Book Review: All The Missing Girls by Linda Hurtado Bond

I went into this book with no prior experience with Linda Hurtado Bond’s work and didn’t realize that All The Missing Girls is the second book in a series. Thankfully, this book reads well as a standalone, although the twisted ending leaves you eager to see what happens next.

I normally don’t read thrillers because heart-racing stories about serial killers and nail-biting suspense don’t typically keep me engaged. However, this book was much more than that. I felt as if I was transported to Cuba, experiencing the nightlife, culture, and the creepy government surveillance in a communist country.

From the start, I was on a wild ride with the main female character, Mari Alvarez, as she sneaks into Cuba on a search and rescue mission for her sister, Izzy. Mari’s goal is also to apprehend the man who killed her mother. This mission is not only time-sensitive, but if anything goes wrong, it could jeopardize the lives of Izzy, Mari, and everyone accompanying her.

What I didn’t expect was the terrifying mystery surrounding Oshunvilla, a tourist attraction that I hope exists only in Ms. Hurtado Bond’s brilliant imagination. The suspense kept me on the edge of my seat, biting my nails, and racing through the pages to see what would happen next.

Though I’m not yet a full-fledged thriller enthusiast, I highly recommend you read All The Missing Girls. The ending is just the beginning of another wild ride.

Thank you to Entangled Publishing and NetGalley for this ARC to read and review.

4.5 ⭐️ Mind blowing thriller! This was an ARC copy and I’m so grateful to have been selected for this book. This was my introduction to Linda Hurtado Bond. I did not know this was book 2 of the series but will definitely read the others in the series. This story pulled me right in from the first chapter and ended with such a plot twist. I need more!!! Family drama, unknown killer, romantic interest, missing person, mental illness/disorders

All the Missing Girls by Linda Hurtado Bond is a wild ride. Intricately plotted and with strongly developed characters, I found myself reading quickly to see what would happen. Through out there is palpable tension and suspense and it really made me feel Mari’s emotions. I learned a lot about the Cuban culture and some of its sayings and that was a great added bonus. Although this is the second book in the series, it can be read as a standalone (although I’m so ready for the third book!)

This is the second book in this series. Set in Cuba which was fascinating to read about a whole different culture and way of life. This is one suspenseful story. It will definitely keep you on your toes. This author sure knows how to bring the mysterious and magic into every page. Shocking ending was another cliffhanger so there will be more to come.

Incredibly mind-blowing and frightening thriller!

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Marisol is a reporter and her sister has gone missing in Cuba. Under the cover of night, she and her two partners take to entering Cuba illegally via boat in search of her sister Izzy. Through unexpected twists and turns, Marisol finds out that her sister is not the only one who has gone missing in the last couple of days. While in Cuba and on the search, she and her team take to documenting for a Netflix documentary. They don't expect to find out that Izzy is not the only girl missing, she's 1 of 4. But will they find her and more importantly will they make it out of Cuba undetected?

This book had my heart pounding out of sheer fright for these characters. Being a Tampa-born girl myself, reading this book brought me back to the Tampa atmosphere. I loved every minute of this fast-paced thriller and cannot wait for the following book. This book was full of mystery, and unexpected turns, and had me clutching my pearls because I just did not expect it to end how it did. I can tell the author weaved a very intricate web of a storyline with this story because it felt like I was in the investigation into the disappearances myself. Closer to the end of the book and what is the climax, this book turns into a horror movie. Being that the authorities are unreliable in Cuba, this story took off in a way that I was expecting to have a horrible end because I am Cuban and have heard many of horror stories of the gov't following people around and doing whatever they want with people, especially people who aren't supposed to be there, like our group of main characters in this book. Read this book, you will not regret it!

Vibes: House of Wax, Saw, Netflix's Lost Girls

Hooked. Seriously, the thriller I've been waiting for all year. Love the characters and the suspense never let up from the first chapter onwards. Some Trigger warnings, though.

I enjoyed reading this book. She was an unknown author to me. However I look forward to reading more of her books

The idea that Mari would enter Cuba illegally looking for her sister and everything she would discover sounded like a book that I wouldn’t want to put down. For the most part it was good, but it was when they started talking about fertility prayers and witchcraft that my interest started to wane. I like the idea of a book bringing current topics like kidnapping, fentanyl, and Narcan into the storyline. Anyone have this book on their TBR?

I was given the opportunity to read the ARC for this book - totally unaware this is the second one in a series until I reached the end where it mentioned the third book (thank god because the cliff hanger has me wanting to read it!) I enjoyed this story on its own despite the fact that I may have missed some story building from the first. I liked the characters, and the storyline kept me wanting to figure out what happened next! Would definitely recommend to others.

Thank you, NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for the copy of All The Missing Girls by Linda Hurtado Bond. This is a sequel to All The Broken Girls but it can be read as a standalone, but like any sequel or series, you get more familiar with the characters if you read all of the books. The reveal is a shocker and great story and paired with Bond’s engaging writing style is a must-read!

I didn't realise this was a sequel when I requested it. But I feel I understood what happened in the first book because of the comments and thoughts in this book. I did find it extremely slow and dreary at times though. I found myself skim reading wanting to get to the end. Which is a shame because the plot was good but I felt it was poorly executed.

Thank you so much to Ne and Entangled Publishing for this book.

I did not realized this was book two in a series until I got into it. It can be read as a stand aline novel and I had no trouble following the storyline and plot, but going back and reading book one, All the Broken Girls, I can see where I missed some aspects in book two, but nothing major.

I enjoyed the story and was on the edge of my seat during most of the book. It is agreat thriller and the Cuban setting was perfect.

This book is a great read if you want to be terrified@ Read it at night for the extra fright@

Looking forward to book 3 in the series@

Recommend.

I started this book not realizing it was the 2nd in a series, but I would also say it was a perfect standalone book. This thriller kept me on the edge of my seat from the first page to the last. Family, love, revenge and mystery kept me entertained and wanting more! I now can not wait for the 3rd to come out!! Thank you to the author and NetGalley for this arc!!

I went into All the Missing Girls with no prior knowledge of Linda Hurtado Bond's writing, as this was my first experience with her work. I also didn't realize that this book was the second in a series. Although it reads much like a standalone, I felt I might have been missing some key points.

This thriller, narrated by Mari Alvarez, takes us on a harrowing journey to rescue her sister Izzy from Cuba and from the man Mari believes killed their mother. The story plunges us into some truly terrifying scenes. I don't think I ever want to encounter a tourist attraction like Oshunvilla again—yikes!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was well-written, and the twists and turns made for a wild ride. I particularly loved the Cuban setting. The descriptions were so vivid that I felt as if I were actually there, which was incredible, especially since I have never visited Cuba.

Thank you to Entangled Publishing, NetGalley, and Linda Hurtado Bond for offering me the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Talk about thriller! Immediately we are dropped on a boat as we follow Mari Alvarez on a quest to find her missing sister.

However, Alvarez has 48 hours to enter Cuba, illegally, to look for her sister who she believes was taken by her mother’s killer. She is joined by detective Tony Garcia and photographer/longtime friend Orlando Jones as they try and untangle of web of lies and deception.

What they uncover is terrifying and leads them on a wild chase through Cuba.

This book is action packed and definitely leaves you feeling anxious and eager to understand what is happening. Umm also, that ending?!

My understanding is that this is Book 2 in the Mari Alvarez series, but I believe they are somewhat stand along. I didn’t find myself feeling like I needed to read Book 1 first, but I will definitely read it before Book 3 is released!

If you are in the mood for an on-the-edge-of-your-seat, up-all-night thriller, All the Missing Girls is the book for you! Television reporter Mari Alvarez sneaks into Cuba with her videographer and her friend, a Cuban-American police detective. Mari's mission: Rescue her sister and bring the man who abducted her to justice. Mari soon discovers that her sister isn't the only missing girl, and the truth about what's happening to them is darker than she could have imagined. The book takes readers to parts of Cuba that tourists don't see and introduces the dark side of Santeria's religious practices. It is the sequel to All the Broken Girls, which I highly recommend as well, but this book is easy to follow even if you haven't read the first.

Thank you Entangled publishing for allowing me to be a part of the ARC team.

This is the first book I’ve read by this author, I went into this story blind, not knowing what to expect, except it was a thriller. It was one of those stories that has you thinking, and wondering what’s going to happen next. I did not know this was part of a series. I didn’t necessarily feel lost reading it, but I’m sure reading the first book will help continue the story, which I need to do right now. I love all the Latino references and the Cuban sayings (reminds me of my tio 🤣). There is another book in this series. I’m the type that has to finish any series so I’m anxious to see what happens.
