I know Richard Osman from his Thursday Murder Club series. This is the first in a new series from the author. Steve Wheeler is a widower, retired cop and sometimes private investigator. He is enjoying his quiet life. His daughter in law, Amy Wheeler works in private security and loves the rush of exciting situations. Their work experiences give the pair something to bond over and a genuine closeness he doesn’t always feel with his son. Amy is currently protecting an older popular thriller writer named Rosie.

The mystery involves the death of an influencer near Amy’s location. When Amy is attacked she and Rosie need help from someone she can trust and calls on Steve. I confess I didn’t love it as much as the Murder Club series. It is still enjoyable but I’m only warming up to Steve and Amy. I will definitely look for the next in the series and then decide if it is something I would want to continue forward with. There is a formula to mysteries and the author is good at writing them. But it is the recurring characters that bring me back for a series. (3.5 Stars)

When a high power bodyguard is being chased all over the world by a high power assassin, the stakes are high and the reader's adrenaline climbs right along with the characters'. Amy has been assigned the job on a tropical island of protecting a hugely popular author whose life has been threatened by a Russian Oligarch. Amy's husband is working in the far east, but she checks in daily with her father-in-law Steve, a retired cop of whom she's very fond. Her life gets complicated when her boss disappears and she receives threats on her own life. Rosie, the octogenarian author, comes to her aid, and they join forces, along with Steve, to uncover the plots that put them in extreme danger. There are plenty of red herrings to keep us and the characters guessing, and the good humor makes the rapid pace all the more fun. Luckily this appears to be the first of a new series by Osman.

Thank you to NetGalley for the advance ecopy of this book. There are many characters who are under threat of being killed for some reason, and many characters trying to prevent the killings and solve a mystery or two. The action is fast paced, and I did prefer these characters to the ones in Thursday Night Murder Club. All in all, this was an averagely adequate mystery.

As a huge fan of the Thursday Murder Club series, I was so excited about We Solve Murders by Richard Osman. This book kicks off a new series, but you get the feeling that our new heroes, Amy, Steve, and Rosie, might just bump into Elizabeth, Joyce, Ibrahim, and Ron at any moment. Readers can expect similarly cozy touches (Trouble the cat, anyone?) and lovable, funny characters -- how unique and special for my favorite part of a murder mystery to be the characters, rather than the mystery of it all. But the plot is fun too, as we've come to expect from Osman. I was surprised by the twists, and I was left with enough questions that I can't wait for the next installment!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read an advanced copy.

I am in the minority here but while I love, love, love The Thursday Murder Club series, I had a tough time getting into this book. I'm not sure why because there is his trademark humor, quirky characters and a mystery, It just didn't grab me like I thought it would. I may give it another try in the future.

A new series! Steve Wheeler, Amy, and Rosie are the three main characters in this book. A retired cop, his daughter in law who is also a bodyguard to the rich and famous, and a popular author! When Amy is set up as a patsy in a murder investigation, Steve knows he must get back into it to save her. I really enjoyed the pace of this book and of course the humor. The characters, as expected from Osman, are really well developed. A great read anyone will enjoy but his fans will devour this one!

At first, I thought I wouldn't like this book as much as the Thursday Murder Club series (especially the opening) but once it got going, there was plenty of action and quirky characters that I grew to like. I especially like Steven, the father-in-law. The elements are all very similar to The Thursday Murder Club but this story is more of an action story than a quieter murder mystery. I'd still say it's a mystery because we are trying to figure out the identity of the mole and Loubet. Overall, while I still prefer The Thursday Murder Club, I would make room on my bookshelf for this series too.

The fact that this book felt a little formulaic; a little too much like the Thursday Murder Club series by this same author it did not lessen my enjoyment of this new franchise. The main characters are very well developed, and very likable and the plot is tight and well written. Amy works for a company that provides security protection to wealthy clients, and when the book opens she is sitting pool side in the Carolinas with a famous author who is being threatened by an assassin. Meanwhile she is also making sure that her recently widowed Father-in-Law is staying active in his tiny English village. A series of murders set off a wild chase across the globe and lead to attempts on Amy's life. With her Father-in-Law (a retired police detective), the famous author and her Boss in tow the three try to stay one step ahead of the killer while trying to solve the murders. A twisty page turner, this is a fun read.

We Solve Murders is such a fun, quick, and entertaining read, as is the norm for Richard Osman books. I've never read a book of his that I didn't enjoy. This is a new story but it's similar in tone to The Thursday Night Murder club. The characters are just as charming and the twists and turns just as exciting. I will absolutely be recommending this book!

Security expert Amy, recruits her father-in-law to help her solve the mystery of who is trying to kill her. A cast of quirky characters and a solid whodunnit plot keeps the reader engaged.

Once again Mr Osman weaves a take with murder, killers, and smart seniors!
New relatable characters are the cornerstone to a story which finds Amy’s latest bodyguard mission turned upside down as she must now be on the run to find out who is trying to kill her. Her boss has gone missing and is presumed dead, so she wrangles her father in law and the famous writer she was tasked to safeguard, Rosie D’Antonio, to help her flee and solve the mystery. There were many laugh out loud scenes as they travel all over the world as the clues are deciphered. This was thoroughly delicious!

In this debut of Osman’s new mystery series, Amy Wheeler is working as a close-security specialist for renowned mystery writer Rosie D’Antonio. Amy’s father-in-law, Steve—a retired cop and widower—leads a quiet life filled with pub lunches, quiz nights on Wednesdays, and dozing off with his cat, Trouble. But when several clients from Amy’s firm are murdered in spectacularly public ways, she begins to suspect that she can’t trust anyone at work. Desperate for help, she turns to Steve, the one person she knows she can rely on.

Osman skillfully juggles multiple plotlines, using short chapters that alternate between characters' viewpoints while fairly distributing clues to the reader. The real charm of an Osman book, however, lies in his rapid-fire comedic dialogue, packed with laugh-out-loud moments. What sets his stories apart is his ability to create characters with rich backstories and deep inner lives. We come to understand their motivations, care about them, and wish we could spend time with them—at least when the bullets aren’t flying. If you enjoyed The Thursday Murder Club, you’ll definitely want to pick up We Solve Murders.

Take one very cagey criminal mastermind known to the world as Francois Loubet who makes his living by money laundering. Add in Amy Wheeler, adrenaline junkie and private security consultant to mega-bestselling author Rosie D’Antonio on a private island when a former SEAL tried to kill her just after she learned that a third influencer had been killed near her. She figured she was being framed, but not how or by who. So she and Rosie went on the run while calling for help. The help she could trust is her father-in-law, Steve Wheeler, a retired cop living in the New Forest. The trio made circuit of the West Indies and Ireland, visiting the other murder sites along the way. They meet plenty of crazy and zany folks before finally settling back in England to figure out everything. An interesting beginning for a new series from Richard Osman. A fun quick read!

Thanks Netgalley and Penguin Group Viking for the opportunity to read this title!

This is a romp of a mystery full of humor and heart. I adored the ensemble cast and, most of all, the father-in-law/daughter relationship. Fans of Osman's Thursday Murder Club series will have a blast.

That devilishly funny author is back! This time with a whole new cast of characters. Took me a bit to get acquainted with them, especially since there are so many. For a bit I couldn't figure out who was going to survive and solve and who was going to die and who was pretending to be whom. I would probably do better with a paper copy (buy a hardcover!) so I could flip pages back and forth. I plan to read "We Solve Murders" again and savor the humor and situations.

This book was engaging, but I thought the beginning was a little slow. Otherwise, it was a great start to a new series. I can't wait for the next book in this series. I suggest this book for anyone who wants a meaningful mystery.

Another excellent novel from Richard Osman.

Private security guard Amy Wheeler is on what's meant to be an easy assignment, guarding world-famous author Rosie D’Antonio on a private island after Rosie has received several death threats. Even on the job, she makes time to stay in touch with her father-in-law Steve Wheeler, a retired police officer enjoying his quiet life with his cat and his weekly pub quizzes. But this routine existence and Amy's easy assignment soon both get more complicated than they expected, when a dead body and a bag of money turn up, with all the evidence pointing at Amy. A race around the globe begins as Amy and Steve, with Rosie in tow, try to stay one step ahead of the killer and clear Amy's name.

I absolutely loved this book. It was extremely funny in a dry humor/deadpan sort of way, and all the characters were quirky and instantly loveable. There were kind of a lot of characters to keep track of, but the writing is pretty straightforward with short chapters and easy prose that makes it a quick read. The mystery itself was a little complicated with lots of different threads, but I felt like it was explained well and pulled together very cleverly at the end. While I saw a few of the twists coming, others caught me totally off guard. I loved all the characters introduced here and I'm looking forward to hopefully seeing them return in future installments.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Oh thank the Good Lord for a new title/series from Richard Osman! It's funny and the characters are SUCH characters and so endearing; just as we've come to expect from Osman.
Amy Wheeler works in private security and she's currently on an island in South Carolina keeping bestselling author, Rosie D'Antonio alive. Her father-in-law, Steve Wheeler, is a retired police officer, who runs his own PI firm in his small English town.
But a dead body, a bag of money and a killer with Amy in their sights has her calling Steve in for help. Will they be able to solve this mystery before Amy is put out of commission for good? This is the start of a fun new series!

HUGE thank you to Viking Books for allowing me to read one of my most anticipated books of the year early!

I've read and enjoyed all of Osman's books and this wasn't an exception!

For the first time, Osman deviated from his THURSDAY MURDER CLUB characters and created an entirely new series which is equally exciting and also makes me feel like I'm cheating on the other characters. I kid, I kid.

A lot of the things I love about Osman shone through in WE SOLVE MURDERS. His signature humor was there, his unique and lovable characters were there, and his over-the-top zany plot was there too!

While I overall enjoyed it, the reason for 4 stars instead of 5 was the lack of heartwarming and deeper moments that some of his other books have had. Take that with a grain of salt as it may be an unfair comparison seeing as this is an entirely new project, but I just wanted a little more CONNECTION to the characters. While they were funny and clever, I didn't feel that connection to them that I would have loved to feel.

I am still over the moon excited about this new series and cannot wait for book 2!

This will be out on September 17th!
