Thank you RBMedia and Netgalley for the Advanced Reader Copy. This novel tells the story about the past, present and two people navigating life and their relationship with each other. I enjoyed this audiobook but didn't love it. I found the dialogue to be awkward at times and didn't flow right with the audiobook. I enjoyed the dual POV and having two narrators, which is my favorite way for a romance to be organized.
This was another cute book by 90's Nickelodeon child star Danny Tamberelli and his wife Kate!
While this is the sequel to The First Date Prophecy, it does not follow the same characters. This one follows Rudy's brother Rocco and Beatrix (Bea).
Beatrix is making a movie based on her late father's life. He was wrongly convicted of murder and she didn't believe he was innocent until it was too late. Starring in her movie is Rocco Riziero who was in a relationship with Beatrix back in 1999. She remembers vividly catching him with Piper (the same person who broke apart Rudy and Rocco's relationship) at a New Year's Eve party, but he doesn't remember her. Once she comes clean about why she is treating him badly, they get in a car accident and are transported back to that fateful time in 1999. Are they supposed to change or fix the future?
Bea was a great character, she was flawed but smart and compassionate. Rocco, we knew a little bit from The First Date Prophecy, but he was more mature than the girlfriend stealing brother was depicted as then.
I loved the contrast between how Bea and Rocco interacted at the beginning when the movie was filming and then when they found themselves in 1999 and had to act as a team to figure out how to get back to their own time. I loved all the '90's references, Danny was actually referenced in the book as "that red-head from All That" or something which made me laugh (All That was one of my favorite shows). I liked what happened in 1999 which I don't want to give away, but it was so heartwarming. We then had about 25% left of the book when they came back to 2016 which I felt would be the end, them finding their way back, but a lot happened. Things changed, and not for the better while they were "away." The epilogue was perfect in my mind. It really brought everything full circle and ended in such a great way.
For the audiobook, Danny narrated Rocco's part and Mara Wilson (who played Matilda) narrated Bea's part. They both narrated in The First Date Prophecy and I welcomed them back in this one. Danny has such character in his voice and he really makes it seem like he is talking to a friend while narrating. Mara does a great job too, bringing a lot of character into Bea's part.
This was such a fun romance with a great nod to the '90's that I think a lot of people will love!
First thing’s first: thank you Netgalley for the ALC of this book!
The Road Trip Rewind was a second chance romance about Beatrix, an up and coming screenwriter, and Rocco, a well loved Hollywood star. Rocco is cast in Beatrix’s passion project and doesn’t recognize her as the woman he blew off in favor of a popular starlet in 1999. They end up thrust back in time together, back to the very same part of 1999 where things went wrong. They have to work together to correct their mistakes in hopes of making it back to 2016 without changing too much of their future.
I really enjoyed this book! I thought it was funny and sweet and this was a well done second chance romance IMO. Second chance is not one of my favorite romance tropes, but it worked so well for this story. I loved the character development and the way they interacted. My biggest complaint was the male narrator- I really didn’t love the cadence of his voice 😬 the way he narrated sounded so bizarre and choppy. The female narrator did a great job, though!
3.5⭐️
I enjoyed this book and the old 90's references. I loved the female narrator and her character. The male narrator was super intense and his perspective didn't actually match the female's view of Rocko, I liked the plot and would've loved a little more information on what actually happened with B's dad. Fun summer read! I will read their first book now because of this book.
Screenwriter Beatrice reconnects with her old flame Rocco. After an auto accident, however, they travel unexpectedly back to 1999. Thrown back into the time of pagers, flare jeans, and the Y2K scare, they must find a way to get along with each other long enough to get back to 2016. And they have to do it without calling too much attention to themselves.
When I realized that this book was written by one of my favorite child actors from Nickelodeon's Pete and Pete and All That, I knew I wanted to give the book a chance. For me, I felt it started out a bit slow, but it quickly gained momentum. There was SO much nostalgia mixed in that it was like reliving my own childhood. The only thing missing was author Danny Tamberelli getting slimed!
I did listen to this book on audio, and just wanted to mention quickly that I found the narrators did a very good job. They portrayed their respective characters well, and I had no issues at all when it came to following the story.
Overall, I would rate this book 4 stars. I loved the blast from the past and the believable characters. It had me reminiscing about where I was and what I was doing on New Year's Eve when Y2K was about to hit.
🧚🏻A HUGE thank you goes out to NetGalley, HighBridge Audio, and authors Kate and Danny Tamberelli for providing me with a free copy of this audiobook in exchange for my honest review.
Thank you to Netgalley and Kensington Books for my #gifted copy. My opinions are my own. I listened to the audiobook. The narrators were great!
Beatrix or Bea Noel's true-life story is coming to fruition on the big screen and starring her almost ex, Rocco Riziero, who doesn't even remember her. Bea gives Rocco a really hard time; Shes standoffish, withholds praise and warmth. In fact, she's kind of cold to Rocco. Wanting to figure Bea out and why she's so cold to him, Rocco sets up a coffee meeting to has it out. He discovers who Beatrix was, Trixie, the girl he left behind for Piper, his co-star.
While bickering, they get into a car crash, somehow going back in time, to 1999. Will Bea and Rocco make amends? Does Bea seek out her Dad, on his deathbed, asking for forgiveness? Will they ever get back home?
My thoughts:
I LOVED this enemies-to-lovers, second chance magical romance! Bea and Rocco's witty banter made this book come alive. I enjoyed their love story and especially loved the ending! Such a funny, sweet, heart-breaking read! I didn't want it to end!
Fans of Lucy Score and Tessa Bailey will enjoy this one! Looking forward to more by this author.
Thank you so dang much HighBridge Audio and NetGalley for this ALC!!!
Loved: Danny Tamberelli and Mara Wilson as Rocco and Bea, Delilah (bc all cars need names), and all the 90’s things. My heart is sooooooo happy in nostalgia.
Liked: Tower Records, rock carving, and HAVE YOU SEEN THE COVER???
Dislike: not applicable
I'll start with the positives. I really liked the narrators. I also enjoyed the nostalgia of this book. However, I couldn't get past the fact that the FMC is still hung up on the MMC after 17 years and he doesn't remember her at all. That in itself just makes this not the book for me. Might be for someone else though.
Thanks NetGalley for the ARC of this book! Time travel books are super fun and exciting. This one was really good and had a lot of good development between the characters. Some parts fell flat for me and I just felt like I needed to push through some of those slow scenes. Other than some lulls in the story the book was good.
If you're a fan of fun, nostalgic romantic comedies this is definitely a book for you! The descriptions of a time that is very familiar to many of us, were spot on. The story was quirky and fun and the romance was adorable. It had nuances similar to a Christina Lauren or Alice Clayton book, I really enjoyed it.
Thanks to NetGalley and HighBridge Audio for the advanced audio book.
Speculative elements in a novel can either go really right or...not. Unfortunately, the speculative element (where the two main characters are thrust back in time while driving in Los Angeles) didn't work for me and made falling into the flow of the story really hard.
I don't know what it was with this book but it just wasn't for me.
I really wish that wasn't the case but I guess I had too high hopes for it
i was not expecting to like this book at first because i was confused on how ti was going to progress but i was not at all disappointed.
the characters and their conflicts felt so real and i like how the bickering was significant to the story because at first i thought the FMC just hated life or something lol
also, time travel? always a yes in my book
What a delightful read!
I loved everything about this story!!
So...we have Beatrix Noel. She's a screenwriter whose movie is just being made. She's thrilled! Except for one thing. The guy they cast as the MMC of the movie is her ex from 1999...and he doesn't even remember who she is!! So, she decides that since she has no choice in the matter, she is going to make life very difficult for him...and she does! (Hysterically so!!)
Rocco Riziero is the MMC. He's a heartthrob and has girls following him wherever he goes. He has absolutely no idea why the screenwriter hates him so! ??? !
He asks her to meet up with him for coffee one day, off set, to talk. They do, but it only makes matters worse! =0
She gets in her car and starts sobbing. He gets in his car to find it is DEAD.
So, he goes over to her, head hanging, to ask for a ride home. She reluctantly agrees, and they're off.
BUT, as they are driving something very strange happens in her little old VW.
They've gotten into an accident!
But no, that's not it. There's no damage and neither of them are hurt???
And, weird thing is, they are right in front of the Roxy. The start of their end in 1999...
But as they get out of the car to explore, they realize that something is very wrong! No one is holding a cell phone. There's a Tower Records on the corner, and they've been out of business for years ??? And none of the cars on the street are newer than late 90's... WHAT. Is. Going. On???
And so, here they are, in the past! But why? And how do they get back? And what are they supposed to do now??
So sweet in so many ways! And wow, if only I could go back to the 90's... There would be so many things I'd want to change!!!
Thanks so much to #NetGalley and #HighBridgeAudio for an ARC of the audiobook in exchange for an honest review! I feel so lucky to have gotten this one!! 🙂
THIS IS DUE TO RELEASE TOMORROW, 6/18/24…so look for it then!

The female perspectives of this book were wonderful. I loved the narrator and was able to understand and empathize with the character.
Typically I love author-narrators because it helps me better understand how a book was written and intended. This is the MAJOR exception. Danny Tamberelli's voice is like nails on a chalk board. The jersey accent and his voice makes the character of Rocco entirely unbelievable. No one is fawning over a man who sounds like that.
It honestly ruined a perfectly good book for me. I wish I would have been able to just read his chapters, so that I could present a less biased review. The book is good but avoid the audiobook!
Thank you to Net Galley and HighBridge Audio for the advanced copy.
As a member of the Class of 1999 and having grown up in LA, this book was full of nostalgia that absolutely resonated with me. I am the target audience. It leaned heavily on that nostalgia via so many references that I suspect much will be lost on younger readers (cries in over 40). The story was fun and heartfelt. Overall: it is a cute, easy read that will appeal to those who remembering this era fondly.
Thank you Netgalley and HighBridge Audio
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
This story is such a fun book with a time loop and second chance rom-com and them going in the past can fix there mistakes from past. Very fun unique plot and dual point view was done well with the narration with both narrators
This was such a fun blast from the past! I don't know Danny Tamberelli from his Nickelodeon days but even still, I enjoyed this dual POV (dual narrator) time-travel rom com. As someone who vividly remembers Y2K and lots of the throwbacks/references and a reader who loves second chance romances, this novel had a fun and unique plot. Thank you to NetGalley and HighBridge Audio for an early audio copy in exchange for my honest review!
Thanks to #NetGalley for this blast from the past listen. The audiobook comes out June 18th. Zima, Jay and Silent Bob, Sixth Sense, Y2K, and The Hunger 🎶 Dual POV, 2nd chance romcom, time travel (little far fetched but a fun read so I’m overlooking that! 😉) I did not realize this was a follow up to another book but it was fine as a stand alone. I give this one 4 very fun stars!!
This was such a fun dual POV, second chance time loop romance that sees an A list actor and the writer of the new movie he's working on forced together as they travel back in time and get a chance to fix past regrets and mistakes. Fresh and funny with lots of emotional depth, this was great on audio narrated by one of the authors and Mara Wilson and perfect for fans of books like This spells love by Kate Robb. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early audio copy in exchange for my honest review!
