A fairly common theme of a witch with wonky magic and the return of her ex boyfriend. All about how she manages to solve the glitch where others had failed.
I didn't quite finish to the end as the story followed enough of a common trajectory for me me to feel I had no need to.

I heard Impractical Magic and was obviously sold. It’s a fun, witchy themed, friends to lovers, Rom Com. This book was so whimsical and fun. I loved the concept of a secret magical town on the East Coast. This town is straight out of Gilmore Girls, but maybe too much so. I love a Gilmore Girls reference, don’t get me wrong, but sometimes you can get a little too close and it doesn’t do it for me. There were a lot of subtleties that were written well reference wise but I feel like at times it was straight out of the tv show. At first I really loved Scarlett’s character, and I understood why she had to leave, but other times I feel like she was a little too resentful of her magic. That made it a little hard to connect with her. She wanted to reject magic and a convenient lifestyle but then get upset when things were hard. I’m also not usually one to jump on a friends to lovers style book, but this one honestly was endearing. I loved how it played out for sure. I do think this is a fun read if you want something quick and cozy for the Autumn, so do not hesitate to pick up a copy!!

an absolutely precious lil fall time read. i read this in like, one solid sitting and enjoyed it for what it was. while this was not the most life changing book ive ever read, it delivered on those cozy vibes i search for in a book and with a side of romance, i can’t complain!!

For a first time author, this book had a lot going for it. Cozy small town vibes, sisterly love, magic, close coven of female witches, trans rep.

The story is a good one, while needing a bit more fleshing out. The characters are lovable and realistic.

I think this author has room to grow, but I'm very excited to see it happen.

I loved the setting of this book, who doesn’t love a small town with quirky characters?! And like I said, the premise of the book was perfect. I loved the sister’s relationship, the town dynamics, and the plot.

I didn’t love the characters, I found many of them to be annoying and a little over the top. And while I enjoyed the plot, I did not enjoy the ending. I’m glad it ended the way it did but the last chapter or two I was angry at the characters.

It is perfect for fall though and a super quick read, I think many readers will enjoy it!

I was initially very charmed by the Gilmore girls meets Charmed tagline, I was however very disappointed as I don't understand why on Earth she would go back to a family that is so toxic?! I read to escape not to relive trauma lol. I had the autumn vibes I'll give you that but the plot would have gained if the relationship between Scarlett and her mother. I do have to give credit to the atmosphere in the book that was really cozy, it made me crave a pumpkin spice latte

This was a wholesome witchy read full with cute autumnal vibes! But the relationships oozed toxicity and it became very frustrating at times

It's getting to be that time of year, and you can tell that Emily Grimoire has experienced an autumn or two in her lifetime...this felt like an episode (or season) of Gilmore Girls just smacked me right in the face. The characters were likeable enough, the town was Stars Hollow enough, and the story was soaked in enough pumpkin spice and magic to provide the exact feeling I was looking for in a "witchy" fall book. Three solid stars from me!

Impractical Magic is about a witch that comes home to help her family figure out why the magic in their town is having problems.

I was initially interested in this book for the Gilmore Girls meets Charmed tagline. As a fan of both those shows this seemed right up my alley. However, I feel like the book could use some edits. It’s written in third person but the voices of the different characters are very distinguished and made it hard to understand who was speaking. It took about 54% of the way through the book to finally get interesting but by then, I had already predicted the ending. I felt a lot of stuff dragged on a bit too much.

The romance was cute but was definitely not the main thing in the book. I would have liked to see the FMC and her love interest involved in more things together.

I did get the Gilmore girl vibes, actually so much so that if it wasn’t for the magic, I’m fairly certain things were lifted right from some episodes. While I enjoy things inspired by shows, this was a bit on the nose. There was an overload of pop culture references.

I found the FMC to be annoying. She blamed herself for everything and had a very “woe is me” attitude. If she would have just talked about it with her family, half this story would have been resolved quickly.

This was fine. It was sweet and cosy but it lacked something. Witchy romances are like catnip for me but I couldn't fully invest in Scarlett or Nate

I DNFed this book at about 50%. I had a really hard time with each of the characters, but particularly struggled with the way the characters spoke to each other. I tried to push through, but from page 1, I knew this story just wasn't for me!

This book was really cute!! I enjoyed all the pop culture references; they were so fun! Scarlett was a great FMC and Nate was a perfect MMC. This was a cozy, Gilmore Girls style seasonal romance with a cute story. I was invested in the storyline and was excited to see where they ended up. However, the ending was a little strange for me! I don’t want to spoil here. Overall, would recommend as a cute cozy fall read. Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read this ARC prior to release!

2.75⭐️I definitely sensed a blend of Charmed and Gilmore Girls in this story. The charming town of Oak Haven was filled with interesting characters and problems. However, I found the narrative lacking in depth. The characters felt somewhat one-dimensional; it was clear they aimed for more complexity, but it didn’t quite translate. I had to remind myself that they were in their 20s. The idea was fantastic and appeared to be enjoyable, but ultimately, it didn’t resonate with me. This book had a compelling blurb that drew me in and pretty quickly after I began reading I felt I was going to be dissatisfied. I am sad to say that my feeling was correct.
The entire plot was predictable and unsatisfying. The characters had very little depth to them and the main character in particular I wanted to reach into the book and slap some sense into. There were a few times in the book where she mentions how she went home after 10 years and starts acting like a teen again but it wasn’t only her, it was everyone!
The narrative also gave me whiplash going from angsty teenage-like introspection, to lusty thoughts and actions, and then back to the big problem that the main character is trying to fix, all in one or two paragraphs.
Plus side: not riddled with grammatical errors

And the romance? Oh, I loved it! The slow burn between Scarlett and Nate was just the perfect amount!

Cozy, witchy read that's good for the spooky season. It was just a normal feel good book nothing spectacular or horrible about it. People will definitely love it if you're looking for a short cozy story.

I loved this sweet witchy romance that will make you yearn to visit a small town in New England in autumn. There’s plenty of family drama but you always feel the underlying love. I loved the wonderful, friends to more, slow burn romance. The ending felt like a fairy tale and left such a hopeful feeling for all. I read this on Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
