I have to say, I really loved this second book of the Wynter sister series. Having read the first book it was lovely to be back on the Isle of Skye in the lead up to Christmas with the Wynter sisters. The descriptive style of writing allows you to be transported into their world and develop a magical picture of the setting. Although I have read the first book, I think this could be read as a stand alone which is good for anyone who hasn't read the initial offering. Through this we follow the middle sister Ezzie who goes through plenty of ups and downs with some love interest thrown in for good measure. This is a perfect cosy book on the lead up to the festive time of year.
Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
For this, the second book in the author's Sky trilogy, we focus on Ezzie. Single and supposedly happy with how her life was going, she only begins to rethink her life choices after her sister Thea finds love in the first book. Mats, the son of the owner of the stately home she's the manager of, turns up and unexpectedly, Ezzie feels her heart begin to open up to the possibility of falling in love.
This is the second book in the Skye Sisters trilogy and can easily be read as a stand alone, though it does fill in some back story if you read the first, it doesn't really matter. Yes, this is set at and around Christmas, but that's almost incidental and adds to the emotional impact of the book in wonderful ways which I loved.
All of Sue's signature moves are here, love, fun, relationships, with some lovely furry animals dropping in every now and then. These books have, as well as wonderfully drawn characters you're sure to fall in love with, the most beautiful of settings. I'm sure I won't be the only one to set off for the Isle of Skye after reading these books.
My thanks to Avon for the reading copy.
I loved this second book in the Skye Trilogy. Sue has a wonderful way of making her characters seem like friends. It’s easy to become enchanted by the community spirit of a growing family, living in and around Rothach Hall. I really enjoyed this fabulous festive read. I am so looking forward to reading book three.
Sue Moorcroft takes us back to the Scottish isle of Skye for the second story in the trilogy of the Wynter sisters, Thea, Ezzie and Valentina. This seasonal story concentrates on estate manager Ezzie. She thinks she has challenges getting Rothach estate ready for its Swedish owners and their large family to descend over Christmas. But that is nothing to what is to come, as she grapples with her growing attraction to their son Mats (a divorced man with two small children); faces problems from her past and supports her sisters with their own challenges.
The whole story takes place on Skye, and the descriptive narrative does this beautiful Scottish island full justice. Just picture small towns, windswept bays, towering mountains and Scottish scenery. It just lends itself to romance, and the plot of this novel does it full justice. There's drama, tension and heartbreak in amongst the romance, family affection and day-to-day life of the three sisters.
There's a wide range of characters from wise Grete, to resentful Inger to charming young Barnaby, Valentina's son, and they all have their part to play in adding to the atmosphere of the story and driving along the plot.
But it's Ezzie and Mats who take centre stage, of course. They are very warm, sympathetic characters. But miles apart as they are in the situation of employee/employer, and the physical distance of Skye and Sweden, can things possibly work out for them.
Sue Moorcroft always creates believable conflict in her stories, and balances it beautifully with characters who are, for the most part, open and honest about their situation. That's why I like her books so much. I can really relate to the characters because they share what they are feeling and thinking with the reader.
That doesn't mean don't expect surprises. There are plenty to come under Skye's snowy, starry Skye.
We return to the beautiful island of Skye and the Wynter sisters trilogy. This is the second and we follow Ezzie the middle sister. She is now manager of Rothach Hall and is looking forward to winter and Christmas on Skye. Then she gets notice that the Larson’s, owners of the hall are coming for the winter and Christmas too and life is no longer quiet as she has to organise everything! The owners arrive along with son, Mats. He is self assured and handsome and causes more than one headache for Ezzie. Yet when yet another curveball gets thrown at Ezzie with unexpected visitors, it throws her life into turmoil but sometimes the people that you least expect will step up.
‘Life’s for enjoying, too, and time away from loved ones is time we never get back.’
Yes this has the C-word in it; Christmas that is. And yes, I read this book in August, but honestly it has just been the perfect poolside escapist read. I loved returning to beautiful Skye and characters that I know, I really liked getting to know Ezzie better and the story being hers this time. There is love and plenty of family, blended, adopted and there are struggles, grief and worry but you always know that things will work out, one way or another and that’s just what I needed.
It also does give you a wintery, Christmassy feel good vibe and actually that’s a good thing at any time of year in my opinion!
This wonderful book swept me away with such strong emotive strands to the story. I can’t remember the last time I felt so involved with characters, I was routing for Ezzie and getting really anxious as to how everything would work out. The beautiful descriptions of Skye also add to this amazing book. I can’t recommend it highly enough!
How lovely to catch up with the lives of the three sisters created by the author. It didn’t take many pages before I clearly remembered the first book. Delightful characters and setting, I’m looking forward to the third book.
After reading the first book about the Skye sisters under the summer Skye this one being about Thea you think the second one a Skye full of stars won’t match up to it but no it’ goes one step further it’s brill this is all about ezzie who is hoping for a good Christmas on Skye but of course this is not going to happen not giving anything away she finds love heartache and happiness and all turns out well for her now can’t wait for book three telling the story of Valentina the third sister a must to read
I do love a series where you instantly feel at home during the second book as though you haven't had to wait months for it's release.
And this was certainly one of those books. It was a joy to be back on the Isle of Skye with the Wynter sisters.
This time we get Ezzie's story, and thus get to see more of the inside of Rothcach Hall. And also get to know the Larson family a whole lot better.
Which was a real pleasure as I was loving all of them especially Mats and his kids. He may not always think before he speaks but he is very charming.
There are shocks in store for both of our main characters and it was interesting to see how Ezzie especially reacted to hers.
I am just loving everything about this book and series, the fabulous characters, brilliant storylines and great setting.
I already can't wait for the final book of this trilogy, but I know I'll have to.
Thank you to Avon and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
Book 2 in the Skye sisters trilogy and another delightful story, following Ezzie in her role at Rothach Hall and the trials and tribulations that come with it! She's also feeling a little lonely herself as her sisters seem settled and busy, so she's re-evaluating her life and what she wants from it.
We are also introduced to Mats, who lives in Sweden, who is the owners of the Hall son, and is heading to Skye for the holidays with his children - this puts all the staff under a little pressure as they are wondering if there's more to his visit than meets the eye.
And the past comes back in play again that really throws the stability of the sisters in jeopardy and their loyalty to one another shows through in spades with the course of action they take.
I loved the different family aspects that are going on in this book as there's lots to unpick and for the girls to face up to, and it keeps you engrossed from start to finish. And the setting of Skye just adds to the drama! Really looking forward to Book 3!
Ohhh I absolutely loved this!!
I have adored so many books from this Author and this absolutely was no exception to that. Another story that was so heartwarming ti sink into, utterly engrossing with a gloriously varied cast from start to end.
I wasn’t certain where the story was going at times, but the writing style is so wonderful that you just sink right in and don’t want to come back up. I think this is my new favourite from Sue, and I know that this will be yet another of my regular rereads from her!
A beautiful book, and another well written book by this author, who I happen to really enjoy!
I loved hearing more about the adventures in Skye, a place I’d love to visit one day. I found the storyline had a good enough pace to keep me interested throughout, and there was some amazing arcs and twists to the story to ensure I wasn’t bored. Definitely another highly recommended read!
I absolutely loved book one that introduced the reader to the Wynter sisters who were all adopted. This is Ezzies story.
I loved the 'will they, won't they' storyline when Mats comes to stay with his family, and owners of Rothach Hall over Christmas. They didn't exactly hit it off straight away.
Like in book one, Ezzie is also reunited with her birth parents. I was also shocked that they had just turned up. Her reaction was entirely valid.
I just love the descriptions of the Isle of Skye. I even found myself googling places to stay there. It sounds magical over Christmas, but I'd love to go in the summer.
Sue Moorcroft has yet again penned a perfect winter story that leaves you feeling all warm and fuzzy, and with a big smile on your face!
Set against the backdrop of the gorgeous island of Skye in the Scottish Isles, it’s the second story in her trilogy about the Wynter sisters, but can be read as a standalone. The heroine, Ezzie, has been promoted to manager at Rothach Hall, a stately home owned by an elderly Swedish couple, Grete and Erik Larsson. When Grete arrives without her husband, but accompanied by her eldest son Mats and his two little children, Ezzie does her best to fulfil her new role to their satisfaction. What she hadn’t counted on was her developing attraction to Mats and vice versa, despite a rocky start. Then there are unexpected revelations about her birth family (she’s adopted and never knew who they were), plus misunderstandings with her adopted sisters to complicate her life. Suddenly Christmas isn’t looking likely to be as joyful as normal …
Mats (the gorgeous Swedish hero!) is newly divorced and trying to figure out how to change his life for the better – he’s been working too much and wants to spend more time with his children. Meeting a gorgeous English woman was not part of the plan, and a relationship between them seems impossible, no matter how much he’d like it. Her life is on Skye and his in Sweden – neither of them can change that. But might there be a Christmas miracle? You’ll have to read it for yourself to find out.
Any fans of Sue Moorcroft’s previous books are bound to enjoy this one. The setting is gorgeous and is key to the story. It’s an enjoyable romance with a teeny dash of spice.
The characters are suitably flawed and as the romantic couple have very different backgrounds this made for an interesting dynamic. The subject matter touches on adoption and divorce.
Although this is a sequel, it could definitely be read as a stand-alone.
I enjoyed the descriptions of the setting and found the references to Swedish and Scottish festive traditions interesting.
Overall, a 3.5 star read for me.
This is the second book in the Wynterd sisters trilogy but loses nothing being read as a standalone. Ezzie Wynter is the manager of Rothschild Hall and loves her job and living on Skye with her sister Thea nearby, also working at the Hall. As always Sue gives us a feeling of Stye in her descriptions and delves into the characters of the people she describes - a born storyteller.
The Swedish owners of the Hall are coming for Christmas unexpectedly and Ezzie’s world is about to be turned upside down in several ways, as the son of the owners arrives with his two adorable children. I loved the Swedish traditions coming up to
Christmas as well as the Scottish ones. There are difficult times for Ezzie ahead as well as good times and the whole story is delightful; a warm winter hug.
I wanted to be in this book so badly when I was reading in. Everything seemed so magical snd beautiful couldn't help but fall in lovebwith it
Sue Moorcroft + Christmas = I mean, what more could you possibly want?!
It is part of a series but it can definitely be read as a standalone. You might get more out of it, little hints from the previous book, if you have read the first but your reading and enjoyment and understanding of this one is not lessened at all if you haven't.
Scotland and Sweden; I love Scotland (although I've never been to Skye), and I love Scotland in the wintertime. I've never been to Sweden but would love to, especially in the winter. So the combination of settings was gorgeous for me.
I am an advocate for reading Christmas books all year round, but I read this one an October weekend where it was 1 degree outside. I had Christmas music on (yes I know, I'm not sorry), and some warm gingerbread, and let me tell you, this book is even more magical when read like that.
Sue is an extraordinary author, but my main praise goes towards her characters. I have always preferred character development over plot (although in this case, both were good), and she creates such recognisable, familiar, human, real people who have flaws and hardship, they love and hate and fear, they're like a family in themselves but also with the reader, as if you could put the book down and give one of them a call.
Ezzie is a wonderful protagonist, and Mats is a fabulous play off of her. They come from different backgrounds and countries, but I felt this kinship between them and loved their solo journeys as well as their duo. There are many other characters, staff members, family, friends, strangers, and neighbours, and there isn't a dud amongst them. Some have bigger roles than others and some I liked more than others, but they all have a role to play in furthering Ezzie's story along.
Whilst at its heart it is a warming, cosy, festive, romance, it doesn't shy away from difficult topics, such as adoption, divorce, affairs, illness, mental health, criminal activity, fears, money worries, secrets, alcohol dependency, and whether family is who you're related to, or who you choose?
At almost 400 pages I find books can sometimes drag. It can be a fine line. But this one doesn't. I read it in less than 24 hours. It is so heart warming and cosy and beautiful and I loved it.
It did take me a while to get into this novel. It’s the second part of The Skye Sisters Trilogy, but it was great to be back with the Wynter Sisters on the beautiful Scottish island of Skye. In this instalment we are back with Ezzie, she’s recently been promoted to Manager at Rotharch Hall and is about to welcome the Larsson family from Sweden for an extended break over the festive period. Ezzie soon befriends Mats and his adorable children Astrid and Alvin but it seems Ezzie’s past is about to rear its ugly head and could spell trouble for her. This is a lovely festive read combining traditions from both Scotland and Sweden. It’s great in that Ezzie’s sisters, Valentina and Thea are still involved and that they have their own stories linked in. Thank you to NetGalley, Avon Books UK and the author for the chance to review.
Thank you to NetGalley for the chance to read this novel in exchange for an honest review. This is the second installment in the Skye Sisters trilogy, and after falling in love with the sisters and Skye in the first book, I was excited to dive into this one. I’m happy to say I wasn’t disappointed! Although this book has a slightly slower pace than the first, it doesn’t detract from the story at all.
In this novel, we follow Ezzie, who has just been promoted to managing Rothach Hall for the Larsson family. She is busy preparing for the winter and Christmas season as the entire family plans to stay. Early arrivals include Grete, her son Mats, and his children, Alvin and Astrid.
I absolutely loved returning to Skye in this book. It was also great to see Thea, Dev, and Valentina still involved in the storyline, with their own ongoing stories to tell. I’m eagerly anticipating the final installment of this trilogy and can’t wait to see how everything concludes.
A lovely continuation of the series!
