With helpful ghost haunting the protagonist, she stumbles through her investigation to try clear her name of murder. It was unexpectedly humorous at times and I loved the cast of characters, especially the ghosts. I found the writing engaging and loved the moments where all I could do was shake my head at the missteps. Definitely will recommend to my fellow cozy readers.
This was a good first book in the series. I like the premise of the story. I also like that the main character had to deal with consequences of her decisions. The ghost tour aspect was fun as well.
#HauntingandHomicide #NetGalley is the first in a new series by Amber Camp.
Tallulah "Lou" is a bit of a paranormal expert, after all, she has been communicating with ghosts for years.
While trying to create her own unique haunted walking tour, Lou finds herself mixed up in a murder investigation, and this ghost is anxious to talk!
I like this storyline so far, I'm looking forward to reading more in this new series.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for selecting me to read an advanced copy of this book.
**Review of "Haunting and Homicide" by Amber Camp**
Rating: 3/5
Amber Camp's "Haunting and Homicide" is a cozy mystery set in the atmospheric streets of New Orleans, where ghost tours and supernatural encounters are part of everyday life. Perfect for fans of Amanda Flower and Ellen Byron, this novel blends murder, ghosts, and a touch of romance into an engaging whodunit.
The protagonist, Tallulah "Lou" Thatcher, has a unique gift: she can see and communicate with ghosts. This ability makes her a popular host for ghost tours in the historic Garden District. However, when her rival tour guide, Adam Brandt, is found murdered and Lou becomes the prime suspect, her life takes a dangerous turn.
Camp skillfully sets the stage with a compelling premise: Lou must clear her name by delving into Adam's business dealings, personal relationships, and past grievances. The narrative unfolds with a good mix of suspense and humor, keeping readers engaged as Lou navigates through clues and red herrings to uncover the truth.
One of the strengths of the novel lies in its vivid portrayal of New Orleans as a backdrop, rich in history and folklore. The ghostly elements add a supernatural twist that enhances the cozy mystery atmosphere, though some readers might find the ghost tours and paranormal encounters a bit predictable.
The character dynamics, particularly between Lou and detective Dylan Finch, her longtime crush and ally in the investigation, add a layer of romantic tension that complements the main plot. Lou's determination to prove her innocence and protect herself from the real killer drives the story forward, leading to a satisfying resolution.
While "Haunting and Homicide" delivers an enjoyable mystery with a unique supernatural twist, it occasionally leans into familiar tropes of the cozy mystery genre. Some plot developments may be anticipated by seasoned mystery readers, but overall, Amber Camp's novel offers a light-hearted and entertaining read for fans of paranormal mysteries and amateur sleuths.
Amber Camp's new series- Ghost Tour Mystery-and Haunting and Homicide is book one. What a great start to a new cozy mystery set. Can't wait for more.
