I am fascinated by Orchard Street and the many immigrants who made their way to this bustling part of New York City I enjoyed this story. The pace was slow, but then Malka/Lillian's struggle was slow. And a story that tells me about the creation of ice cream is always worth my time.

This was like Forrest Gump with a less likeable main character. The writing was great and the history very appealing, but I found the main character so awful that I just could not love this book.
