Laughed a lot and had fun.
In Italian we say that the guest is like fish: it smells after 3 days
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher for this ARC, all opinions are mine
Super cute book. Really enjoyed the stories and illustrations. You will chuckle along as you read which makes for a great time.
I just loved this book. It is parts informative and very funny. The author presents various places you maybe invited to as a house guest. He explains what you should expect and some basic rules to follow. It was a quick humorous read. It will make a great gift for house guests
A delightfully insightful and often humorous guide to the art of being a gracious guest. Original and quirky illustrations. An entertaining guide to navigating the experience of being (or hosting) a house guest.
Guestiquette is a funny and useful guide for anyone who’s ever been a houseguest or a host. Packed with practical advice, funny stories, and quirky illustrations, it covers everything from dealing with pets to surviving a zombie apocalypse while staying at someone’s place. This book is perfect for anyone who wants to navigate the houseguest experience with a good laugh.
Seriously is common sense and decency dead? I mean, I can understand differences in culture but what in the world Natalia? Okay, to be fair, I've been the house guest from hell when I was younger but I swear I'll never have houseguests ever! This is both amusing and horrifying plus I'm kind of hung up on what's happened to people I've never met and hopefully, will never meet. So, read at your own risk!
I took my time reading this to stretch out my enjoyment. I actually laughed out loud a few times, and I especially loved the short stories by people who had, um, interesting guest experiences. Like, what would it be like for someone who doesn't know anything about Thanksgiving to host it? What would you do if you found out you were staying in the wrong place for a week?
Besides the funny stories, the advice is practical and accurate. Everything from gifts to the need to say goodbye to how to check in at various venues -- and every kind of venue was covered, from different kinds of paid experiences to friends and family. This is a great gift book, a fun coffee table book, and even a book to share with children (although you might leave out a few parts for the youngest readers).
Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this.
3.5 stars, rounded up. 3 stars as a sit-and-actively-read-this book. 4 stars as a sit-on-the-coffee-table-and-read-over-the-course-of-a-year book.
This was a very cute read and I loved the humor. I very much enjoyed the format of the book, which included sections of advice/etiquette, short passages of real life stories from others, and infographics/illustrations. Despite having the other components to break up the etiquette part of the book, it unfortunately still felt a bit repetitive as the book went on. At roughly a third of the way through, it started to feel like, “yeah, I get it.”
That said, I think it was all very well written and clever in its humor. To more thoroughly enjoy the entire book, I think it would need to be consumed over a longer period of time with long breaks between chapters. Would be a fun houseguest or host gift (if it could be given without seeming too pointed).
I would like to thank NetGalley, Andrews McMeel Publishing, and the author for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Tom Coleman makes a real survey of all the situations when you may appear at someone's door as a guest. The illustrations are nice and evry original, not robotic, and the anecdotes are real gems.
Thank you to the author and the publisher, all opinions are mine.
Accuracy and humour. They are two things that I love and this book ticks both of those boxes.
This book is for anyone who has been a host or a guest!
Having been both a host and a guest, I can attest to the accuracy of this book. And as a fan of humour, I can attest that this book is funny and at times, laugh-out-loud funny. The anecdotes were great and the illustrations very cute. The acknowledgements were also worth reading. Thank you to Negalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for the advance reader copy.
This book is just the same joke over and over again and it gets really grating after a while. The art also doesn't really help all that much. Just feels like it was slapped together quickly for no reason.
