The art here is wonderful. I absolutely love the art style and the adorable little cats! Which is why I hate to complain about anything done by artists. It's just that I personally didn't enjoy it as a book. I think some of the individual comics were lovely and the art as a whole was beautiful but a lot of pages were just drawings of cats with affirmations and motivational quotes.
If that's something you find to your liking then that's great but I was a bit bored?
Yeah, I hate to give this critique but maybe it's just not my cup of tea and others might enjoy it more.
If a book has kittens and inspiring messages, as well as fun moments and more kittens... I'll be there.
The Books of the Purrs is a short comic, which does not have a reading line. You can open it wherever you want, read what you want and continue at another time. It has beautiful, simple, commanding messages.
The illustrations are cute, a little repetitive but at the end of the day, they fulfill their function.
I don't know what kittens Luis Coelho may have come across, but none of the cats I've had wanted to bite me. He took it as something quite common and has MANY scenes like that. Weird 😆
Thank you Andrews McMeel Publishing for the ARC I read on Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
These illustrations are so cute! I’ve seen some before on social media but havin them all together in a collection like that is so much better. It’s a perfect gift for catlovers or for someone who needs a cheer-up! The texts are motivational and have a wonderful message.
As a mother of 2 cats, I approve.
This book was an absolute joy to read.
The artwork was beautifully done, and I loved the rhyming throughout the book.
This is a wonderful gift for cat and comic lovers full of funny, sweet, and relatable lines.
Thank you NetGalley for this ARC of The Book of Purrs

"What if you talked to yourself the way you talk to cats"
This is an absolutely adorable book! Ok I am a tab bit bias as I have an adorable black cat, but I loved everything about it, wonderful little reminders to hush our inner critic
This is a really cute book full of mini cat comics. Perfect for someone looking for something light and humorous to read, with a dash of kitty darkness added in.
The Book of Purrs is the perfect book for a cat lover or friend of a cat lover….because you need to make an effort to understand your friend’s love for a creature that will love you one minute and then pretend you don’t exist in the next. Purring is the way cats show contentment, and The Book of Purrs will convey that same feeling to you as you read this book.
These cartoon panels show Portuguese illustrator Luis Coelho's famous line drawings , wide eyed cats expressing feline truisms as well as commentary on everyday life that border on Zen reflections. They will make you smile and cause you to ruminate on how such a simple thought can be so powerful.
“Sometimes anxiety is a liar in our own head” says the cat on page 11
Everything about this collection from the presentation of the panels, to the inspiration behind the actual drawings is perfect. I would not change a thing. ….
as the panel on page 83 says “May the Purr Be With You”
I've been following and loving @purr.in.ink art for a long time now, so when I found out that there was a book coming out, I immediately wanted to read it.
This was a very fast read, but one that definitely sticks with you. It's the kind of book (like the author says) that you can open on a random page everyday and have something funny, cute, or uplifting. There's lots of kitties inside this book just waiting to make you smile.
A great book for everyone, but I feel it resonates especially with cat lovers, and people who struggle with anxiety.
Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for a digital ARC in return for an honest review.
So very cute! I have been following the artist and am so glad that they are in book form!
The art is cute and the messaging is sweet, fun, and inspirational.
This would be a great gift.
These are absolutely great. Super cute, funny, and all the feels. Will definitely have to share this with my daughter which I know she’ll love as well.
I received this as an ARC from NetGalley for an honest review.
GET THIS BOOK!
This book is funny, heartwarming, emotional, uplifting, beautiful...just perfect.
I just purchased a black kitten for my 17 year old. She begged and begged for an orange but this little black kitten stole her heart. This kitten is our burnt orange TERROR! But she's also perfect. I joke about her being like that commercial "first she's sweet then she's sour then back to sweet".
This book captures the essence of how awesome perfect and annoying cats can be. This book is basically self care. I immediately ordered a hard copy.
This book is so cute. I would love to have it as a coffee table book for all my cat loving friends to look at when they come over. I have 4 cats myself and can definitely see them making some of these comments. Then again, some of these seem too nice to be my cats!
This could be a little pick me up during the day when you're feeling sad. Some of the little quotes made me laugh out loud.
This was a super cute book of comics! They're funny and relatable, and some even emotional. I showed a few to my boyfriend because I really liked them.
First off, many thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this book as an e-ARC! I greatly appreciate it!
I've been reading Luis Coelho's little kitty comics for ages, and I've been looking forward to this book for quite some time. You cannot imagine how absolutely thrilled I was to see it on NetGalley! And then when I was approved? The scream I scrumpt!
There's not all that much to say about this book, given there's no story, but it was delightful anyway! The messages are sweet and the art is adorable, as always. "I will shit rainbows and do what I love" and "I would purr on this one" were my favorites!
Five stars out of five to The Book of Purrs!
I love following the author's Instagram account, and it was with pleasure that I found her little cats. A beautiful, touching, funny book that I really enjoyed discovering.
adorably purr-fect collection of comic cats. all cat lovers need a copy of this one on their coffee table and-or nightstand!
I think "motivational speeches delivered by cute cats" sums up this book fairly well. These little balls of fluff say encouraging, thoughtful and emotional things. Sometimes they recite funny little poems about the nature of cats (especially about biting). Those are my favorites. Overall, it's an enjoyable and quick read for cat lovers. It's not particularly deep, but it had me gushing over those wide-eyed cuties, and that was enough to please me.
Ca(p)tivating collection of delightful illustrations of the Internet famous feline character combined with an affirmation. So many of the pages demand to be made into posters. Some of the affirmations come from a decidedly feline point of view while others certainly apply to humans as well. Charming and appropriate for gift giving to all cat lovers plus anyone in need of a tender smile.
This is the cutest book for cat lovers ever. This book pulls together elements of all cat owners furry friends and puts them into this book. This is already pre-ordered for some Christmas gifts. I love the art style and colour palette which has been chosen so well and hope we get some more books in the series of different pets.
Spectacular kitty illustrations and cute, not super substantive aphorisms. ..................................................................................................................................................................................................
