This was 100% written by someone who loves cats. Cute art, well designed panels and so any relatable moments with cats.
5 stars
The author suggests at the beginning of the work to read the various comics a little at a time, perhaps even to choose them by opening the book at random. I started reading them and did not stop until the end, and then reread them all over again.
A mix of funny, moving, motivating little comics, all starring big-eyed black cats. On a page you giggle at a joke about cats and their 'love bites' and on the next page a small tear comes for an encouraging and sweet sentence. The frequently occurring rhymes make it all more tender, sweet and comical, as do the expressions of the various cats.
I would love to buy a physical copy, so that I could leaf through it again and again, and most of all I would love to be able to give it to so many people who I know would appreciate it as much as I do!
Thank you NetGalley for sending this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.
Okay so I love cats, LOVE! WITH LARGE CAPITALS!
Have I made myself clear? Okay, good.
So when I saw this cover I fell in love, right at first sight. But as a started to read, I felt that this was a cute joke. This is not a bad book, no no. But it's full with memes, short sentences of rhymes and ALOT of black cats, that are Adorable.
I would totally give this book for someone who is a cat lover. That understands cat jokes and need some healing? It's kind of a self care book with positive vibes of cat bites. So it's just an nice book to read whenever you feel down or need a light laugh.
But the illustration, yeah, I loved it. The cats are so freaking adorable!! So just the cats were my true joy in this book.
Calling all cat lovers! This book is an adorable collection of uplifting, humorous, and smile-worthy depictions of little black fluff balls with…thoughts (not always deep). Portuguese illustrator Luis Coelho's collection of comics is straight up hopecore. I look forward to purchasing this book and parking it at the research desk when we librarians need a little pick me up. "May the purr be with you" and your life "full of pspspsps!" Thank you Andrews McMeel Publishing, Luis Coelho, and NetGalley for providing an eARC for review!
This little book is so wholesome! It's filled with humour, wisdom, love, encouraging messages and more things you need to hear from time to time. I think anyone can recognise a piece of themselves in this book, and everyone can find a fitting message in there as well. Love it!
Thank you Netgalley for this ARC of The Book of Purrs.
Strictly for derpy cat lovers, The Book of Purrs is an adorably animated book with quotes and notes to get you through your day. The drawings are silly and funny, and the quotes, while probably overused, go well with the little drawings. I don't think I would necessarily go out of my way to purchase this book, but it did the job to boost my spirits.
I think this is one of those cute little motivational books that would make a purrrect gift to a cat lover, someone going through a hard or challenging time, or a just 'cause gift. The illustrations are fun. The cats are silly. The messages are great.
As a cat lover, this is a must have!!! From silly to comforting, each comic has something for everyone and every day. I have often found these scattered across my Instagram, so I cannot wait to have a physical collection of these to enjoy. Thanks NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing!
This book made me feel all sort of emotions, from laughing to crying. The cartoons are so relatable, both on a personal level and as a cat owner. The little comics made me feel seen and showed me it is okay to feel these emotions. This is the ideal book to browse through before going to bed after a busy day. I want to buy this book for all my friends to tell them how much I love and appreciate them.
The illustrations are really beautiful and cute, it made me want to hug all the cats. I definitely hugged my cats after reading this book.
A sweet little book full of motivational, fun and fluffy cats that are guaranteed to stare into your soul and make you feel warm and fuzzy. If you're a fan of the author's comics or need some inspiration for yourself or a friend, this is a lovely little collection in an easy to read format.
✨ Disclaimer ✨ I received a free copy of this book and this is my honest review.
A compilation of Portuguese illustrator Luis Coelho’s panel drawings featuring his signature adorable ink illustrations of cats and full of positive affirmations, encouraging words of wisdom and loads of wit and humor, The Book of Purrs: Everyday Thoughts from Your Feline Friends is a fun read and a charming ode to how our furry friends can be a source of positive energy in our lives!
I loved the artwork, which was intricate yet simple and soothing. This is a simple book, one that might not inspire deep reflection (no offense to our feline friends!), but irrespective of whether you are a cat person or not, the witty feline wisdom and gentle reminders to be kinder to oneself could be just what you need to put a smile on your face when you are feeling overwhelmed!
Purrfectly delightful, this is a book that I would certainly want to revisit!
Many thanks to Andrews McMeel Publishing for the digital review copy via NetGalley. All opinions expressed in this review are my own.
It was cute. A combination of lighthearted wisdom and cat unseriousness. Accompanied by cute and simple illustrations of void cats with biiig eyes. But for me it was just okay.
I truly enjoyed going through this Book of Purrs.
Simple, daily affirmations with black cats! The art is fun, and adorable. It's enjoyable, and well thought out.
Most importantly, this could be a great addition to a coffee table. A center piece that you pick up and turn to a random page for an affirmation to perk you up.
Highly recommend.
A gorgeous little book filled with wisdom from cats! At turns philosophical and motivational. I really enjoyed reading it.
Thanks to Netgalley for making this book available for an honest review. This book will be published on the 22nd of October 2024.
As someone who wears their "cat person" badge with honour and will gladly talk for way too long about my four cats to anyone willing to listen, I am kinda ashamed to say that I was unfamiliar with Luís Coelho's online work before this, but you can bet the minute I finished looking through this book that I headed straight for instagram. Everybody needs to see some cute cartoon cats telling them they're doing great every once in a while.
That being said, when it comes to self-help and mental health, I am, unfortunately, not the type of person who gets much from affirmations like the ones that are shared in this book, and I have never quite understood the idea behind an entire book filled with them, which is why I am going to give this a mid rating. The art style is fantastic and each and every cat is adorable, but - and I can't believe I'm saying this right now - cute cats just aren't enough for me to give this book higher than a 3 star rating. I feel like this book would make an incredible coffee table book to flip through and smile at whenever you need a little pick me up, I just wish there had been a tiny bit more substance to it.
However, if affirmations are your thing and you get a lot of joy and comfort from being told that you are doing exactly what you need to be doing and that you are doing it wonderfully, this book is absolutely for you.
Cat affirmations is about the best thing I could ask for. The illustrations are adorable and show great emotion. Who doesn’t want an entire book of kitties wishing you good things, food, and nibbles?
Some pages inspired me, Some forced me to question myself, Others watered my eyes. But this book filled my soul
This was pretty adorable. Sometimes sweet and poignant, other times funny and weird.
Just like cats.
This books is full of some of the most amazing and needed affirmations delivered by adorable fuzzy little voids. The heartwarming feels of this book are just off the charts and I nearly every page I could think of a perosn or a time in my life that could use that comic being sent to them.
Cats and positive mental health is a win-win.
Would love to see this come out as a notecard set as well.
This book is so sweet and heart warming! I have been a fan of this art style and come across it online all the time. So cute and uplifting! Would definitely recommend this read to others.
