I loved all the Ciban superstitions and learning about them in this book. It made the story real creepy. Marisol will go anywhere and do anything to fond her sister. A good, fast paced read.
I liked the plot and the characters and the suspense and how everything was going but it was not for me. It was too slow despite being fast-paced and on timer, I felt myself wanting to skip pages and get to the main point. I know somebody else will love it so do give it a try.
Overall a good book I felt it was slow in parts but I did enjoy the read
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for letting me review the book This was an ok read I enjoyed it but the plot could have been tighter I found parts very slow and almost DNF. It
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for letting me review this book
I will preface this review that I believe in order to fully benefit from the story in this book, you should read book 1, All the Broken Girls. I don’t think it would be a successful standalone as you miss out on background that I believe is pretty crucial for story and character development. In book 1 we learn about Cuban culture, but in book 2 we are “taken” to Cuba.
Overall, this was a fun and twisty read. I enjoyed catching back up with Mari, Tony and Orlando in this book and learning more about the side characters we met in book 1. Mari and Tony’s slow-burn and tension-filled relationship is evolving, as well as her investigate skills as they seek out the whereabouts of her sister, Izzy. During their search for Izzy, they learn of many other missing women and begin to place the puzzle pieces together in order to complete a mission of not only saving Izzy, but the others. With the government turning a blind eye to the missing women, and omissions and lies told by those they find to question, it seems like Mari, Tony and Orlando are playing a dangerous game and the costs are high.
I can’t wait for the next book in the series!
Thank you Entangled Publishing and NetGalley for providing me an ARC to read and review.
What lengths would you go for someone you love?
Set in Cuba, this is a mystery/thriller with supernatural elements. I loved the original plot which is filled with lies, deception & sinister characters. It started a bit slow for me, picked up along the way & wowsa on the final twist which was a complete surprise!
This is the 2nd book in the Mari Alvarez series, however it can be read as a standalone.
Book 1: ALL THE BROKEN GIRLS
Book 2: ALL THE MISSING GIRLS
Book 3: THE PHANTOM PIRATE OF GASPARILLA, publish date unknown at this time.
Favorite Line: “My abuela is the one person who planted seeds of happiness in my soul and watered those seeds with love and reliability.”
Thank you to NetGalley, Entangled Publishing, LLC, and Linda for the opportunity to read an ARC in return for an honest review.
What I didn't know before reading this ARC is that it is Book 2 in a series. I'm inclined to say it is an interconnected standalone series because I didn't have any issue following the story at all and it felt like a complete story until the very final chapter where I became aware there must have been another book with more story to read.
I enjoyed this book. You are dropped right into the action, covering a few days in Cuba. The journey was intense and captivating. I was trying to piece things together has the story progress, attempting to play detective before things were fully revealed lol.
I wouldn't say the book has a MAJOR plot twist but the story is jarring.
Thank you NetGalley, Entangled Publishing, and Linda Hurtado Bond for allowing me to review this ARC!!!
This book is so action packed and from the beginning you getting EVERYTHING. Mari is a reporter, shes in Cuba trying to find her sister but then comes across something more sinister going on, and I was all for it. One thing I didn’t like too much about this book is the religious things that were brought up and these “goddesses.” I am all for reading a great fictional read, but when you add this afro religion on it? I find it hard to really get into it. I am not saying I wont recommend this book to others, but this whole goddess of fertility thing, and how HEAVY it is in the culture made me not love the book as much as I wanted to.
This is a good & solid read, my first by this author. I didn’t realise this was the second book in the series but I had no trouble following the story. I did find it a bit slow at the beginning but once it got going I couldn’t put it down.
★★★
All the Missing Girls is an action packed story that dives into the lengths one will go to protect their sister!
I loved the immersive atmosphere of the Cuban setting, the high stakes of trying to find Mari's sister, and the dive into a religion born of witchcraft and Catholicism. For those who like their thrillers with a twinge of horror and a big side of action, All the Missing Girls is for you!
All the Missing Girls was a good mystery/thriller however I found myself lost and confused a few times.

As a crime reporter for a Tampa TV news station, Mari Alvarez knows when an investigation enters dangerous territory. But with her estranged sister missing and almost no information to go on, Mari can’t trust anyone but herself to find the truth. Now she has just 48 hours to sneak into Cuba undetected, track down her sister…and pray to her orisha that she’s not too late.
This is nothing like reporting in her neighborhood, though--a place she knows like the back of her hand. In Havana she has no contacts and only an ice-cold trail of cryptic clues. When Detective Tony Garcia offers to help, Mari puts aside her instincts and tries to let someone in. But soon they’re caught in a maze of lies, deception, and an undercurrent of the island’s own witchcraft, a sinister Brujería.
Every lead draws Mari further into this world of shadows, especially when her sister isn’t the only young woman who’s gone missing. Each step pushes Mari and Tony toward a revelation they never saw coming. And as they close in on the horrifying truth, one thing becomes clear…no one will let them leave Cuba alive.
Thank you NetGalley and publisher for this arc!
What a great book!! Such a good thriller/mystery! Perfect writing style and that plot twist!! PERFECT!!
This is a tension filled drama from the first word to the last. Tony, Mari, and Orlando take their investigative skills to a place that could see them disappear permanently. The plot is magnificently set against a tight count down clock and the many dangers that they encounter. Readers will be amazed and surprised at the details that come out as they turn the pages. It is a very interesting and thrilling story to read.
Mari, Tony and Orlando find themselves confronting a terrible truth as they search for Mari's sister Izzy in Cuba in this fast paced thriller. The characters and atmospherics are good but the premise is a bit unrealistic so let go of that and just turn the pages. I missed the first book so this was a standalone for me-it was fine that way. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. I'll look for Bond again.
Unfortunately, this one is a DNF for me. I think the premise sounds intriguing and there's no issues with the writing. For me, the story was hard to follow and get into. I read through to chapter 6 and had to stop because I continued to feel confused about what was going on. The story jumps right in and the pacing is quick so you get a lot of information right away. There were many characters introduced so quickly that I'm still not really sure who some of them were or whether they were important. For readers who enjoy a quick paced book, definitely give it a try. Maybe after a while things start clicking and making more sense.
This book is gripping from beginning to end.
The writing is well done, the pace is fast, and the research that went in to this story is top notch. I love how the author can literally take us to Cuba in an authentic way.
I love how the story is so clearly thought out and there is development in all the right places.
The characters reel me in. I think Mari is my favorite and she grows the most. She is determined and resourceful. She will stop at nothing to find the truth. This is true grit and I can relate to her quest.
There are so many interesting and thrilling moving pieces in this story, it literally kept me guessing from beginning to end (which is tough to do!).
I didn't know there is a book one, so I'm going to check that out...right now!
Can't wait for more!
Thanks to Entangled Publishing and the author for an E-ARC via Netgalley!!
Extremely face paced thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
This book opens up right in the middle of the action Mari, news reporter, Tony, homicide detective, and Orlando, cameraman, are sneaking into Cuba to help find Mari’s missing sister Izzy. What seems like a case of kidnapping by her sisters boyfriends turns much sinister when they find out they are on the hunt for a serial killer.
I couldn’t put this book down, it was so addictive.
I also really appreciate the way the author chose to present the documentary. It’s an eye opening point of view that most people wouldn’t see.
This dark thriller will have you on the edge of your seat! It’s fast paced from the very first sentence and has great twists and turns. Mari is smart and resourceful and I was immediately rooting for her. They end up in some darker corners of Cuba and this book definitely takes a dark turn!
I really liked how the author wove Cuban culture into the story. I didn’t realize this was the second book in the series but it can definitely be read as a standalone (I’m going to go back and read the first one!)
Wow! This book really kept me on the edge of my seat! I didn't realize it was the second book in the series, but I didn't feel like I was missing a whole lot either way. The author does a good job of making an entire story that stands on it's own.
I really enjoyed the characters and the pace of this book. I look forward to #3!
Mari Alvarez is a Tampa news reporter who has found her way to Cuba with Orlando, a photo journalist, and Tony, a Tampa homicide detective--and Mari's crush. The trio is looking for Izzy, Mari's sister, who disappeared with Raul, the man who murdered the women's mother. The novel involves paragraph after paragraph of Mari's thoughts and ponderings as she speculates where Izzy could be and wonders if she will ever attract Tony's romantic interest. For readers who enjoyed All the Broken Girls, All the Missing Girls may be a sophomore slump in the story of Mari and Izzy. Recommended for fans of Linda Hurtado, a Tampa news personality who does so much to promote local writers and reading.
