Sarcasm at it's finest. Hilarious. Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for the free eARC in exchange for my honest opinions.
Comics with taking centre stage. Reza Farazmand, a brilliant creator, presents real-life situations wrapped in humour. His characters offer absurd and sarcastic responses to social circumstances, a sense of humour that closely aligns with my own. I often subject those around me to similar dialogues, so I found this book particularly enjoyable. Both the monologues and interactions with other characters felt familiar. Furthermore, it’s clear that the cartoonist has fully developed his style and has a strong sense of self; the work is cohesive and deliberate.
In fact, someone who hides their sorrows and struggles behind humour eventually starts to take everything in stride, and surreal dialogues become part of daily life. The collection’s title, Poorly Drawn, suggests the artist prioritizes the message over the lines, pointing to the underlying meaning rather than the drawing itself. He began this series during his university years, possibly keeping the lines simple to pass the time between classes. However, in an interview, I learned that the title is a reference to a Luis Buñuel film. Even so, beyond his ability to convey much with few words, his skill in saying a lot with few lines adds a minimalist charm and striking clarity to the content. Through these interviews, I also discovered his intellectual depth, which is not surprising for a talented cartoonist, as this kind of foundation is as essential as observational skill.
I've only gotten properly into the Poorly Drawn Lines webcomic recently, but it's been really hitting the spot lately. This collection is a perfect example as to why. The dry delivery of the absurd humour that completely speaks to how the world is now just completely works for me here. The characters may be simple, but Mouse, Bird, Turtle, and Snail are surprisingly relatable and often remind me of myself or my friends. Fans of the webcomic will definitely find this collection to be top notch and well worth the read!
I have been a fan of Poorly Drawn Lines for a while now and was delighted to see Farazmand's comics collected into one collection. These are the kind of quirky comics you just have to screenshot and send to your significant other or friends from time to time. If you enjoy dry humor, than this collection is for you.
I'm not sure I even cracked a smile while reading this book. Perhaps if I hadn't just finished another collection of comics featuring talking animals that was much funnier, and less poorly drawn, I'd be more inclined to rate this higher. Check out the strip online, and if you like what you see, I'm sure you'll enjoy this book far more than I did.
This is a humorous collection of comic strips about animal friends who have funny insights and thoughts.
It was an enjoyable read but I felt they got a bit repetitive and I didn't understand all the jokes.
Peak millennial humour captured in these pages; nihilistic and incredibly stupid. I laughed a lot while reading, seeing my own reality reflected back at me and resonating with these silly characters. An absolute joy to read and I will definitely be purchasing my own copy, maybe even hanging up a page or two on the wall as art.
*I received an e-arc of this book from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.

I have read many of these "instagram art series turned book / collection" type graphic novels, and my opinion is much the same as it always it: if you enjoy this artists work, and want a physical collection, you can't go wrong with this. However, I think much of the charm of these is lost when you read a dozen of these comics in a row, as they are more stand-alone than portraying an overall story. I do enjoy that this collection features many not-previously published comics, which is a great draw for fans of Poorly Drawn Lines.
4 Stars
I got the change to read this as an advance reader and I loved it. It’s a fun comic book.
I could relate with some of the things happening.
Not great, not terrible, but we all need some dry humour in our lives from time to time.
I think you need to be a lot more familiar with these characters to be able to laugh with them or understand them, so for a new reader this is not the best way to start with Farazmand's comics.
Not everyone will vibe with these comics, so if sarcasm and dry humour is not for you, look somewhere else.
I really liked this! I liked the illustrations, how relatable they were and how it made me laugh. It was really good reading it, the only reason I'm not rating it 5 stars is cause some pages felt a bit pointless..? I didn't get them but there weren't many of them.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the chance to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is fun. This is cute. This is VERY millennial. Signed, a millennial. But really, I enjoyed the ride. Some of it made me laugh or smile but I cannot see myself returning to it again after reading it once. It was a breezy, light read and will be a perfect palate cleanser if you have read some more intense or heavy stuff lately. Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC!
More like a 3.5 star. I really enjoy these when I come across them in the wild. Unfortunately here, while I still enjoyed my time, I wish the layout had been a bit different. I had a hard time getting through the collection because it really didn’t keep my attention fully. I appreciate the arc from NetGalley for an honest review.
These comics were so funny and wholesome. I thoroughly enjoyed the book. I liked reading the comics but at the same time a few made me sad because I lost my dog in January.
Hope It All Works Out is a collection of new Poorly Drawn Lines comics. I love the humor in this collection, and I can relate to so many of the comics. Be sure to check this one out!
Many thanks to NetGalley for providing me with an ARC of this book.
"Hope It All Works Out!" is a straightforward comic featuring some animals with witty, relatable humor. I nodded along with some of the comics, and it was a really quick read. It didn't really stand out to me as a must-read hence the three stars, but I'm sure many people will let out a chuckle or two when reading along.
This book was a constant source of giggles for me. I fell in love with the crow, the snail, and the mouse. The style is so simple that it somehow underscores the humor in a way that makes it even funnier. I didn't know I was a fan of Poorly drawn lines until I stumbled upon this collection and it was a lot of fun. I think this would make a great gift book, too.
Thanks to netgalley for the advanced readers copy in exchange for my honest review.

Beautiful and so so hopeful! My grateful thanks to the publisher and the author for sharing this ARC.
I love a good comic strip particularly when they’re as fun and relatable as this. I loved all 4 main characters but my favourites have to be Dr Mountainson and Mouse. I really enjoyed the art style and the colour palette. The comics were well layed out to not be digestible, I read a few pages before bed every night and it was really nice to just stop and start as I felt like. I was a big fan of the font used, which is kinda specific but in comics it’s super important to have an easy to read and visually aesthetic one or it can really ruin the experience. Highly recommend!
This book captured me right out of the gate. Every single panel had me nodding and agreeing that I felt the same way. The colours and drawings were amazing and it was so easy to read. I would recommend, this book to anyone that is looking for a way to get all up in their feelings.
Make sure you have a box of tissues near by.
Thank you to NetGalley, Andrews McMeel Publishing and Reza Farazmand for a copy of the eARC and a honest review.
