These characters are all people we know, but what a wonderful way to bring a collective group of individuals together and catch a glimpse of their journey.

This book won’t be for everyone, but if you need a path to leave your world for a bit and hop in to another that will make you laugh, maybe tear up a bit, get the ick, and learn some trivia along the way. This is a fun way to do just that.

Audio book was well done.

This book is absolutely precious! I have never read a book with this type of plot tying in the lives of members of a trivia team to the teams success in a trivia tournament. A unique and precious book! Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for a copy of this book for an honest review.

Wow, I had no idea what to expect from The Lonely Hearts Trivia Night by Lauren Farnsworth since I picked it up based on the cover and title alone. This was an extremely emotional read with plenty of serious topics and a touch of humor as well. I loved the trivia throughout, both at the beginning of each chapter and when the group is competing on their quiz nights. We play trivia at Buffalo Wild Wings, and I kid you not when I say some of the questions in this book came up in theirs, so I was able to get them right. 🤣 #winning

I really enjoyed the various viewpoints, and the different topics touched on through each including mental health, moving on, and having the courage to go for what you want. The only narrator for the audiobook is Eva Feiler and I thought she did a lovely job conveying all of the emotions the characters were feeling throughout. A full cast would have been nice here, but I would still recommend the audio because Feiler was easy listening and perfectly paced.

Read this if you are looking for a genre mashup (romance, lit fic), a debut novel that doesn’t feel like a debut, and messy but relatable characters that you can’t help but commiserate with.

This group of people was interesting and I liked what the story did, but it dragged a little too much for me.

The title sold me when I first saw the cover. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but when five strangers join a trivia team at a bar, I was definitely intrigued.

It was tender and heartfelt, and I loved the trivia too. Each character had their own struggles and it warmed my heart to see them come together after feeling the theme of loneliness. The audio narration was engaging and I felt like I got to know each character’s POV even more through this format.

*many thanks to Dreamscape Media and Netgalley for the gifted copy for review

A group of wayward strangers team up in a trivia competition. Over the next year, they find bonds all while dealing with life's challenges.

I liked this the more it went on. I was a bit unsure at first. But I enjoyed it even if I was frustrated with some of the characters at times.

Eva Feiler narrates the audiobook.

I received an advance audio copy in exchange for an honest review.

When five strangers team up to form a pub trivia team, there are not immediate friendships formed - each is dealing with their own struggles and secrets - but over time, they come to know each other better and ultimately end up trusting, supporting, and depending on one another.

The audiobook kept my attention and increased the amount of time I spent walking each day because I didn’t want to stop hanging out with the Red Hot Quizzy Peppers.

I was really hopeful for this audiobook, but felt like it dragged. I always feel really guilty when a book doesn't work out for me, but have to remember that not all books are my cup of tea and that's okay! Yet just know there is someone out there who will love it.

Thank you NetGalley for my arc in exchange for my honest opinion.

I gave this one a good effort but it just wasn't working for me. I listened to about 35% of the book and was just bored. I have so many audio books on the tbr right now so I decided just to move on.

Unfortunately I decided to DNF this book. I love-love-love quiznights and board games etc, so I thought "The Lonely Hearts Trivia Night" would be a good fit for me, but sadly no. I didn't feel any connection to the characters and I feel like the writing was trying too hard to be something it isn't.

This wasn’t want I was expecting but it was brilliant.
It was a much more serious book that I was anticipating but the depth it brought to the characters was wonderful. The book touches on serious issues such as mental health, teen pregnancy, debt and relationship issues. All of these things are covered in a realistic light of the pressures that they bring to everyday life but also the positives of seeking support.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

After answering Donna's post for a trivia league, five Londoners find themselves amidst a competitive trivia league competing against other teams every week. Each member joined the team for a different reason, but underlying them all is a need to add "something" more to their social lives. As they work together they learn more and more about each other, and themselves, and ultimately make lasting friendships.

I really enjoyed this novel, and found the audiobook to be very well made and enjoyable. I would recommend this novel to anyone looking for a light-hearted pick me up.

I listened to the audiobook for The Lonely Hearts Trivia Night. Unfortunately, it was had to keep track of all of the characters because there was no transition between them. It took me a decent amount of time to catch up and realize who was talking. I felt like I was always testing my memory.

The story was sweet. I enjoyed that a cast of somewhat misfits somehow found each other. Not only could they easily bond over their trivia nights, but they had a built in excuse to stay in touch as they kept winning rounds in a tournament. They all needed some form of support and they were able to find it in each other.

I really wanted to love this book but unfortunately it fell flat for me. I enjoy reading, board games and trivia, so the plot of this book sounded right up my alley. However, I did not like a single one of these characters and did not find it enjoyable to read about their lives. I did enjoy the trivia questions.

I always feel guilty when I don't love a book. I think it's because I know how much effort the author has put into their work, and it's disappointing when it doesn't resonate with me. I know that there are people who will enjoy the book, but for me, it fell short. The book has an interesting premise – five people join a quiz group to compete for a $10,000 prize. They are all strangers and get to know each other during the competition. Each person is lonely in their own way, and the group fills a void in each of their lives. The story is told from four different points of view, but I found the characters hard to connect with. They seemed boring, desperate, and difficult to like. The big secrets in the story weren't as significant as I expected – they were just about people living their normal, unhappy lives. Despite this, the trivia questions in the book kept me engaged and interested. The narrator was ok, but having the same narrator for every voice and not even telling us who the voice is does not help with connecting the reader.

Thank you NetGalley for the ALC. Enjoyed the story, felt it was a bit long and drawn out. It touched on several really big and impactful reasons for each characters loneliness and had good connection. I enjoyed it.

This book was not for me. There were too many characters and not enough plot. The story moved very slow and it was difficult to continue reading at times . I didn’t love the narrator either, it was very bland and added to the mundane tone of the book-nothing a good way! Additionally, the characters weren’t really likable. I found myself not really looking forward to any of their parts.

Fun book with deeper conversations about adult friendships, marriage and mental health.

As a huge fan of bar trivia nights, I was excited to see a book built around this trend. As someone who moved across the country and had has had to work to make local adult friends, that element of the story was also very relatable. As a 40 something married woman with teenage children, I really connected with Bryony's storyline. I really enjoyed the trivia questions at the start of each chapter and that each was narrated by a different character. It was great to have a read with older characters. I was very impressed with how the mental health element was handled. Would definitely recommend it to friends.
