This was extremely confusing to listen to and I feel like it was miscategorized as a romance. It definitely dealt with heavier topics but did not come with any sort of content warnings either.
This may be a good listen for someone else, but it was not for me.

I opened this expecting a rom com, and it felt much deeper than that. At points, it was depressing, and many of the characters were difficult to root for. However, it had a few really heartwarming scenes and moments that I really enjoyed. I think I would’ve liked it more if I had gone in with more accurate expectations.

A British narrator and trivia? What’s not to love? I loved the tidbits of trivia (as a trivia enthusiast myself). I enjoyed the audiobook reader. Her voice was enjoyable.

Thank you to NetGalley & Dreamscape Media for the audiobook of The Lonely Hearts Trivia Night
Five strangers come together to form a team for trivia night at a local pub. This book weaves through each members’ lives touching so many subjects: mental health, friendships, job issues, family issues and relationships. I absolutely love Eva Feiler as the audiobook narrator. It was a charming and heartwarming book.

I had a somewhat difficult time with this book. The narrator did a perfectly fine job. But the story did not hold my interest well.
Many thanks to Net Galley and Dreamscape Media for an audio ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Question: Name a book you won't recommend to people?
Answer: The Lonely Hearts Trivia Night
Yeah this was pretty boring and shockingly depressing. There were a handful of (flawed) characters that unite to form a trivia team "The Quizzy Peppers" . So little of the book actually focuses on their trivia competitions they could have been a bowling league or bocci ball team. Instead of fun trivia competitions and insight into the whole world of tournament trivia, this book focuses so much on the flawed characters sad lives. Each of the characters who are barely memorable live very unfulfilling lives and only slightly come to life when they meet up at the pub for their tournaments.
I really never got behind any of the Quizzy Peppers stories or found myself cheering for them. When you write a "sport" novel you want the reader to rally behind the team you have created. Even if the team is a bunch of mismatched benchwarmers (Dallas Cowboys Ahem) you want your team to have spirit, and ignite a fire that makes you cheering for them.
I was so "blasé" about it. Very. mundane. This book read like a dreary Londan Monday Morning in February.
I am sorry to say I didn't enjoy my time with this book.
Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to reviews this advanced copy of The LOely Hearts Trivia Night.
I was not influenced or paid in exchange for this honest review.

I got early access to this book and listened to the audio version. The production and narration were excellent and easy to follow. I found this book interesting and really loved the playfulness of the authors setups throughout. With that being said, I didn’t feel that the story had a solid plot that I was fully invested in. I cared about the readers journey but nothing really stood out for me. Overall a solid book that I would recommend, just not my absolute favorite read.

No Spice/Not a Romance

I’m not gonna lie, I almost DNFd this book. It was marketed as a romance with found family based around bar trivia and that’s not at all what this book is. This book is decent, it’s not a romance, in fact it’s kind of depressing, but I guess there is a “found family” aspect. And there is bar trivia, but it’s not really the main plot.
The beginning of this book was honestly a little jarring. It starts so suddenly and sort of just shoves characters and everything at you so quickly, that it took me a few chapters to get my bearings.
All of the characters are completely unhappy in their lives and trying to force it. There’s kind of too many characters being so unhappy that I couldn’t even remember who’s depressing plot was who’s, but it didn’t seem too important, I was just hoping for happiness at some point?
It was a well written and interesting story, but for a book marketed as a romance it was NOT it. I’m sure a lot of people will like this book (as I said it’s an interesting plot and well written) but it really just wasn’t for me.
The narrator was fantastic and did great accents.

The narration of this book is quite well done.
It is a great book for people who love multiple storylines and characters, who like to read about the lives of all the members of a group, their thoughts, issues and worries, while they are getting to know each other as well.
And on top of that there is some general knowledge strewn in with the pub quiz element of the story.

A delightful touching novel that explores taking the brave step of conquering loneliness. This sometimes light but sometimes deep novel grabbed the reader and placed them right at the trivia pub table to be involved in new friendships and finding family in the midst of strangers.
Donna, who struggles with loneliness and fears of mental illness, decides to create a trivia team at a local pub by submitting an advertisement that is answered by three complete strangers. Through the challenges of spending time together playing pub trivia, these new friends conquer heartbreak, trials and life problems that we all face.
Each character had faults, but the author created such real characters that by the end of the book, I was rooting for each one to succeed in finding love and family through these friendships. I also loved the trivia questions and answers throughout the book. Being on a pub trivia team myself, this was an added bonus.
Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for sending me such a wonderful Advanced Reader Copy that I can suggest to all of my reader friends. I absolutely loved it and will miss these fun trivia friends. #NetGalley #TheLonelyHeartsTriviaNight

Title: The Lonely Hearts Trivia Night
Author: Lauren Farnsworth
Format: Audiobook
Narrator: Eva Feiler
The Lonely Hearts Trivia Night follows the lives of four strangers from London who came together to form a trivia team named The Red Hot Quizzy Peppers. As they meet for each round, the team grows closer, and they become more comfortable sharing about their life outside of the pub, messy, complex, and less ideal than the fellowship they are forming. Because unlike a trivia question, some things in life don't have right answers.
Due to the title, I went in with this incorrect assumption that the book was going to be a love story. It isn't. While it talks about each of their relationships, this is not a book about boy meets girl at the pub, they keep coming back for trivia, they fall in love and have three children and a dog and move out to the countryside. And I absolutely loved how it was not a love story. It was real and raw in moments and showed a whole spectrum: about getting over a breakup, realizing you need to breakup, thinking you want to break up but realizing you don't really want to, and realizing you want to be in a relationship. And none of them are perfect. They're just normal people making it day by day trying to survive life.
And at the same time, it was a really cute story. It wasn't raw and real in the may that makes you stare at the wall for 2 hours and question the meaning of life. It was uplifting in the way that makes you think, man life sucks sometimes, but when you find good friends who help you get over all the junk parts, life can actually be pretty awesome.
My biggest negative to the book was that I kept questioning Luke's purpose in the book. Is he going to grow up? Is he one of the main characters? I kept cheering for him the whole time, and thought his character had a lot more potential to further parts of the book, but he just fell flat.
Overall, I loved the book and rate it 4 out of 5 stars. I'd recommend it for people who like trivia, want an easy read, and want a book about messy life that still has a nice ending.
Audio Impressions: The book follows Londoners, so it's no surprise the narrator had an English accent. For some reason, I love when books do, so I really enjoyed the narrator's voice. The pace was great. The words were clear. There were times it was hard to distinguish some of the characters during dialogue. And it sometimes took me a while to figure out who was in a scene when the chapters switched, so I wish it had made character changes more clear. Other than that, great as an audiobook!

I was captivated by the five main characters in the trivia game; their individual stories intertwine, revealing their shared loneliness as they come together to play Trivia at a bar, aiming for the finals. Some are parents, some married, others single or in relationships, yet they all find common ground.
The audiobook's pacing was slower than I preferred, but I enjoyed the narrative and the characters throughout the book, and it offered a refreshing change for me.

This was a cute book. Smidge too long because the lonely hearts were some times lonely and depressing. The trivia parts (the factoids and the tournament scenes) were a lot of fun.
Fantastic narrator! I enjoyed listening to this book.
I received a copy from netgalley and the publisher.

This is a heartwarming story about a group of young strangers who come together to compete in a pub quiz competition. I enjoyed the author's writing style but it did take me a few chapters to really get into the story.
I liked that each chapter started with a different quiz question and that each chapter was written from a different character's perspective.
Every character had their own life problems and messy situations, and I liked most of them, but I did have a hard time connecting with most of the characters.

This is a nice and sweet novel about 5 strangers who join a pub quiz team. They are all very different and have their own personal drama and issues going on, as all of their points of view are presented to the reader. However, meeting on a regular basis for a pub quiz competition ends up bringing them together in a way that none of them would have expected…
I enjoyed listening to the audiobook. I thought that the sudden change of POVs was a little confusing at the beginning, but I could quickly get used to it. The narrator also did a good job.
Thanks NetGalley for an advanced copy.

3ish stars- This audiobook features five unlikely friends who come together for the purpose of winning a trivia tournament while finding themselves as well as finding a close circle of friends in each other. I've never hated every character of a book prior to this one but also happy with how their lives turned out at the end. This book honestly made me reflect on every terrible spot I've been in my life and wonder if I was as annoying as these people were, and wondered if miscommunication got me in the spot I am like it did them. Maybe I'm just pessimistic...you'll have to give it a listen to find out if you agree with me or not!

Audio format 🎧. This is the story of five lonely strangers who join a pub trivia team. Their goal becomes winning the London pub championship and the cash prize. But the book is about a lot more….love, friendships, finding oneself, starting over and moving on. Lots and lots happening in this book.
Plot wise the most enjoyable part was the pub quiz storyline. I was expecting that to play a little more of a dominant role in the book so it was a little disappointing to me it did not. I did find the story a little draggy at parts especially the first half of the book. However, I did find the story picked up the second half for me.
Narration was good with voice changing for the various characters and the narrator did give some feeling and emotion to the story but I did find it was a little flat at times.
Overall this was an enjoyable listen but as I did have a little problem connecting with some of the character plots I will give this an above average 3.5/5

What a beautiful story!
This book follows five lonely Londoners who are looking to find community in a trivia team. There is so much going on in this story that I don't want to give anything away but it is a fantastic story showing the struggles that each character faces in their lives. What I loved about it is that each character's internal monologue showed how lonely and isolated that they felt but in the view of the other characters they were still giving off the image of a fun life. It really shows how even when you feel alone you really aren't. Genuinely really enjoyed this one and the growth that the characters had in their lives and relationships throughout the story.
I would recommend this to anyone who wants a deep read or something with a little depth. Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read this story.

This is an entertaining read. The characters are relatable, strong, wounded, complex, entertaining, intriguing and interesting. I loved the various relationship dynamics and how they played out. As well as the growth of the characters. The secondary characters added to the fabric of the story and my enjoyment. I enjoyed the various family dynamics and wanted more from those aspects. The story is easy to read and get into.
I enjoyed the audio version of this book and the narrator.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I really wanted to like this book, I love trivia and the concept seemed like a lot of fun. This one was just okay to me - I would have enjoyed it more, if I had found the characters likeable. It pulls together at the end, but for the most part, I found most of the characters whiny/self-centered, and they were just struggling with the basics of life.
The narrator was pleasant, and I liked listening to her.
