I'm sure this is great for some people, but this style of humor just wasn't my cup of tea. I kept waiting for the jokes to develop more, but they just didn't land for me. I also found the artwork rather repetitive in a way I didn't enjoy.

The Book of Purrs is full of adorable illustrations, but the words and affirmations are so repetitive, especially for such a small book.

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC for an honest review.

A genuinely adorable and heartwarming book. I love the illustrations and the sassy little poems/sayings.

The introduction page says the following: "Each page is crafted to speak to you in the moment. Sometimes, you might find a funny cat joke. Other times, you could discover a comforting meow or a bit of feline wisdom that makes you think more deeply—or perhaps not think at all. But most importantly, this book will always try to make you smile."

That's actually a perfect summary of the book. Super cute and it definitely makes you smile.

I love these little void. A wonderful pick me up that makes me wish I had a cat to bite my ankle.

This was a really cute comic book with cats and motivational quotes. I really enjoyed the art style and the comedy in the comics.

I’ve been following @purr.in.ink on Instagram since 2019 and I’m a big fan of Luis Coelho’s work. When I saw The Book of Purrs on Net Galley, I pounced on it (like a cat!) without hesitation.

The Book of Purrs features nearly 100 short comics. Some have been shared on Instagram in the past while others are brand new, and all of them are extremely cute. I’ve always loved how ‘paw-sitive’ and encouraging the kitties are, and that definitely extends to the book. There’s a fair bit of variety in the content of the comics with very little repetition. A lot of the comics are motivational, with messages about healing, self-love, and acceptance. Many of them are silly and fun. A couple of them made me emotional.

Of course, the art is phenomenal. If you’re not familiar with Luis Coelho’s work, you should absolutely head over to @purr.in.ink and check out the art you can expect to find in The Book of Purrs. Look at his reels too, because he’s shared videos of the way he draws each cat and it is beyond impressive.

In a letter to the reader at the beginning, Coelho explains that he hopes we will pick up the book and open it to a random page whenever we need a message from a friendly cat. Because I had a digital ARC, I couldn’t easily read it that way, but I think reading it the way Coelho suggests, instead of from start to finish, would be perfect.

• This book isn’t a comic so much as a daily affirmation. Think Ziggy with cats for a new generation. The book is observations and thoughts of a cat or a pair of cats and how they interact with the human world. The art is a watercolor style that is endearing. Books like this can occasionally be, long and tedious, but I wish this one was longer. I quite liked the thoughts and found myself picking out multiples to send to friends as I was reading. I look forward to seeing what the author does next.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this E-ARC.

This book is so cute! The illustrations are fantastic, and while it’s a little bit cheesy it’s also sweet. There’s funny and encouraging messages throughout. I think this would be a great little coffee table book for any cat lovers out there.

Thank you so much for the eARC! I really enjoyed reading this! I picked it up on a day when I was feeling quite sad and this book made me smile and feel better. I definitely would recommend this as a nice pick-me-up read!

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was such a delightful read! I don't think I stopped feeling some sense of joy while reading this even on the more emotional pages given their comforting, hopeful nature. I'm a big cat lover - two sweet kitties live in my home - so a little collection of comics that offer comfort via adorable cats is right up my alley. Also, it helps that I've loved the authors work for quite some time, but to see beloved strips mixed with new ones was wonderful especially given how beautifully done the art is in each piece. I can't wait to buy a physical copy for my home shelves.

The Book of Purrs by Luis Coelho is a purrfectly adorable book of comics featuring our favorite fluffy friends.

The illustrations are beautifully done and the captions perfectly encapsulate what I imagine to be the inner thoughts of cats. It reads similar to a book of aspirations or motivational quotes and would be great as a gift or on a coffee table for your cat to knock off repeatedly.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading a comic a day or every now and again, like Catana Comics but with cats instead of couples!

5/5 stars for cute cat content

Sometimes humourous, sometimes inspirational, this is one for cat lovers! The author states in the introduction that randomly dipping in and out of this is recommended, and I can agree that would be a great way to digest the uplifting and comical content of this book. I read it cover to cover, and found that the strength was the art style and colouring - it really is a beautiful book. And while the messages were often funny or meant to cheer me up, sometimes the text did fall flat for me, but I enjoyed every single panel of the cute or mischevious or silly black cats!

A cute series of cartoons about loving cats, biting cats, caring cats. Full of self-help tidbits reminding all of us to care for ourselves. Great job!

As someone who’s had a cat for all my life, I can say that I felt all of this to the bone. Even down to the inability to be alone while on the toilet. The book doesn’t just include things I can guarantee that any cat thinks about their owners, but also some self-help disguised as humour.

The art style is so cute, and really shows the goblin-ness of cats. I also liked the different styles of cats, some sophisticated, cute, munchy and scraggly.

Thank you so much to Netgalley and the publisher for giving me a free copy of the book in exchange for an honest review

Cat lovers (and others) will enjoy this one. Some of the entries are comic. Others are written to offer a bit of self-love, comfort and wisdom. Who couldn’t use that?

This book would make a nice holiday gift for a cat person (purrson?).

Many thanks to NetGalley and Andrews McMeel for this title. All opinions are my own.

Thanks NetGalley for the ARC! I'll be honest, this book is super cute, but also pretty forgettable. I do not remember any of the panels after reading. I just remember thinking that's cute and moving on. I do like the art and thought the messages were uplifting most of the time, but I really can't remember that much. I think it's a nice coffee table book to just read through if bored, but that's about it.

I'm all about these digital creators releasing their work as printed media! After "dinosaur therapy" by dinosandcomics this one by Luis Coelho is probably one of my favorites. It's just perfect for all the cat lovers out there and if you're not following purr.in.ink then what are you doing with your life?! ‍⬛

The Book of Purrs by the Portuguese illustrator Luis Coehlo is a compilation of beautiful drawings full of cats' "anecdotes", motivational messages, and affirmations full of humour.
At first, I expected to read a fun illustrated comic about a black cat but by the time I finished this book, I had many pages worth of life lessons from our furry friends. What I loved most about this book was most certainly the artwork, cute, colourful and somewhat fluffy, if that makes sense, oops.

For a book that gives wisdom from a cat perspective, I find it to be very reflective if you take your time on each illustration, it is a book to read slowly and revisit often.

Special thanks to Netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I opened the book, and it immediately HAD me at "much like cats, this book doesn't follow any rules."
Hell, yeah! We love a little anarchy in creative nooks.
The graphics and comics are hilarious; anyone even remotely acquainted with cats would laugh out loud. Makes for a perfect gift for cat owners and cat lovers, though I suspect that in the case of former, their cats would kick the book off the shelf anyway. The illustrations technique is also a breath of fresh air, with the dotted clusters feeling so edgy compared to most other digital art. Every few illustrations, there is also a great affirmation or a profound feline wisdom nugget. A joy to read!

Honestly, I cannot think of a world where Andrews McMeel Publishing hasn't given us so many gems over the years. Most of my fav illustrators and artists have found lasting homes in books at this publishing house, and I immediately get ready for a fun, heartfelt experience when I open a book from them.

The book promises to make you smile in the introduction, and it lives up to its promise and beyond (It's hilarious, did I mention?). No notes!

I have been following and enjoying Luis Coelho’s work on Instagram for quite a while now. It’s always nice to read all your favourite cartoons in a book from artists you see online because you get to see all the funny and relatable content in one place. But it can also get tricky sometimes as you it may seem like repetition or monotonous seeing the same character on each page.

The Book of Purrs is a collection of Luis Coelho’s cat comics which are truly so adorable. I love this little black cat and their changing expressions in each comic. This cat has made me laugh on so many days and seeing its cute face repeatedly was a nice little break for me in my day.

One of my favourite comics is when two cats are conversing and one of them asks ‘Who are you?’ and the cat has tear-filled eyes. If that is not the beginning of human identity crisis, I don’t know what is. To see one’s emotions portrayed through cats or any other beings just lightens the mood.

Thanks to Andrews McMeel Publishing and NetGalley for the ARC.
