This book had potential but ultimately didn’t hit the mark for me. The premise of "Gilmore Girls turned witches" sounded intriguing, but it just didn’t work out. The characters felt flat, and the magic system wasn’t as engaging as I hoped. Honestly, I found myself wondering if the author had even watched the show, as the vibe just didn’t match. It didn’t fully capture the charm I was expecting and left me feeling disconnected from the story.

"Impractical Magic" is a charming contemporary cosy fantasy. Set in the matrilineal magical small town of Oak Haven, New England, the story follows Scarlett Melrose, the screw-up middle child who returns home after a decade to confront her past mistakes and resolve a magical crisis.
Grimoire's enjoyable writing style brings the cosy setting to life. The fluffy novel blends family drama, second-chance romance, and a hint of magical mystery, creating an engaging story that explores self-discovery, reconciliation, and standing up for yourself. The book reminds me of My Big Fat Greek Wedding in the best way.
The book's strengths include its quirky characters, atmospheric writing, and quick world-building. One nitpick: the use of "muggle" for non-magic users feels slightly unoriginal, and could invoke negative feelings for some readers. It's a minor flaw in an otherwise enjoyable read.
Perfect for fans of Gilmore Girls and Practical Magic, this cosy autumnal tale offers an ideal blend of magic and small-town charm. It's best enjoyed on a crisp autumn day with a warm blanket and a pumpkin spice latte.

Three and a half stars! A cute, witchy romance about a woman coming back to her home town, reconnecting with the man she loves, and trying to not screw things up more than they already are. An enjoyable read.

I absolutely adored this book! It’s definitely perfect for those who loved practical magic the movie.
There’s family drama, hidden doors with portals and second chance romance. I love how the story unfolds and the challenges the FMC has to face. She has to over come her own grief and face herself head on. I swooned over these characters. If I could slip into Oak Haven and live out my days I would tmrw. I loved it. I really enjoyed the way the author writes it was easy to follow and immersible. I felt apart of the story.

I want to thank Netgalley and the author for gifting me the ebook. I was able to find the audio version through my local library. I was excited to read this book. It says on the cover "Perfect for fans of Gilmore Girls " etc... but what I didn't know is that the author literally took scenes from the show and put them in her book.. I love the feel of a good cozy quirky town like "Gilmore Girls" but I don't want the story lines or scenes stolen from the show and put in here.
The book had some really graphic language that did not need to be in there at all. The MFC was just annoying and not funny at all. I get it that the author was creating a Lorelei character but this one was a complete miss. I got half way through and this is a DNF for me personally :(.
Also I really hate it when authors put the most feminist, liberal woke crap in books now. They just shove it down the readers throats. We are tired of it and don't want to read it. Just bring back good writing..not a message that clearly shows what your beliefs are...and guess what just like all the actors and entertainers out there.. your audience does not care! It actually makes us not want to read or watch another from them ever again.

My first Emily Grimoire book and this was so cute and cozy! I know with any book that gives strong Stars Hallow/cutesy small town vibes it tends to draw in more readers for a quick fluffy read, but I think it’s great to invest real emotion and real characteristics (the FMC deals with guilt and self-sabotage and her behavior shows it!) into the book too.
Looking forward to the next read from her.

It promised witchy gilmore girls vibes and it delivered. I thought the mystery was fun, and I really enjoyed the sister dynamics. The romance took me a little while to get into, and it’s pretty straightforward—just a sweet second-chance, friends-to-lovers story.

Perfect for fans of Gilmore Girls and Charmed?! That's me! I was sooooo pumped to read this book. I should have known better. I got no GG or Charmed vibes. In fact, I found the characters to be all quite flat. Overall, it was a somewhat cozy romance, but not for me.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the Advanced Reader's Copy!

Unfortunately, Impractical Magic by Emily Grimoire was a bit of a miss for me. This was definitely a cute story with cozy small town vibes. It really did have a lot of potential. The writing just wasn't for me. The characters were bland and felt unfinished. Descriptions were way over the top for unnecessary things but nonexistent for fairly important stuff throughout the story. The writing made it very difficult to finish.
Thank you to the publishers and netgalley for this arc in exchange for an honest review.

Oof, this one was not for me! I read Gilmore Girls meets magic and was like yesss! But it just didn't work for me. The writing was really juvenile and started bothering me right away. I kept reading to see if it would bother me less, and it did not. I considered DNFing at around 10% but kept reading for some reason.
I think the premise had potential and I liked the autumnal and witchy vibes! The writing just did me in and the plot/characters weren't enough to make up for it.
If you're a HUGE Gilmore Girls fan and are desperate for more content, give this a try! Otherwise, steer clear. 2.3 stars from me rounded down to 2. Thank you to Avon Books and NetGalley for the eARC, my thoughts are my own!

This was a fun cozy fantasy romcom that’s perfect for autumn. It could have done with a bit more world building but as a cozy read it was enjoyable.

It was enjoying this, until I came across the Donald Trump reference….
Also, the FMC was self sabotaging the entire time which was quite exhausting & frustrating to read.

I couldn't help but root for Scarlett as she dealt with everything going wrong in her life. Not only her life, her family's as well. When she gets the call, she knows she has to figure out a way to put things right at her mother's inn.

This book had so much potential. Was definitely falling in love with Oak Haven and the Inn. The dynamics between the Melrose women is what lost me. I get due to the accident with saving the town that cost them their father splintered the family however it seems like they collectively blamed Scarlet while harboring their own sense of guilt and continued to go in on her really hard, like I do not understand why Scarlet stayed to help. Also the Trump reference really hated, hope that was taken out in the final publication. Also don't think it should have taken a year to find the 13th bird, under the bridge should of been searched.

Can I just start by saying that every time I look at this cover art I can't help but smile - it's whimsical and fun and sets the mood for this cozy witchy read. Now on to the review. I wish I could rate this higher but it's a 3 for me. I found the book cute, the plot line was superb but then came the characters and the pace. It felt very rushed and very thrown together, like it just needed a little more to make it deeper - richer, something.....more. But overall still this was a fun and enjoyable weekend read. I'd say fans of Fae Cafe would enjoy this book - and that is one reason I picked it up in the first place.

OHHH!!! I took a while to get into this book but once I did… I devoured it! Thank you so much for the opportunity to read this as an eARC! I love all books that are witchy and have all the autumn vibes and this was exactly that! With that being said, I think people who enjoy those kinds of books would fall in love with this story!

If you are looking for a cosy autumnal read this novel is perfect. Lighthearted with a little bit of magic.
Scarlet Melrose is a witch who has returned to the family home - in a witchy village guarded by magic where it's inhabitants are also of magical ilk. There is a problem brewing in the woods which has turned the town upside down and magic has become uncontrollable. It takes Scarlet and her sisters to try and solve the puzzle of who and what is behind the disturbance and restore the town to it's magical balance

I have loved the increase in cozy fantasy novels and this one is perfect for fall. It gives just the right amount of Halloween and fun. Scarlett and Nate had me giggling and kicking my feet with their tension. But as expected, it was never too much. Just very satisfying, interesting shenanigans. Highly recommend.

Cozy, fun romcom perfect for reading in the fall but may lose my interest any other time of year. I enjoyed, but wish there was more world building and richer characters!

I was very excited to read this book and be in the Halloween engrossing environment. Unfortunately the book I received was raw formatted and it felt hard for me to read and follow along to the story. I felt that due to that it took me way longer to read and a simple fun story became unreadable for me.
Thank you NetGalley for the advance copy!
