by Brent A. Bauer Cindy A. Kermott (Author), Martha P. Millman (Author), Lori Gardner (Narrator), Recorded Books, Inc. (Publisher)

Lori Gardner has a very calming voice, her advice sounds like a good nurse giving you ideas. The book shows many alternatives and current understanding of the different problems that can affect people. The book shows that their are limits to home remedies. And give strong advice of when and why to get medical help for any serious problems.

I really liked how informative this book was. It was interesting to learn more about so many illnesses and conditions. I also liked that it was structured in an A-Z format like a dictionary of illnesses and remedies. It covered everything and includes basic information that would be helpful for beginners. It would be a great book to just keep on hand as a home reference for families.

This is a compendium of common illnesses and ways to treat them at home. In this sense, “home remedies” refers to methods such as over-the-counter medicines, diet, exercise, and other similar strategies, not homeopathic medicines. The different conditions are listed alphabetically and there is a section at the end about how to care for people in an emergency until professional assistance can be provided. I found this book to be chock full of information and advice.

The audiobook is narrated by Angie Kane. As an auditory learner, I appreciate that this reference book was made available as an audiobook. That being said, it’s very information heavy and it’s difficult to pinpoint specific topics. My advanced listener copy did not have chapter labels. I hope the final version does because it would make navigation much easier.

This has a lot a great content in it. The information is very short and concise, so you access an answer quickly, if you can find it.

This might be a case where a physical book is easier to use than the audiobook. The topics are listed alphabetically so it is a challenge to navigate to the right place. If someone only had the audiobook, I doubt they would be patient enough to wade through multiple topics to get to the one that interests them. This isn’t an audiobook that you want to curl up and listen to the whole thing. But if someone owned a physical copy and just needed assistance reading through the book, this would be really handy.

Huge thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the opportunity to enjoy this audiobook!
