and Rocco was perfect as well. To see Bea finally let her walls down and for Rocco to prove who he really is. But the best highlight was all of the 90s nostalgia. This book is truly a mix of Back to the future and a rom com.
