This book is absolutely adorable. It's a mix of meditative, inspirational content, and funny stuff about cats. It's perfection, the web-comic style drawings of the cats, the text. I think this one would hit differently for different people - I loved the "living in the moment" bits, but read the "funny because it's true" parts about cat behaviour to my husband. To use a young person's word this book is so wholesome. Even though it was originally a web-comic, it works in this format - I planned to look at one or two pages a day, but every-time I picked it up, I found myself reading page after page. Funny, wry, wise and true. Well done.
I was given a copy of this e-Book in exchange for an honest review.
Reading this book is like having a cat come up to you lay in your lap and start purring, fills your chest and heart with happiness and warmth. The pages are filled with adorable illustrations and reminders to be kinder to yourself. Luis Coelho offers messages of encouragement, love, and humorous anecdotes all delivered by mischievous but loving cats.
I have seen Luis Coelho's adorable cat pictures in memes and comics shared all over social media. I was delighted to accept an egalley from Netgalley in exchange for this review. This book is a collection of Coelho's art along with short bits of wisdom or in the form of a comic. Coelho principally creates pictures of the cuddliest little black cats you've ever seen. They have huge, expressive eyes that convey emotion. The illustrations are simple with minimal setting or background. Aside from the eyes and occassionally teeth, the principal effect is one of softness. The cats of course, look as soft and silky as a pile of feathers. They appear so cuddly that I almost felt I could reach in and pull them out of the picture for a quick snuggle. But when the pictures contain ground and background, they are made up of the softest, most soothing colors. I have been learning the craft of needlefelt and I get the impression that the pictures have the same fuzzy plushness. I do not know what media Coelho works with, but I would guess watercolor, pastels or something the blends and allows for soft lines.
The text consists of self-love, self-care messages and silly rhymes or jokes. To me, this would make a lovely gift for any cat lover at any time, or for someone who needed encouragement, wishes for wellness or a message of support. I may buy a few copies to keep on hand for just such occasions.
The Book of Purrs is such a cutesy graphic novel with funny, sweet and heartfelt messages. Reading this felt like a warm hug. Also; some of these are quite literally the thought stream of my own black cat! Totally recommend.
Anyone who loves cats will love this book. I’m not a cat fan but this book did make me smile a couple of times. Loved the illustrations they are really spooky. Then I do find cats a bit spooky it’s why they have always been considered witches familiars!
This book was very cute, I’d probably label it as a coffee table sort of book. Not really meant to be read in one sitting but flipped through and enjoyed piece-by-piece. Some pages were funny little cat-jokes, others were more “love yourself” themed pages. It was good but not overly cohesive (again, because its more coffee table book than sit and read for a half hour book.
Thank you NetGalley and publisher Andrews McMeel for the DRC in exchange for a review.
I want to thanks the author Luis Coelho for the amazing illustrations and precious words! While reading this book, I smiled, laughed, and felt sad in the last pages. It keeps reminding me of being my true self and do what makes me happy. Because only ourselves know how to make us happy, and not forgetting the feline friends!
I would recommend this book to brighten up your mood! And if you do not have purr friend yet, should consider one!
Sweet little illustrations of cats with funny/inspiring quotes alongside it.
Purrrfect for any cat lover's collection - would make a brilliant gift!
Thank you to Net Galley for letting me read this adorable little one.
I love the Instagram comics by Luis Coelho and am very happy that his Book of Purrs is going to be published in October. I know a lot of people who I'm going to give a copy to for Christmas.
A purrfect read for any cat owner. I smiled from first to last page, supported by my furry baby (who had definitively auditioned for this book before)
10/10
You can't dislike this book. Coz this book is purrfect.
Every page is a purr giving you positive affirmations or just being a typical purr. And what more do you want?
Thank you Netgalley and Luis Coelho and Andrews McMeel Publishing for the wonderful ARC in exchange of an honest review.
This was absolutely precious. Maybe a little bit long and repetitive but it’s cats so it definitely held my attention. I need to give all 3 of my kids a copy.
Ahhh!!! Okay so I'm a new cat owner and one of my besties told me this was super cute and that I would love it. HE WAS RIGHT!!! Get this for the cat lovers in your life. :)
Despite my closeness and extreme familiarity with purr purrs, this book surprised me in a good way. I did not expect such a fresh concept and execution. A great summary of cats’ peculiarities and POV. Hope there will be more.
One of many quotes I loved: "Existing can be a lot of work."
This was an adorable book is full of sweet and humorous moments that captured the weirdness and hilarity of being a cat owner.
Do you like cats? Comics? Cute illustrations (of cats)? Affirmations? Then you'll love this.
Thank you, Andrews McMeel Publishing and NetGalley, for providing me with an ARC.
I got this an arc on Netgalley and it will come out in October. Just yes. Just yes. It's cats, you need to give them attention.
A delightful little book. Portuguese illustrator Luis Coelho's comics are charming, heartwarming, and gentle reminders to be kind to yourself. I love following @purr. in. ink on Instagram, and having both classic and new comics in one singular collection is just lovely. And of course, the cats!
I was pleasantly surprised by this. I wasn't familiar with the comics before going into it, so I expected it to be a lot more carefree than it was, but the little uplifting messages genuinely brought a smile to my face.
This was written by someone who very thoroughly understands how cats work, how they act, how they bite, and how they love. As a black cat owner myself, I found this collection to be very inspiring. I cannot wait to grab a physical copy once this releases.
@purr.in.ink is giving the internet what we've always wanted – a full collection of cat-related comics. Comic and cat lovers rejoice because this slice-of-life comedy is everything you could have ever wanted.
The Book of Purrs is SO funny and sweet. It's hard not to fall instantly in love. I know, I'm biased. But I do adore cats. I also love Luis Coelho's artistic style. Seriously, if I could buy a few of these pages in print form, I would (note to self: see if that's possible).
This collection is chill, cute, and funny all in one. The comic plots are simple, sweet, and effective. They deal with silly cat moments, mental health, self-care, reminders of value, you name it. In short, it's perfect when you're needing a pick-me-up.

Thanks to Andrews McMeel Publishing and #NetGalley for making this book available for review. All opinions expressed are my own.
I wasn’t familiar with the Instagram account when I started reading the book, so I think I went into it with the wrong expectations. I thought it would be more focused on cats, their quirks, and the role they play in the lives of their humans. In reality it is mostly pages with inspirational sayings and drawings of cats. The art is really cute and the colors used are very calming, but the content just wasn’t my cup of tea.
