This is a cute little coffee table/life quotes/motivational rhymes book. The biggest draw to this is the illustrations though a good portion of them are repetitive. However, you can tell that the illustrations were hand painted and some of the "quotes" are quite funny. If you have a black cat, you will see them (and their thoughts) through this book.

Up on Goodreads now, live on the blog on 21 October:

I follow @purr.in.ink on Instagram, his comics never fail to make me smile, so when I discovered there was a whole book of them (thanks Yvonne 😉), of course I had to check it out!

The Book of Purrs is an extension of the online comics, there are some you might recognise but there are brand-new comics included as well. For those who aren’t familiar with the artist: the drawings are rather simple but all the more effective for it. The cats are black, the backgrounds most often beautifully colourful in a style reminiscent of water colour paintings and pointillism. Some made me smile, some made me laugh out loud, some made me think (you know, I think I would really benefit from talking to myself like I do to cats), and one (about having to say goodbye to your beloved feline) even made me cry.

I think this is the perfect book for any cat lover! I read it cover to cover, but I think it might work best as a coffee table book or even a bedside table book, letting you charge up on positivity and a touch of feline energy before bed. I would definitely recommend it to cat loving readers or as a gift to the cat lover in your life.

The Book of Purrs is out on 22 (eBook) and 24 (hardcover) October.

Thanks to Andrews McMeel Publishing and NetGalley for the DRC. All opinions are my own.

This is a cute book with some sweet and sometimes humorous messages. However, I found the art to be a little too repetitive, and the text lacked substance. Also, it felt like the author was making the same jokes and statements over and over. This made it feel longer than its scant 90 pages.

Cute black cats who like to bite, watch their owners poop, and offer relatable and often inspirational thoughts. What's not to like? If you like the posts from purr.in.ink on Instagram, you will like this. If you aren't familiar with the Insta account but you like bitey black cats and could use some humor and encouragement, you'll like this too. The rhymes are peculiar and a bit clunky at times, and the tone can be a little earnestly mantra-ish for my taste, but there's lots of pages that made me giggle or want to share with my friends once this is published.

Grateful to get a sneak peek of #TheBookOfPurrs via digital ARC from Andrews McMeel and Netgalley.

Cuteness overload – Team Furry in action to cheer you up. I discovered the author's work on Instagram, and although I'm not a cat person, I like to cuddle the cute animals. Unless it bites me. It shows life situations, motivates and captures the positive side of everything.

I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. A wonderful book about the kitties in out lives and how they see us. There were several laugh out loud pages that I really enjoyed.

I am a crazy cat lady though can you be that with only 2 cats? My children are cat lovers as well. We read this together and all loved it. It was funny but inspirational. We love the illustrations with having a black(technically tuxedo) cat ourselves. This was so cute to read. Recommended for anyone even if you don't like cats.

Thank you to NetGalley, Andrews McMeel Publishing, and Luis Coelho for the ARC of this book. This review is my own opinion.

What a delightful little book. I already knew the author’s art and was pleasantly surprised to see that it’s been turned into a collection. The rhymes made some of the messages feel forced and corny, but it’s a lovely experience just the same.

Many thanks to Andrews McMeel Publishing and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

The illustration collection “The Book of Purrs- Everyday Thoughts from Your Feline Friends” by Luis Coelho is an uplifting compilation of comics starring a black cat.

When I came across this book I didn't know the Portuguese illustrator known on instagram as @purr.in.ink but now I'm a fan!

This was a quick read that left me with a positive feeling. The comics mostly are one picture with a quote and they made me smile, nostalgic and also a little sad. I was surprised that the illustrator managed to invoke so many different feelings with these simple illustrations. They are never repetitive and some of them resonated strongly with me.

I believe everyone can gain some insight and fun from this book so this truly is a perfect gift for a cat lover!

A big thanks to NetGalley and the publisher Andrews McMeel Publishing for giving me the opportunity to read an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

I thought this was a very cute book. I liked the pictures of the cats and how they were used to bring me joy and laughter. I gave the book 4/5 stars because I felt like the jokes about bites were redundant by the end. I would have loved to see more jokes about other cat stereotypes such as they show love by putting their butt in your face or by bringing you "gifts". All in all, great concept and I hope you publish more. Thank you for the arc, I look forward to purchasing this book for my husband when it comes out.

This lighthearted comic was exactly what I needed for a pick me up. I've seen Luis' art throughout my time on the internet, but never really looked at it for more than a good chuckle. I was glad to have picked this advanced reader copy up.

I already knew it would be a cute read, but what I didn't know is I would find myself appreciating every single page on it's own. The artstyle is simple but very well done. Luis has a skill and talent for watercolor art.

He gained a lifetime follower with this one.

I FINISHED IT TOO FAST! NOOO!!! I'm heartbroken. It was too short. That's the only flaw I found. I really needed this, as someone with a love for cats (especially black cats! my babies!) and as someone that's going through a lot right now. The artstyle was simple yet so cute. The texts were also simple but so cute. This is a great, short book if you need a little cheering up or if you just want to see cute black cats. It may not solve any of your problems, but at least you'll remember how cute cats are. I recommend it to everyone.

A purrfectly delightful collection of Luís Coelho's kitties that we've come to love via social media. With a little bit of all things cat, from silly bathroom guard cats to some feline wisdom for grief, this book is sure to make you smile with its adorable illustrations.

(Thank you to NetGalley and the author for a free digital copy in exchange for an honest review.)

Thank you to the publisher and author for a copy of this book in exchange for honest feedback. I read a digital copy on a tablet.

I’ve never seen this cute character cat before, but it must be very popular. I smiled throughout this graphic comic collection. It’s hard not to when it’s cats! I particularly liked when the cat has really big eyes — something about it makes me chuckle!

I will say, if you’re looking for clean humor, there are some curse words and other things that may make this not for you or kids, depending on your sensibilities.

Most of this content seems to be centered on mental health and motivation. It’s cute. Would make a good gift for someone. Cute collection, not groundbreaking but nevertheless

Thank you so much for letting me read this book. This such a little gem of a book. And it is amazing how many feelings can be conveyed through a cats eyes.
